Marlene put her phone away and walked over to Dorcas, Dorcas waved and slightly smiled at her which caught her off guard.
“Hi” Dorcas said when Marlene finally reached the table and sat down.
“Hey” she said back, and thought to herself why is she being nice, maybe she's in a good mood, she just ignored the thought because that would be ridiculous, she is never in a good mood especially when it came to Marlene.
They had been working quietly for about an hour, both of their minds buzzing with things that had nothing to do with the project. They had been so quiet the librarian was caught off guard similarly to how Marlene was before when Dorcas smiled at her. The quietness was broken by Dorcas.
“There is something we need to talk about, or i guess something i need to tell you” Dorcas said still looking at her book, only glancing up at Marlene once and when she did, Marlene saw that she was nervous which made her nervous and so she did what she does whenever she gets nervous, she puts up her defense walls.
“Oh great, should the whole world just stop because you have something to say Meadows” Marlene said with a sarcastic tone, spoiler Dorcas thought she was mocking her, while rolling her eyes.
“God i’m such an idiot, maybe attempt number 3 will work” Dorcas said under her breath but when she looked up at Marlene and saw the look of shock and realization on her face she knew she said it loud enough for her to hear.
“I-” Marlene tried to say something but Dorcas wouldn’t let her finish.
“I have to go, bye” She said as she rushed to pack up her things, Marlene just sat there frozen watching her pack up and walk out the library doors. It took about a minute for Marlene’s brain to actually start working again and when it did, she took out her phone.
