Chapter 8
Dear nonexistent diary,
Her name is Barriss, and she's really cute when she blushes.
To clarify: she was blushing because she also forgot to ask what my name is. Not that she would have any other reason to be blushing. Just, figured I should put that out there. Blushing was happening because we completely forgot to introduce ourselves like people normally do when they meet each other for the first time. Or, not for the first time, but the first time when we didn’t have bigger things to worry about such as one party being stabbed and bleeding out. But we’ve introduced ourselves now, so it’s fine! Everything's fine. Really.
Really.
Anyway, so we had another conversation and it was definitely not less awkward than the last one because the last conversation wasn't awkward, we just forgot to ask each others’ names, which wasn't awkward, it was just a bit embarrassing when we realized and had to do that in the second conversation instead. In my defense, I haven't talked to anyone in, like, a week. And I don't really meet new people, ever. And I've just been referring to her as my pretty cellmate since she showed up. So I have an excuse. And she's been busy with almost dying and stuff, so she does too.
I should ask the vampire's name at some point, I guess. We'll save that for step two of plan: Awesome Prison Break! So, after I get Barriss on board.
That's a pretty name.
Anyway, I have a step 1A and a step 1B, but I don't know what order to put them in. I need to befriend Barriss, and I need to bring her in on the escape plan. But do I befriend her before trying to convince her to join me in a potentially dangerous prison break, or do I use prison break planning as bonding time?
To become friends, obviously.
She's sleeping again right now, so I can't do either yet. And I'm not watching her sleep in a creepy way or anything. She was dying not long ago, I'm just keeping an eye on her. Like a good cellmate-friend. We can't do an awesome escape together if she dies.
She's cute when she's asleep, when it's not because she's dying. Like, objectively, of course. In a friend way. A totally platonic, cellmate-friend way. That has nothing to do with me wanting to kiss her, because I don't. We're just cellmates, and we're going to be cellmate-friends, until we escape, and then we'll just be normal friends!
Maybe I should use this time while Barriss is asleep to start making escape plans, so we already have something to work with when we get to the escape planning phase of our relationship. Friendship. Because the only other option is sleep, and sleep is for boring people. Or cute girls recovering from serious injuries. Or hibernating vampires that I don't want to piss off.
Anyway. Escape plans. Yeah. I should get on those.
