Chapter 9
Dear nonexistent diary,
So… that guy came back. You know, the creepy one who fed that other guy to the vampire dude way back whenever. And he brought another guy with him. And guess what? He fed that guy to the vampire dude too! I know, shocking. Creepy dude continues to do creepy things. We're all shocked.
Anyway, I don't feel the need to describe that whole process again. He dragged random dude #2 (or is it #3? No, it's creepy guy the one and only) down here, threw him in the cell with the vampire dude, the vampire dude ate him, etc. etc. Not important. All of that is the same as what happened last time.
What's not the same as last time is that Barriss was here with me.
So, I didn’t expect much at first. Honestly, I kind of forgot that Barriss wasn’t there the first time for a moment, because I told her “hey, it’s that creepy guy again” and she had no idea what I was talking about. And then I was going to tell her the whole story, but the creepy guy got too close and I decided to wait until after to catch Barriss up. I figured we’d wait it out and that would be that.
However, unlike last time, when creepy guy completely ignored my existence (which was very rude of him), this time, he turned to us after the vampire was done doing his thing (which feels like a weird way to say ‘eating someone’ but I don’t really have a better way to describe it besides just saying ‘he ate the guy’ which we all knew already.)
Specifically, he turned to Barriss.
I don’t exactly know what their deal is, but creepy guy and Barriss definitely have some history that I’m pretty sure Barriss seems really nervous about, although she hid it under her usual serine mask. And I’m not certain, but I’m pretty sure that creepy dude is the reason she ended up down here in the awful windowless basement cells. Which, at the very least, hopefully means I don’t have to worry about her being a serial killer or anything! She didn’t seem like a serial killer, but you never know. But I’m pretty sure she just had history with this guy, and this guy had enough sway (or I guess fed enough people to our vampire neighbor) to get her shut down here, and she’s actually the nice person she seems to be!
Anyway, all this is great and all for me, but Barriss got pretty freaked out after the guy left, and I don’t think it had anything to do with the vampire and the dead body the creepy dude was dragging up after him. Especially when she asked me really insistently how I knew the creepy guy and how often he comes down here. (The answer is not a lot, as far as I know, since I’ve only seen him once, which seemed to calm Barriss down. But I guess I really don’t know, since I haven’t been down here for too long.)
So… yeah, that’s a thing. I’m sure it’s none of my business, but like… I’m curious. And we’re cellmates! Sharing stuff is, like… okay, probably in general not the best idea, considering we both ended up in prison for one reason or another, but if we’re going to be cellmate-friends we’re going to have to know something about each other.
We should probably start small, though, not with whatever baggage is there.
Guess I’m asking her what her favorite color is.
