Charlie Weasley

1. He almost was a Hufflepuff.
During his sorting, it took the hat close to three minutes to decide. Any at five minutes or more is a hat stall. The hat was debating what Charlie valued more: his loyalty and compassion or his daring nature and courage. In the end it was Charlie asking to be with his brother that put him in Gryffindor.

2. The only reason he tried out for the quidditch team in second year was because Tonks talked him into it.
Charlie had always loved flying and watching quidditch, but he had never actually played the game. So when quidditch trials started in his second year he didn’t want to try because he thought he’d make a fool of himself. Tonks was adamant that he would do great, he knew how the game worked and he was a great flyer. She also pointed out that even if he didn’t make the team, the trails could teach him some new tricks.

3. Tonks is also the reason he didn’t go on to play quidditch professionally.
Once he started playing quidditch he loved it and he was a great seeker. His captain and Professor McGonagall both thought he should think about a professional career. And he did from the time of his fifth year career advice to the Easter holidays of his sixth year that is what he thought he would do at least until he got too old to do so. It was during this time that Tonks had mentioned that she was shocked he was planning on doing something with dragons. He never hid his love of the creatures and there were more than a few career options that involved dragons. At the time he had never even dreamed of working with them. The main reason being that his mom thought love of the creatures childish and wanted him to have a “real job”, but he was already considering a career in quidditch which his mother equally disapproved of. So he decided if he was going to choose a career his mother hated, he might as well choose the one he was more passionate about.

4. He chose the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary.
To become a dragonologist you have to study with the department for the regulation and control of magical creatures. Through them the dragon sanctuaries would get your information and determine whether or not to accept you. Charlie got accepted into the dragon sanctuaries for England, Wales, France, and Romania. He knew he didn’t want to stay in England nor did he want to go to Wales. He was really choosing between France and Romania. He ended up choosing Romania because it was the furthest away and also the largest. He had hoped that by choosing the one that was further away, on top of Bill living in Egypt, that his mom would chill on her expectations of marriage, but she didn’t.

5. He always thought that Percy would be the one to snap and go off on their parents; he was right.
Percy had always been the quiet and responsible one; always doing what was asked and expected of him. And because of this he was always under a lot of pressure to succeed. In addition to the pressure to succeed, he was constantly put on a pedestal for his younger siblings and told that he was the perfect role model and that they should be just like him. Because of this Charlie always figured he would end up cracking under the pressure and just start yelling. So when it actually happened he wasn’t surprised.

6. He loves all of his siblings but as he got older he really didn’t like Ron.
When he was younger he spent a lot of time with each of his siblings, but Ron always loved spending time with Charlie learning about dragons. Later he thinks it was less about the dragons or spending time with Charlie and more about getting some attention. During Ron’s fourth and the Triwizard tournament, he was mad that Ron would believe that his friend would lie to him and that he would just abandon his friend like that. He thought his brother had a stronger sense of loyalty than that. There were several more instances, where Ron’s actions made him not really like his brother.

7. There’s a reason why he never got married.
His mom made it very clear to them growing up, she expected each of her kids to get married and give her grandbabies. Charlie is the only one that neither got married or had kids. But the thing is at one point in his life he had thought he would actually marry some witch, have a couple of kids, but as Charlie got older he hated the idea more and more. It took him quite a while to figure out that he just didn’t like the idea of romance or sex. And it took him even longer to find out that was totally normal.
