A not so good first day

Camila didn't come from the best family, her dad had left her and her mother on their own after he had an accident, and her mother had struggled to take care of her; so she took an important decision, she joined a convent so her mother wouldn't have to worry about her as much as she did anymore, eventually, she was offered a spot in a group called the Order of the Cruciform Sword, and she accepted, not really knowing what it was or how it was, she just wanted to make sure her mother wouldn't worry about her anymore.

She was told to arrive at Cat's Cradle at night, which was weird, but Camila didn't question it, she just did it; it was a cold night, she had a coat on and was trying her best to stay calm. She wasn't a worried person, but this whole thing made her worry, she was told that the OCS were an important group and she had to be worthy to be in it, which was something new to Camila, so it wasn't that weird that she was nervous about meeting them. She stood in front of the door and stared at it for a few moments, not sure if she had to knock or just open it, a few seconds went by before she knocked three times, she waited patiently for someone to open the door, but no one did; she wasn't sure of what to do, she stood there a few more seconds before she slowly opened the door and went inside, she closed the door gently and when she turned around, she bumped into someone. She looked up quickly to apologize.

"I'm so sorry! I- I knocked and no one opened so I- I'm so sorry for entering without permission", she quickly explained, Camila kept staring at the woman in front of her, it was a tall woman, with black hair and eyes and tanned skin, the taller woman just stares back at her, looking up and down before nodding slightly and beginning to walk away. "I apologize for that, I was busy doing some things, please follow me", the tall woman answered, Camila nodded her head and began walking behind her, with only one thought in her mind, "British accent, British accent", she walked looking around amazed by everything; they kept walking some more moments before they reached an office, the taller woman opened the door gently and moved aside, gesturing Camila to enter, once they were both inside, the tanned skin woman spoke, "Mother, the new recruit is here", said the British woman, Camila stared at the other two woman.

Behind a desk was a much older woman with a big scar on her face that went from her forehead to her cheek on the right side of her face, with a serious look on her face, next to her was a tall woman, not as tall as the woman she saw first, but still, she was tall and had dark hair held in a bun, as soon as she saw the new girl entering the room she immediately offered a gentle smile. The older woman approached the young girl and looked up and down, just like the other woman had done previously, Camila didn't know what do besides smiling awkwardly, a few silent seconds went by before the older woman nodded and looked back at the girl who was by her side just a few moments ago, "Beatrice, please walk her to her room", she ordered, Camila had expected more, but she didn't say anything, simply looking at the woman who now knew was Beatrice.

Beatrice nodded before walking to the door and motioning Camila to follow her, they got into the hall and started walking to one of the available rooms, the walk was a silent for a few moments before Beatrice decided to speak, "I see you've met Lilith", Camila was a little confused at the name, before she realized who she was talking about, "The tall woman?", she questioned, the other woman just nodded her head and chuckled a bit, "I know she seemed a bit rude, but she is nice once you get to know her", Camila shook her head and looked at the taller woman, "She seemed nice to me", she said gently, Beatrice chuckled a bit and nodded, they reached the room and the taller woman opened the door slowly, "You can put your things down and I'll bring you your habit and some extra sheets, wait here", Beatrice said as she left the room to search for those things, Camila sat on the bed and looked through the window, seeing the stars and the moon, she doesn't know how long she stayed like that, but it was long enough for Beatrice to come back, holding said things on her arms, she smiled as soon as she saw the younger girl looking intensely at the sky, dropped the things on the bed and stood next to her, "It sure is a pretty night", she said, looking at the younger girl, who just smiled softly, they stayed like that for a few more seconds, just until the older woman remembered dinner.

"Right, you should change to go eat dinner, I'll be waiting outside, the halls can sometimes be a little confused, just, don't take too long", the older woman said leaving the room and closing the door gently, Camila snapped out of her trance and change into her new habit, she looked at herself in the mirror on one of the corners, the color was pretty, she thought about putting on the piece that was meant for the head, but seeing how Beatrice nor Lilith had it on, she decided to leave it inside; she left the room, once again seeing Beatrice, they both walked to the dining room talking a little bit and smiling. Beatrice realized there was something she had to do first, so she left Camila there to get food and eat with everyone else, but the younger woman didn't know anyone, and as soon as she had her plate, she realized she would eat alone. She noticed a spot on the corner of the table and she quickly sat down there, feeling everyone's eyes on her.

Here's the thing, it wasn't really common to have new recruits, Camila had been the first one to join in at least two months, and the OCS wasn't that different from a school, almost everyone stays away from the new kid, in this case, the rookie. She started to eat her food, feeling the anxiety slowly appearing once more, it stayed until Beatrice came back and sat next to her, offering a gentle smile, "Sorry for that, Shannon accidentally used a Divinium blade and got hurt, I had to clean it and then patch up her hand, I still don't know how she managed to get hurt on accident, the Divinium glows when the Halo is close to it", she explained, forgetting that Camila had no idea of what Divinium is, or what is the Halo, or who is Shannon. The older woman stared at her before chuckling at her mistake, "I'm sorry, we'll explain everything to you tomorrow, right now is a bit late and everyone is tired", Camila nodded, still eating her food, Beatrice also started eating, both woman completely quiet until the younger girl spoke, "Who's Shannon?", she questioned, looking around the room, trying to identify her, suddenly, a voice came from behind them, both woman quickly looked back, Beatrice smiling as soon as she saw the woman. It was a tall girl, with brown hair and a big smile on her face, as well as some paper on one of her hands, which was slightly red, it was obvious it was blood; next to her was a slightly shorter woman with dark skin, her hair in small braids and an annoyed smile, "Shannon, Mary, this is Camila, she's new", explained Beatrice as Mary and Shannon sat next to them, Mary didn't look impressed, she simply stared at Camila for a few moments, "Great, a rookie", she said beginning to eat, Shannon didn't waste a second before hitting her elbow with elbow, "Don't listen to her Camila, it's nice having you here, we're happy you decided to join, aren't we, Mary?", she asked, forcing the dark skinned woman to nod, her mouth full with food. "Thanks", Camila answered shyly.

After they were all done with their dinner, everyone left to go to their own rooms, Beatrice's and Camila's room were almost next to each other, so they walked together, "Goodnight", said Beatrice before closing the door of her room, Camila simply waved with her hand, she closed the door and sat on the bed, sighing loudly, she once again looked though the window, losing herself on the stars once more. She changed into her pajamas and laid down on the bed, she closed her eyes and fell asleep for a few minutes, until she heard a knock on her door; she got up and sleepy opened the door, finding Lilith on the other side, she was panting and sweating a little bit, "Did I- wake you up?", the taller woman asked, with a slightly nervousness on her voice, the younger girl nodded her head, trying to rub the tiredness of her face by rubbing her eyes with her hands, "Don't worry, it's fine, everything okay?", she asked, her voice tired; Lilith stared at her for a few seconds before nodding her head, "Just, uh, I didn't introduce myself, I'm Lilith", she said, just a hint of blush on her cheeks, the younger girl smiled at her and took her hand, shaking it, they stayed silent for a few seconds, until Camila yawned, "Right, I just wanted to apologize in case I seemed rude, or, something of the sort, that's all", she said, even more nervousness on her voice than before, the shorter girl chuckled and shook her head, 'Don't worry, it's okay", she answered.

They stared at each other for a few more seconds, Camila's eyes slowly closing on their own, Lilith apologized once more and left, going straight to her room, Camila just stood there for a few more seconds before closing the door and getting in bed, seeing the moonlight entering her room through her window. Maybe it wasn't a bad first day.
