Chapter 3

It was around noon when Steve and Bucky came to check on Peter. When they interred Tony immediately woke up, he was angry that Bucky had come as he still felt he was responsible for Peter getting hurt.

“What is he doing here?” Tony spat in a hushed manner at Steve while staring daggers at Bucky.

“We wanted to check on him to make sure he was okay.” He answered.

“This is his fault, his only priority was to protect him. So tell me Rodgers why the hell would I want him here?!” Tony nearly yelled at him near inches from his face.

Steve was trying to remain calm knowing that Tony was just worried he wasn’t really angry but he still couldn’t stand him talking about Bucky like that. But before Steve could respond all the noise had woken Peter.

“Hey, guys.” Peter said groggily from the pain meds.

Tony’s demeanor instantly changed from angry and defensive to calm and concerned. As he walked back over to Peters’s side.

“Hey kid, how are you feeling?” Tony asked

“Better, ready to get out of here.” He replied.

“You took quite back there probably for the best you’re here till banner clears you. “ Steve said in response.

“ Glad you’re doing okay kid.” Bucky said before promptly leaving Steve following shortly behind leaving Tony and Peter alone.

“So Peter I know you probably don’t want to talk about this right now, but I need to know why you didn’t come to me or someone instead of this” Tony said motioning to his bandaged legs and arms.

Peter’s heart began to race at the question, he couldn’t escape it or run. He was trapped to answer Tony’s questions.

“I-I just needed to feel something, and I didn’t want to bother anyone.” Peter said barely above a whisper.

“You think he really cares, ha he is just pretending they all do. They don’t care why can’t you get that.” The voice hissed in his head

Tony’s heart dropped at his answer. “Did he really think him needing help would bother me?” he thought to himself.

“Kid, you wouldn’t have bothered anyone, we want to be here for you. We- I don’t want to see you hurt yourself again okay? Next time you feel like it, talk to me or someone, talk to Happy for all I care just talk to someone.” Tony said, almost pleading with him.

Peter was almost in tears again. He didn't want to make anyone worry about him, he never even wanted anyone to know.

As the thoughts kept coming the closer Peter came to spirling.

Is this what you wanted? For Mr. Stark to see you like this? Can’t you pull yourself together, it's pathetic really.” The voice mocked and taunted.

“ I’m sorry Mr. Stark, I didn't mean to make you worry, I'm okay really.” He said hoping to convince his mentor of something he couldn't even convince himself of.

“No you're not and that's okay we are going to get you help.”Tony replied frankly.

You think he’s gonna put you in a nuthouse? I mean only crazy people cut themselves up.” The voice continued to taunt.

Peter was nearly in another panic attack but he was trying to not have another breakdown in front of Mr. Stark.

“No I don't need your ‘help’ I just need to get out of here and I'll be fine.” Peter said defensively.

“I'm not your enemy, ok kid, I just want to help which you clearly need. You might not think so now but you do.” Tony replied in an authoritative manner.

“You don't get to decide when or when I need help! I've been doing this since I was 12. I think I can handle my own problems like I always have.” Peter screamed at him, catching him slightly off guard.

“You know you aren't being reasonable and I get it I do but first you don't get to act like cutting yourself up is ‘handling’ anything okay and  second you need to realize I'm here to help you not do anything that would hurt you.” Tony replied sharply.

Good job now you could really say goodbye to any care he might have had. You really are good at screwing things up. It would be so much simpler for everyone if you weren't here.” The voice continued.

Peter was on the verge of losing his cool, his heart was racing, hot tears were running down his face and he just wanted to tear into his skin and get all the anger out on himself.

“Get out please.” He said flatly.

“What?” Tony asked.

“I said GET OUT.” Peter shouted.

“Fine if that's what you want I’ll send Banner in here to check on you.” Tony said before leaving feeling completely defeated.

As Tony entered the hallway he saw Banner and stopped him.

“Hey, Tony how's Peter doing?” Banner asked.

“Well, he just screamed at me to get out so that's what I’m doing. Will you keep an eye and let me know when he calms down some please?” Tony replied.

“Yeah, why did he want you to leave?” Banner questioned.

“I wanted to get him help for the thing, and he just kinda snapped but I think he's just overwhelmed.” He replied in a monotone voice.

“Okay I’ll keep an eye on him, why don't you go get some rest?” Banner suggested.

“Thanks Banner.” Tony said before walking towards medbay's doors.

Meanwhile, Peter was having a breakdown crying and hitting his arms against the bed reopening the cuts and tearing his stitches from the explosion.

“I told you he doesn't really care or he wouldn't have left you here. Alone, hurt and now bleeding.”  The voice wouldn't stop and it was making Peter go crazy.

“Just SHUT UP!” Peter yelled before laying back down and crying into the pillow hoping to fall asleep so the voice would just leave him alone for a little while.
