Elle

Elle was angry, not angry at Sam of course, but at the donor who played with kids' futures as if they were toys. Elle and Emmett had a pretty good plan of attack for how to get Sam a job that would pay for tuition, room, and board. Of course, they had both agreed that if everything else failed, they would use some of Elle’s mostly untouched trust fund to set up an anonymous scholarship to award to Sam. But because they both knew that Sam would feel guilty if he ever found out about that, even if in their opinion that he greatly deserved it, that was a last resort.

Elle was using her fury to create an amazing case against a rich abusive husband. The wife, Jen, had come in to discuss her case and she had had to bring her daughter. Because of the sensitive topics that Elle and Jen were going to discuss in this session, Elle had asked Sam to distract the daughter, Cass, who was only a freshman in high school.

Elle and her client were closing the talk when they heard her daughter laugh very loudly and heartily. Elle could hear Sam’s voice reading something dramatically. As the two women quietly stepped out of the room they saw Sam reading dramatically from a script as Cass laughed at him.

It was clear that Cass was laughing at him, not because Sam was bad, but because Sam was delivering the comedic lines of Teddy Brewster with such vigor and in a weird voice that they were twice as funny. Elle could tell that Sam was having fun and that he was actually making an effort to make Cass laugh. It brought a smile to both Gen and Elle’s faces.

“Oh hey, we were just running through some lines.” Sam noticed the two women first and turned to Elle and asked, “Did you know that Cass is trying out for Arsenic and Old Lace?

Elle’s smile grew wider, “No, I didn’t. But I love that play whenever Emmet and I see it we argue about how we would build a case against the clearly insane Brewster sisters.”

Gen, despite being emotionally tired from the discussion, smiled at Cass and Sam, “I’m so glad you had a good time.”

Cass was going to reply when there was a small cough from the door that was slightly open. Sam, noticing that someone other than Elle, Gen, and Cass had heard him, blushed violently. However, Elle recognized the woman.

“Pilar! So good to see you!” Elle exclaimed then turned to Gen, “I’m going to make a strong case for you don’t worry. I'll let you know if anything changes or if I need anything. But for now, Sam can escort you out.”

Gen wrung Elle’s hand in thanks and joined Sam and Cass on the way out.

Pilar eyed Sam for a second before she hugged Elle in greeting, “How are you doing Elle! It’s been so long since our last Delta Nu reunion!”

Elle returned the hug, “I know! I missed you guys so much. How’s your latest project going?”

Pilar laughed, “It’s going great. But we are still casting at the moment. I have to ask, who was that young guy? Did you hire a bodyguard?”

Elle cackled, “No, no, that Sam, he’s my pre-law intern. He probably could be my bodyguard if I asked.”

Pilar tapped her finger on her lip in thought, “He was really good at reading those lines. Do you think he’d be willing to audition for a role on my new show? It could be some pretty good money if he got the role.”

“How much money?” Sam had re-entered the room and had clearly caught the tail end of their conversation.

Pilar went to stand at Sam’s side, “It would be a good amount, especially if it got renewed for more seasons just imagine, you could be on,” here she paused for effect while spreading her hands out as if imaging the words in shining lights, “Gilmore Girls.”

Sam shrugged, Elle could tell that he was definitely desperate enough to give it a shot. Sam got the information about the audition from Pilar. Elle was very interested to see where would go. She was pleasantly surprised when she got the news from both Sam and Pilar that Sam had gotten the part of Dean Forester and that the money from the show would be enough to put Sam through the next semester of college and if it was renewed could help him finish his degree. Sam also chose to use the stage name of Jared Padalecki.

Elle, Matt, and Emmett had weekend watch parties where they would drive to Hell’s Kitchen and describe it to Matt. On the conference calls and whenever everyone met up together there were always a few jabs about Sam’s role on Gilmore Girls. Another surprise to everyone was that during one summer where Sam was taking a break from classes and had visited everyone on the East Coast and had told them that he had accepted a role in a horror film that starred Paris Hilton, called House of Wax.

While Elle, Matt, and Emmett poked fun at this, Elle could tell that Sam was very thankful for the money that was coming from the acting jobs. Sam had also confided in the trio that he didn’t mind any of the acting and he wasn’t really embarrassed about it. But Sam also said that would die before he ever told Dean that he paid for college by playing a character named Dean or that he kept in friendly contact with Paris Hilton.
