The start
[Adora sits outside Madame Razz's home, on a picnic blanket with tea and cookies in front of her. On the other side, Mara's ghost sits in front of her with her own spirit foods. Razz is inside, preparing to make a pie with Mara soon.]
Adora: I've been having these nightmares lately but it's all about Catra and how she was my entire life and I'm so scared and confused because we're in love. At least, that's what she tells me but I don't think that love is supposed to hurt like this.
Mara: I see. Have you talked to her about the nightmares and how she makes you feel?
Adora: Yeah, she gets upset and says I need to stop bringing up her past and ignores me until I say that I'm sorry and won't bring it up.
Mara: I think that it's time to leave this relationship in the past. From our past sessions and what I've seen from her, she is currently gaslighting you and continuing the abuse she inflicted on you throughout your entire life.
Adora: I can't! She'll be so mad and upset, she's been in love with me her whole life, I can't break her heart! I don't want to hurt her.
Mara: But she's hurting you. She shows no regard for your emotions and will only listen when you say what she wants to hear. How do you feel about your relationship with Catra? Do you love her?
Adora: I... I hate the relationship, anything bad that happens with us, it's my fault and I'm always the problem. I feel so trapped and hurt and I don't love her. I can't, she's hurt me so much and won't stop and I want to be me and not have to worry about what she wants, what she'll think of any little thing. But I'm scared of what she'll do to me if I leave and stop doing things for her.
Mara: Would Glimmer let you live in Brightmoon when you leave her? Would the Princess Alliance help you get your things and keep you safe? Prepare your escape plan so that you are safe.
Adora: Yeah I can make both things happen and get extra help from others. Glimmer said I'll always have my room in the castle in case anything happened. But how do I leave her? The moment I say those words to her, she'll flip out and scream and yell and maybe even....
Mara: Even what? What are you scared of her doing to you?
[Adora sits in silence, tears rolling down her face]
Mara: Oh. I see. I'll contact your friends to get started on helping you leave. Would you like to take a break and get some water or alone time?
Adora: I would like to take a break and get water but please don't leave me alone, I think I need you around, to help me calm down.
Mara: Of course Adora, I'll stay right by your side and we'll resume when you're ready. *calling out to Razz* Hey Razz, can you get a glass of water for Adora?
Razz: *from within the house* Of course my dearies, Razz will also bring some fruits.
Mara: Thank you Razz.
[Razz comes outside carrying a tray with fresh fruits and a glass of ice cold water. She sets it down in front of Adora and gives her a small hug]
Adora: Thank you, both of you, you've helped me so much.
Mara: Of course Adora, we love you and will always be there for you anytime you need us.
Razz: Adora dear, you have helped us so we will help you. You're our friend and we'll always stick with you.
[Adora pull the both of them into a hug and sits there, letting them comfort her and warm her. After a bit, they release from the hug and Adora drinks some water and eats many of the grapes.]
Adora: Ok, I think I'm ready to resume the session.
[Razz stands up, ready to go back inside]
Razz: Alrighty dearies, I'll leave you two alone, call me if you need anything else. *She kisses both Mara and Adora on their cheeks and goes inside*
Mara: Ok, let's first come up with a way that you can break up with Catra and keep you safe.
Adora: Hm, I don't want to do it in person. How about a call to her when I get to Brightmoon?
Mara: That's good but she might be able to find you if she sees the setting you're in. How about a letter? You can detail her treatment and abuse towards you and tell her you're leaving and she won't be able to track you down with that. You can have one of the princesses drop it off at her place when they go to get your things.
Adora: Yes, I really like that. I'm not sure how I'd say it though.
Mara: That's ok, I'll help you.
Adora: Ok, let's write this down.
[As Adora says what she feels and what has happened over the relationship with Catra and their entire lives together, Mara records her talking to help out with the letter. When Adora is done talking, she listens back to what she said and writes out everything she wants to get out. Overall, the letter is quite long and ends with Adora leaving Catra. Mara reads it over and is very moved by her words and is proud of Adora.]
Mara: Wow Adora, this is a lot.
Adora: Oh is it too much? I'm sorry, I can take some stuff out.
Mara: No, it's not too much. I'm really proud of you for writing this. Don't change anything, it's exactly how it needs to be. These are your feelings, don't change it.
Adora: Thank you, I've always liked writing and I wanted to fully capture what I needed to say.
Mara: Perhaps you should write more often, about anything and everything. But for now, let's focus on calling Bow and Glimmer to tell them what's going on so that you can make your escape and start healing from Catra and start living for yourself.
Adora: Alright, let's do this. It's time for me to be free. I'm ready.
