High School AU
YUKI'S POV:
Beep. Beep. Beep!
I was awoken by the irritable sound of my alarm clock.
I instantly hit snooze. Just five more minutes, I murmur.
"Yukiteru, you're gonna be late for school!" I hear my Mom call from downstairs.
I spring up and check the time. I have less than thirty minutes till school starts. Crap! I haven't even taken a shower yet.
I quickly brush my teeth and throw on some clothes. I rush downstairs and grabbed some breakfast.
"Your friend is outside waiting for you!"
I almost forgot about her, hopefully she hasn't been waiting too long.
After scarfing down my breakfast, I meet up with Yuno.
"Good morning, Yuki!" she greeted.
My heart raced. "M-morning"
We make our way down the street
Yuno, oh Yuno. We met during freshman year, although the way we met was kind of embarrassing. It was totally worth it though.
FLASHBACK:
I was on my way to class, when I suddenly bumped into Luka Megurine. Luka is one of the most popular girls in our school. Yet she's also one of the cruelest too.
"Ugh, watch where you're going loser"
"OMG! Look at his shoes, sooo tacky!" sneered Kotone Shiomi, her best friend.
"Please just let me get to class..." I pleaded.
"What a dork!" snickered Luka.
"Such a lameo!" added Kotone.
I was on the verge of tears.
"That's enough!" chimed in an unknown voice.
"Um who are you supposed to be?!"
"Yuno Gasai, I just transferred here a few days ago" she chirped.
"Step aside, we're in the middle of something"
I expected her to obey, but to my surprise she came over to me and helped me up.
"You okay?" she asked with great concern.
"It's fine, they do this kind of thing all the time"
Yuno's attitude visibly soured.
"Haha! You freaks deserve each other" cackled Kotone.
Yuno got a evil look in her eyes.
She went over and shoved Kotone into a locker.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
"How can you be so cruel..." Yuno said darkly.
"That's it, the dweeb gets it!" Luka said, gripping my arm.
Yuno reached into her backpack and pulled out a pocket knife, pointing it at Luka.
Luka lost her grip.
"W-what do you think you're doing..." uttered Luka, taken aback.
"Listen here, you don't want to mess with me. Now I suggest you leave him alone or I'll deal with you the hard way"
"Pfft, you threatening me?! Puh-lease"
Luka stepped forward.
The knife inched closer to Luka's face.
"We're not having problems over here, are we?"
Yuno and Luka stopped dead in their tracks.
It was Sarvente, another popular girl in school. But unlike the other two, she was nice. Sarvente is well liked among the other students, in fact I don't think there's a single soul who hates her! She's always preaching the will of God and trying to lead others to the light. Now if only she could try the same thing on Luka and Kotone...
"This whore is trying to threaten Luka!" screeched Kotone, pointing at Yuno.
Yuno dropped her knife onto the floor and covered it with her foot.
"Now that's not true, isn't that right Yuki?" she said, plastering a fake smile on her face.
I couldn't help but agree, otherwise who knows what she could've done to me.
"That's true! Luka and Kotone were messing with us first.." I stammered.
The two aforementioned girls stared at me in disbelief.
"Sigh I knew you two were being dramatic, now you better go to class, I think poor Yuki has been through enough for today"
Luka and Kotone shot me death glares as they walked away.
"This is not over, twerp" Luka mumbled under her breath.
After Sarvente left, Yuno retrieved her knife.
Seconds later the bell rang.
"See you around!" said Yuno.
"Cya..." I said in amazement, watching her disappear into the hallway.
I couldn't believe it, I just met this girl and she was more than willing to stab somebody for me. She was perfect.
And we've been best friends ever since. Overtime my admiration evolved into something more. Oh no...
"Yuki, is something on your mind?"
I snapped back to reality.
"Aha, no nothing much, nothing at all" I chuckled nervously.
"Well, wanna know what's on my mind"
Let me guess, Rex Dangervest.
"Rex Dangervest!" she gushed
I rolled my eyes.
"You know I was thinking, we should go to school earlier today, I heard Rex was gonna be practicing in the gym today and I really wanted to say hi" she beamed.
Of course she goes for the jock.
"You can do that, I was gonna get some breakfast" I said, trying to sound casual.
"Really? I thought you already had some"
"I erm- want some more...yeah!" I fabricated.
"If that's what you want" she said, slightly disappointed.
I felt bad but the last thing I needed was a reminder that the love of my life was completely smitten by some jock. I knew I never stood a chance.
After we got to school, me and Yuno went our separate ways.
I settled on some stale pancakes and eggs.
I was trying to find somewhere to sit when suddenly I completely lost my balance. Causing me to fall first front into my plate.
"Had a nice trip?" jeered Luka.
The entire cafeteria burst into laughter.
Yeah no doubt Luka was behind that stunt.
I looked around, no Yuno in sight. Here I was bekng ridiculed by the two meanest girls in school and my own best friend hadn't came to my rescue. Which was quite odd, considering she's shown up to all my fiascos. Tears started streaming down my face, not because of Luka, but because of the Rex dilemma. Was he really that important?! Well at least my tears are washing off the syrup stuck to my face.
"Oh my gosh!" squealed Sarvente.
She rushed over with a few paper towels and started wiping my face.
She wasn't the person with pink hair I wanted to see, but hey!
"You poor thing!"
"This isn't the worst thing they've done..." I said quietly.
"Goodness, it's all over your clothes too. Stay here, I'll go get some more" said Sarvente, using the last towel.
However when she came back I wasn't there. I wasn't spending another moment in that cafeteria. I thought it'd be best to hide in my first period until this whole thing blew over. Yet still no Yuno in sight, not even in the hallways. A heap of sadness overwhelmed me but I had to carry on.
"Good Morning, Class" said Mr Cacao.
Class had begun.
"Today we will finally start our eras project, I want you all to split into groups of four, each group will cover a different time period I assign to you"
Just great! Group projects are the worst.
The groups immediately started assembling. Sarvente and Kotone obviously worked together, and to no one's surprise they were very particular about who could join their group.
Surprisingly Sarvente joined them, so she was ruled out.
After most of the groups were formed, I wasn't left with too many options.
There was Popuko, she may look sweet but in actuality she's a total delinquent. Constantly getting into fights and beating up people. Her best friend Pipimi is her polar opposite though. Always studious and never getting in trouble. Sometimes I wonder how those two became acquainted.
Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to ask her since she was already in Popuko's group.
There's also Hajime Shino. He's always lending a helping hand to everyone. He pretty much never says no to anybody, although that makes him quite the pushover. He also works as office aid.
Next is Clover Cookie, he's a total theater kid. Always bursting into song and making references nobody understands. He's quite the jolly fellow though.
Then there's Nikolai Gogol. He's certainly an enigma, speaking in large words and acting eccentric. You can never know with him. Clover has attempted to recruit him for the drama club on multiple occasions, but Nikolai declines every time.
Let's see who else....hmm Juuzou Suzuya? He's the class clown though, not sure he'd be great to work with on a project though. He always manages to make everyone laugh, he's even managed to get a chuckle out of me sometimes, even if I don't get his jokes and funny way of talking.
Mal's ominously sitting in the back. Everyone calls him the quiet kid. I don't have any issues with him, but he does usually have this evil grin on his face and rubs his hands together like he's planning something. As long as he doesn't bother me then i'll return the favor by staying in my own lane.
Now Kuprum Maxlol, he's been dubbed the weird kid and for good reason. He spends all his time on this site called 4chan. He's especially obsessed with the /pol/ board. Okay working with him is definitely not a good idea.
Last but not least is Gwen Poole, she's a total comic nerd. She's pretty girly for someone obsessed with superheroes. She's also the president of our school's comic club. I tried to join but she refused to accept my application since I'm a DC fan. Which is totally not fair since the vice president, Bruce Wayne, is also a DC fan.
I decided to settle on Hajime, then I'd pick the rest from there.
"Hey Hajime, wanna work together?" I ask coyly.
"Of course, I'd love to!"
Phew, crisis averted.
"Now we just need two more members"
"Mind if I join? I soo don't wanna get stuck with Kuprum again...uegh" Gwen shivers.
"The more the merrier" smiled Hajime.
"Allow me to become apart of your ensemble" joined Nikolai.
"You're not gonna work with us?" whined Clover.
"As if! Step aside, we need to work on our project" shooed Nikolai.
"Welp! Looks like we have to work with...gulp...Kuprum" replied Juuzou
"And Mal" added Clover.
Mal gave them the stink eye, luckily that isn't our group's problem!
LUNCHTIME:
I went to go sit at our usual table, yet Yuno was still nowhere to be found. I hadn't sat by myself in forever. I was really starting to loose hope.
Suddenly Pipimi passed my table.
"Hey Pipimi! I was wondering if you've seen Yuno, since you two have science together"
She paused.
"Actually I do, after class ended I saw her leave with Rex"
My heart sank. Was she really gonna abandon me to have lunch with him?!
I looked around, sure enough she was sitting with the jocks. Right next to Rex.
"Is something wrong?"
"It's just I'm not used to sitting by myself"
"Well you could come sit with me and Popuko. She won't bite, or at least I'll make sure she doesn't"
That wasn't the most reassuring statement, but it beats sitting by myself.
Pipimi leads me to her table, Popuko is gobbling on a sandwich.
"Popu-chan, Yukiteru will be sitting with us today"
Popuko looked up, then continued devouring her sandwich.
"Umm okay..."
Popuko burps loudly."Soo, what brings you to my table"
"The person who usually sits with me is...um preoccupied" I said, glaring at the jock table.
"Sounds like a subculture bitch"
"W-what no! Shes nothing like that" I say, defensively.
"Mhmm" Popuko mumbles as she takes a another bite into her sandwich.
I sink my head into my arms.
"Cheer up Yuki, I'm sure she'll come over"
"You don't get it..."
"Get what?"
"..."
"Hm?"
"Pipimi, how do I get a girl like her to like me?"
Popuko jolted up. I guess our newfound conversation peeked her interest.
"Now I see what this is about~" teased Pipimi.
"I don't stand a chance, she's like a love sick puppy!" I griped.
"You say that like it isn't common knowledge" shrugged Popuko.
"Not helping" said Pipimi
Popuko slumped.
"I mean he's a jock, he's gonna win by a landslide"
"Nonsense, you have an advantage"
"Really?"
"You're closer to Yuno, you have an idea of the things she likes, Rex doesn't"
Huh, she did have a point.
"Now, have you tried to show her you're interested?"
I blushed profoundly.
"I take that as a no" said Popuko, smugly.
"You should make the first move before it's too late!" said Pipimi.
Popuko nodded.
"Plus that Rex is a total fuckboy! You better make things quick" said Popuko.
"How quick to be exact?"
"Soon" responded Pipimi.
"How soon?"
"This soon!" said Popuko, pushing me towards the jock table.
I tapped Yuno's shoulder. I looked behind me nervously but Popuko gave me a thumbs up.
"Oh hey Yuki!" Yuno said cheerfully.
"Hey..." I said glumly.
"You seem down"
"Well you did leave me alone at our table"
A guilty smile appeared on her face.
"Just come sit with us, there's plenty of room"
"No thanks"
"Come on dude, she invited you to sit with us and you're still upset?" snarked Rex.
I wanted to wipe that smug grin off his face.
"It's just, you're supposed to be my best friend"
"That doesn't mean I always have to sit with you!"
"But you'd rather sit with these gorillas?!" scoffed Popuko, coming back to the jock table.
"Hey Pipsqueak!" Rex said gibingly.
"It's Popuko"
"Yeah whatever, anyways nice tutu" he said sarcastically.
She gritted her teeth.
"You could use some more protein, how about a sandwich?" Popuko said awfully happy.
"Why not! I saw that mommy packed your lunch"
He started mimicking Popuko's chewing noises.
"Oh actually it's something I made myself, it's called a...KNUCKLE SANDWICH!"
She punched him right in the face.
He dramatically fell out of his seat onto the floor.
"Rex!" cried Yuno.
"Heh, it's nothing" he wheezed.
Yuno did the unthinkable and tackled Popuko.
"Fight! Fight! Fight!" chanted the cafeteria.
I was seriously freaking out, Yuno was definitely not a worthy opponent for Popuko.
Just as Popuko was getting ready to throw another punch, I jumped between them.
"AUGHEH!" I shrieked in pain.
Popuko's eyes widened in horror after realizing what she had just done.
She hit me right in the stomach.
"I-I didn't mean to" she said, covering her mouth.
"It's fine.." I groan weakly.
"I think we should take him to the nurse!" said Pipimi, lifting my head.
"What about Rex?!" fumed Yuno.
"That punk didn't even get what he fully deserved!" snarled Popuko, cracking her knuckles.
Just as she was about to strike Rex, a hand stopped her.
"ENOUGH!"
The cafeteria went quiet.
It was Principal Poopy Pants, and boy was he ticked.
"Popuko and Rex Dangervest, my office now!"
"Don't throw me under the bus, Yuno had a part in this too!"
"That's not true! Right Yuki?"
She looked at me with puppy dog eyes.
I wanted to defend her, but honestly after she rushed to Rex's defense instead of even checking on me, it'd be best for her to think about her actions.
"Actually the whole cafeteria is filled with witnesses" I shot back.
Yuno looked hurt by my words, but I was in agonizing pain.
"Ugouh..." I said, clutching my stomach.
"That's it! To the nurse's office" insisted Pipimi.
I weakly walked towards the nurse's office, accompanied by Pipimi.
Popuko looked at me sadly while Yuno stared at me blankly.
Which for some reason hurt more than anything going on in my stomach.
