The Man With No Name
The intro begins to play, with a shot of the moon before panning to Ro screaming, stuck on the Ferris wheel.
It cuts to The Spy, Lucy, and Solar Flare tied to the carousel. High Tower and Sally Slaughter are shown about to slam their weapons into them and a man rides on a motorcycle in the background.
Next, Waluigi is shown tied to a wonder wheel and the lead clown throws a knife at him, narrowly missing.
On the streets, Mike, Gwen, and Harley try to escape from the chains around their neck held by The Carnival Master. The Demon Dog jumps in joy at their futile attempts.
In the graveyard, a zombie bites a townsperson in the neck. Gloria stands outside the demon arch with a bloody spear.
Jax stands about to be chomped by the Funhouse entrance as Loki and Izuku runs away, terrified.
Finally, Charlie stands in front of the town entrance, horrified at the chaos surrounding her.
Escape The Night
As soon as Loki finished the note, pandemonium ensued, though not because of the note. A thump cried from outside, making the group jump. They ignored the noise as Calliope ran to the map and brought it to the group.
Lucy: As with the last time we cleansed an artifact, something new has appeared on the map.
"There's green stuff everywhere," Loki pointed out. Izuku pointed out Shag's Motel and The Man With No Name's Lair.
"The Man With No Name was hunted because the town thought he was a freak of nature. He sure showed them," he read. Mortimer ran in, "There's a body outside!" he yelled.
"What?!" the group collectively shouted and followed him outside. On top of the popcorn machine was a clear body bag. "Oh, my God!" Charlie yelled out as Jax opened the body bag.
He pulled a book out from the body's hands, "There's a book." He walked back inside as he opened it, everyone following him.
The Spy: Jax is being very serious. Is he the one who will betray us?
Jax found the last journal entry. The group surrounded him and he began to read.
Jan. 30, 1978
I'm getting close to finding the Statue of Era. Its power is both terrifying and intoxicating. Many have died seeking to obtain it. After gather their obituaries, I discovered that their deaths have been secretly chronicled in 'The Adventures of Allan Quartermain.' There's something about placing the volumes in their proper order that will reveal the statue. The painting holds the key.
Gloria: Ah'm thinkin' this has tae be oor next artifact.
"Painting? What painting?" Lucy asked as Izuku put the map back on the wall. Ro found a book written by Allan Quartermain. "That's his name," she announced, showing it to the group.
Everyone looked, finding the name written at the bottom being Allan Quartermain. "Okay, so we need to find six books written by that person," Gwen said as she started to look.
Jax flipped to the next page, where a photo dropped to his feet. Mike picked it up and they both looked at it before looking around the room.
Mike: We flip through the book, finding the next page had a picture of a painting. We realize two things with it, this is the painting we need, and that it has to be somewhere in this room.
Lucy spotted the photo in Mike's hand and immediately pointed at the wall, "There!" The two men looking turned to where she was pointing, seeing the painting with six people right there.
Mike and Lucy grabbed the painting and brought it to the group as Izuku theorized. "Maybe we have to place the books in front of the picture," he mumbled loud enough for the group to hear.
Jax: Well, no matter what, we're gonna need to find the books, then we have to match them to murders, and figure out where these go.
The group looked around for every book written by Allan Quartermain while Jax flipped through the journal.
Soon enough, they had six books and Jax found a drawing of a bookholder. Gwen took a look and spotted them on a nearby shelf, now they just needed the obituaries.
Conveniently enough, Jax found a secret pocket with the obituaries in the journal. Spy though it was too convenient as the rest of the group fumbled over the obituaries.
Harley: Each of the obituaries has a pretty detailed description of their death.
"Sarah G. was eaten alive by flesh-eating beetles," Jax read disgusting him as he matched the book with the obituary and placed it over the person on the painting.
Izuku: And we find out the causes of their deaths line up with the books of Allan Quartermain. So, we use the pictures in the obituaries to match them up with their appropriate adventurer in this painting.
"This guy was crucified by the Black Order Cult," Lucy said, disturbed, before Gloria pointed out the book named 'The Evil Cross.' "Ooo, ah've got 'Danielle speared wi' a trident," she said afterward.
Gloria: Wi' that info, we kin line up the books in the order they’re meant tae gang.
Charlie, somehow, managed to grab all six books in her arms and placed them in the bookholder. Suddenly, a wall in the room fell down, revealing a dark room with a green statue on a pedestal.
"That looks demonic," Loki said, Charlie nodded her head at him. "We're not in Everlock anymore, Toto," Harley joked as they walked to the statue.
Gwen: This door opens out of nowhere and inside is this, definitely cursed, statue.
Charlie: This has to be the Statue of Era.
"There's a box in here too, guys!" Gwen called out as she approached it. "I feel like we shouldn't open it, and that probably means we should," she added as she carefully removed the lid.
The Spy: Inside the box were straws and a note.
Spy grabbed the note and opened it, before reading. "The Statue of Era infects all who touch it." Lucy backed away, "No one touched it, right?" Everyone nodded and Spy continued.
Loki: There's no clowns, no snakes, just a cursed statue that could kill you.
To purify the corrupted idol, five ancient stones must be placed at its feet. To find the stones, you must assemble two hunting parties by drawing straws from the box. Two with the short straws will be the party leaders, while the one with the shortest straw will be safe from being chosen. Starting with the youngest leader, they will take turns picking their team. The group to recover the stones will be safe from the final challenge, along with the one with the shortest straw. However, The Man With No Name protects his gems, and his touch removes you from the hunt for five minutes. Your only sanctuary is under a red light.
Izuku: The two with short straws are the captains, the third one with the shortest sits out. That ends up being Harley, and the leaders were Loki and Mike.
"Okay, I'm 25, and you're thousands of years old?" Mike guesstimated, to which Loki replied, "Around 1050, to be exact." The group just stood in silence before Mike said, "Cool... So I choose first..."
He looked at the eight options in front of him, "Gloria," he said after a while. "Lucy," Loki quickly said afterward.
"Izuku."
"Gwen."
"Ro."
"Charlie."
"Jax."
"Spy."
"So, to recap," Charlie began before anyone asked anything. "We have to go outside and hunt for something to get stones for a cursed statue, and we are safe from the monster under red lights. Got it?"
Everyone nodded as Mortimer went to Loki's group and Calliope went to Mike's. They left the arcade to find the town drenched in green smoke or fog and two bedside tables with hands.
Gwen: We walk outside and there's this green mist covering everything. Then we notice hands with severed fingers.
Loki was handed a note by Mortimer, which he read. "Each clue will lead their respective group to a severed finger."
Izuku: Yay! I love finding severed body parts!
After each finger is found, the group must return to their hand and put it back on the bone to recieve the next clue.
Lucy: So we have to find fingers, put them back on the hand to get the next clue, and then that will help use find stones. Also, ew, why? Why fingers, it's disgusting.
"Sae keep yer eyes peeled for fingers, then we’ll git a hint, an’ we’ll grab the stanes at the end," the group nodded at Gloria.
Gloria: Whoever disnae grab the stones, their names are up for the chop.
"My team- My team's over here, guys," Mortimer lead Loki's group to the closer table as Calliope and Mike's team went to the other table. On each was a note in an envelope.
"Does everyone have their notes?" Calliope asked, both said yes. "Both teams, read your first clue," she instructed. Both opened the envelope and read their clues.
Loki's Group: Stand between the sun and moon, and view the tree that died too soon.
Mike's Group: Eight sides to feel the air, a romantic place to stop and stair.
"Okay, we have to find a tree that died too soon, a sun, and a moon," Charlie said. While on the other table, that group was thinking through their clue.
Izuku looked around them, pointing at the gazebo. "Is that a romantic place?" her group looked to the gazebo before saying yes and going toward it.
The group ran to the gazebo when a tall creature with long limbs walked toward them, growling. Mike's group screamed and ran to a red light nearby.
Jax: All I can say is, "What the f*ck is that?!"
Mike: Around the corner, comes The Man With No Name, towering over us.
The creature hissed at both groups, letting them get a good look at its horrid face. It was dark and was filled with what looked like burn wounds.
Rosanna: And he has really long arms.
The Man With No Name left in the direction of Loki's group. "Okay, go, go, go!" Mike said, leading the group to the gazebo. Once there, Gloria said, "Tak a keek unda the stairs. The clue spelt it S-T-A-I-R!"
Having nothing better to do, the group followed what she said. With five people and four stairs, it shouldn't have taken long to find the finger. Some looked under, others looked around, and they rotated sometimes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Loki's group ran in the opposite direction as Mike's group. "I can't see anything!" Gwen cried out as Lucy said parts of the clue to herself. "Sun and moon, tree that died too soon."
Charlie looked at a wall finding a sculpture of a sun hanging on it. "Wait, a sun!" she pointed at it as The Man With No Name growled. "Okay, we need to find a moon," Loki said.
They ran around looking, when Charlie found a tree stump. "Wait..." she went to the stump and found a finger on the rim. "Got it!" she yelled out before running with the group from The Man With No Name.
They ran to a red light, passing the sun on the wall, and The Man With No Name almost hit Calliope. The creature roared at them before walking away, letting the group run to their next clue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With Mike's group, they looked at different stairs until Mike saw it under a crack. "I got it!" he called out before running to the next clue with his group, seeing the other group as well.
Both groups ignored each other and quickly placed their fingers on the hands. They grabbed their second clues and ran to red lights as The Man With No Name was approaching.
Loki's Group: Fifteen doors on both sides, but in one, a secret resides
Mike's Group: Burn and churn and pour in more.
The Man With No Name was not leaving the two groups, so Jax did something. "Hey, No Name! Looky here!" he shouted before doing some weird dance. The Man With No Name walk toward Jax, who ran.
Jax: The guy isn't leaving, so I decide to distract him so we can move on with this hunt.
Both teams thought of where to go as Jax ran around distracting The Man With No Name. "Burn, churn, pour in more... Gasoline?" Mike asked.
"Cause you can burn it, it gets churned out of the ground, and you pour it." Gloria shrugged and said, "Ah mean, we’ve naethin’ better tae dae, so let’s get oan wi’ it!"
They ran over to where they thought the gas station was, as the other group ran in another direction. Jax used this chance of everyone not under red to escape The Man With No Name and join his group.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With Loki's group, they ended up at Shag's Motel, where there were two buildings with fifteen doors. "This is it. This is the place," Loki said, pointing out the fifteen doors.
Everyone split to find the finger, checking the doors. Loki went through, before spotting something unusual in one. He got closer seeing it was the finger.
"There it is!" he said before pulling it out. "Man, you have good eyes," Gwen said and Loki nodded before the group ran off to their hand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mike's group reached the gas station and started searching everywhere. It felt like forever as the place was dirty, and things were everywhere. But luckily, Ro spotted the finger on a pump.
She went onto her tippy toes to grab it, "There! I got it!" she announced to the cheers of everyone before they ran to their hand. They were stopped by The Man With No Name and had to stop under a red light.
There, they saw the other group get to their hand and place their second finger before running under a red light and reading it.
Loki's Group: 88 keys open the door. Its tune will leave you wanting more.
This time, Gwen decided to do the distracting and Mike's group ran to their hand as Loki's group went to Fat Man Slims. They placed the finger and read the clue.
Mike's Group: Round and round and round we go, where we stop, no one knows.
"That has to be the merry-go-round," Izuku said and the group nodded. The only problem was that the merry-go-round was huge and having a finder hidden there was a load of bullshit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Loki's group knew it had to be a piano, but didn't know where one was. They went to Fat Man Slims, deciding it would most likely be there. Gwen ran in a bit afterward and got caught up.
They quickly found the piano in a corner, and saw the finger laying atop it. Lucy grabbed it and went to the hand, getting the last clue and a key.
Final Clue: I live beneath the faces of the dead. Finding me will get you a step ahead.
"There are skulls hanging there," Gwen pointed out the skulls hanging from the top of a building's porch. The group walked toward the building and looked around for anything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The other group was busy searching the merry-go-round for a finger. They looked high, Ro looked low, the looked somewhere in the middle. Again, after what felt like an eternity, Izuku found it and held it up.
They ran toward their hand, getting the final clue and their key, before being held up by The Man With No Name. Once he left, they went to the building with the skulls and both teams searched everywhere.
They got scattered from each other, looking everywhere when Ro brushed some leaves off the stairs, finding that she could take the board off. Underneath the board was a box.
She grabbed the box and called out for the key. Gloria ran over and unlocked the box, showing four red stones and a note to be inside. Mike's group cheered before running inside the arcade.
Once inside, they placed the stones down and hugged each other. Calliope watched from the sidelines when Jax pulled her in. "You to, Calliope, we're huggers."
Loki's group quickly, but disappointingly walked toward the arcade as well. They walked in as Mike's group finished their hug fest.
Gwen: The other team found the box first. We're going into the elimination challenge.
Loki: I'm angry, to be honest, because everyone but Spy contributed.
"So, you won," Lucy said, Charlie going up and shaking their hands saying, "Good job," to each of them. "So, that means ye lot are up fur a vote, aye?" Gloria asked.
Loki nodded, and bitterly said, "Yeah, that- That's what the rules said." Mike grabbed the note from inside the box, "We got this note with the gems," he said before reading.
The Blood Gem can only be recovered by learning the name of the man without one. Two must be selected by vote to enter his toxic lair and steal it from him.
"So, we still need the one in the center?" Spy asked. Jax nodded his head as they went to the lounge. Ro placed the stones in the statue.
Well, place was putting it vaguely, it was more like, 'The stones magically attracted themselves to the statue when Ro held them close.'
Charlie: We go back to the Divine Lounge. We see the obsidian stones the other team got. The big gem in the middle is all we need.
"So... I think this is a time where you plead your cases to us," Izuku hesitantly said. "Well," Loki began, "I found a finger, Charlie found a finger, Lucy found a finger, Gwen distracted. Spy, though, did nothing."
Mike turned to Spy, "You wanna say something about that?" The Frenchman slowly said, "Well, I know I didn't do much here, but I feel like I may be needed in the future."
With that, the group dispersed to discuss which of Loki's group should be in the challenge. Well, really which other member of Loki's group should be in the challenge.
"Do you think we should just... vote for ourselves?" Lucy suggested. They all did something and two people needed to go in, so the rest of the group, sans Spy, nodded.
Once it came to voting, everyone gave their input one by one, like usual. Everyone except Spy knew exactly what they were gonna do. Either vote for themselves, or for Spy.
Charlie: Charlie
Jax: Spy
Lucy: Lucy
Izuku: Spy
Rosanna: Spy
Gloria: Spy
Loki: Loki
The Spy: Gwen
Harley: Gwen (Spy's cards ran out when she went up, so she had to choose the person who did the second least.)
Mike: Spy
Gwen: Gwen
Calliope shuffled the cards before stopping. "The first one into the challenge is..." she drew a card and flipped it, "The Super Spy." No one was suprised. "The second one..." she drew and flipped again.
"The Savant." Now everyone was shocked until Charlie said why it was there. "Me, Gwen, Lucy, and Loki decided to vote for ourselves as two people needed to be in the challenge. It's fine."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Second Person POV: Charlie
Calliope nods her head and tells Spy and me to follow her to the challenge. She hands Mortimer some gloves and points at the statue before we leave.
Quickly afterward, Mortimer comes back with the Statue of Era. Calliope leads us to the edge of the town, where there's a forest separated by a bridge.
It's also covered in the green fog from the town that dissipated earlier. On the table that's also there for some reason is the instructions. I grab them and read them aloud.
There are two sets of eight letters hidden throughout the lair that spell the name of The Man With No Name, one red and one yellow. The first to find their set and arrange them must call out his name. They will then recieve the blood gem, and the other will be strangled.
Charlie: We have to run around the lair, find letters, and spell his name. It's like a dark, creepy Easter egg hunt.
"Charlie, you're yellow, Spy, you're red," Mortimer tells us and we nod. "You ready?" we nod again, "Good luck out there." We run inside and begin trying to search for our letters in the fog.
Charlie: This fog is thick. I can't see anything, so I decide to move like The Man With No Name, sweeping my arms around, just to see the ground.
I sweep my arms to brush away the fog as Spy tries looking without moving his arms. The Man With No Name walks over while growling, making us run.
Charlie (cont.): Oh, and did I mention The Man With No Name is chasing us?
Spy quickly grabs his first letter and I follow suit before finding my second letter too. We continue to search as The Man With No Name chases us around, Spy finding his second letter soon after me.
Both of us avoid The Man With No Name and find our third letters one after the other and place them on our tables like the other two.
Spy: I have three, Charlie has three. I'm going to live.
I run around and find my fourth and place it on my table seeing Spy place his fourth as well. Quickly afterward, I find my fifth after running a bit and my sixth soon after.
I place both on my table and run from The Man With No Name's swing. Spy is getting angrier due to the fact he isn't finding his letters. I stop to take a breather and say to myself, "Where haven't I looked?"
"Maybe over here," I quickly follow that thought up and find my seventh letter. Seventh, and Spy is still at four. I look over to see him kicking some skulls over looking for his fifth.
I find my eighth hiding in a tree and quickly run to my table, screaming as The Man With No Name follows me. Once there, I look at my letters. I, A, N, J, M, E, N, B. "B-Benjamin. That's your name, Benjamin!"
The Man Wit- Benjamin roars into the air and starts walking to Spy, who's now realizing he lost. He pulls out his butterfly knife and tries stabbing Benjamin, who grabs him by the neck and breaths fog at him.
Not only is Spy dying from being strangled, but also having toxic fog being spewed onto his face. The box with the Blood Gem inside opens and I grab it, running to Mortimer.
I hold the Blood Gem to the statue at it magically attaches. In the forest, the fog starts to dissapate and Spy's body drops to the floor as Benjamin begins to be uncursed.
I walk over to see his clothes, now to big for him, draped over his body. His face, which looked like acid burns, is now Caucasian and has a birth mark on the left side of his face and other scars everywhere.
"Benjamin?" I ask. He sees me and crawls away, "I- I- I'm so- orry. Please do- on't hurt me-e." I walk over, "No, no, no, it's fine. You're gonna be okay. I'm not gonna hurt you."
Calliope walks in, looking shocked at the voice, "Benny?" He looks over at her, "Mom?" She smiles and runs over, hugging him, "I missed you so much, fiul!"
I smile at the moment and Mortimer walks in. I turn to him, "Do you know if there's a clothing store?" He nods and Caliope and Benjamin, who is left in just the huge shirt he wore as The Man With No Name, stand.
Mortimer leads us to said clothing store and Benjamin goes inside. He later comes out in cargo pants, a white shirt, and a brown coat. Calliope hugs him and kisses him on the forehead.
"I'm sorry I couldn't help you, Benny," she says. He smiles, "It's o- okay, mamă." I smile before Mortimer says, "I'd hate to ruin the moment, but we still have to come back to the group."
Calliope nodded before telling Benjamin, "Go outside the curtains to a clearing and wait there until sunrise, I'll be back." He nodded and walked off and we returned to the lounge.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The group sat around when Charlie came in with the cleansed artifact. They celebrated as she placed the statue into a cubby. Calliope went over to the box and grabbed one of Spy's cards and placed it inside.
"So what's next?" Harley asked and everyone looked at each other, not knowing. "Step right up!" an old voice rang from outside, shocking the group.
