Itachi

When Itachi first Met Miho he had no clue who she was. He had heard her name in passing before, she was on a team with Uncle Suzuo’s only child and Uncle lamented about her often. He didn’t see his cousin often, so hadn’t heard anything about her first hand. But what he had heard of her left him feeling slightly exasperated anyways.

Of course their first meeting wasn’t one where they exchanged names, he saw her in passing when the girl wailed about messing up her Dango dissection. He and Shisui had both gone silent and Itachi had berated himself for not having the conversation in a private location, but he also felt lucky she wasn’t paying attention.

The first time they meet and trade names is as Weasel and Butterfly. They are ANBU agents of Ro Squad and have no time to be friends, but they are teammates and that is a relationship that doesn’t need to be friendship to work so well together.

He admitted privately to himself she was probably the closest thing he had to a friend since Shisui.

When they finally meet at Itachi and Miho, she is a brooding teenager who weaponizes her reputation into  letting everyone believe she is still like Gai, any slips of her real personality are written off as fake. Watching her interact with other Konoha Shinobi is illuminating… she doesn’t trust anyone but a few. Her paranoia is something of war-time legends.

He knew he cared for her rather slowly in comparison to her own care for him when he felt her hand wrap around his ankle. It was a practiced motion he can only assume came from when he was laid in the hospital. Healing from something that would’ve been the death of him had Miho not kidnapped Tsunade-sama. Her dedication to him was scary. He knew she loved him, not romantically as some would expect but just fierce burning love for everything she has decided deserves her love. Her devotion to him makes him wonder if she had an Uchiha ancestor somewhere down the line. The obsession she loves with is the stuff they reserve for warning their members not to fall too far into.

May the Shinigami have mercy, because Miho certainly won’t.
