The Awakening
He awoke to screaming. Unbearable, guy wrenching sobbing that he recognized instantly. He knew that scream, he knew that cry, that was her scream. God why is she screaming? Why was she crying? What happened? Wait, where is she? That got James to open his eyes, where was Lily?
He looked around and saw her in the corner sobbing. He went to get up before groaning and falling back down again. He went to move his legs only to see them chained to the floor. Confused, he looked up to Lily. “Lily, sweetheart, are you hurt?” He asked desperately.
“He’s gone James. He’s gone. My baby is….gone” she broke off. That’s when everything flooded back into his head. How could he forget his son? His baby! Then it hit him. There was going to be another one on the way, they just found out a week ago with a muggle test.
“Lily, honey, what about the other one? Are they ok? Please I can’t lose two kids in one night ....” James prays the last part to himself.
“They’re both gone…” she whispers as she rocks herself back and forth. James realized that she is also chained to the floor. It’s cruel really, they’re both so close, but yet so far. James scoots over just far enough that he pulls the chains to their tightest. He stretches his arm out to hold his unconsolable wife. She seems to notice and attend to crawl into his arms. That’s when she noticed the chains.
“James, where are we? I saw green, he told me to stand aside. I didn’t… James, wait I heard you die! What is going on!” She starts to panic. At that moment footsteps start resounding in the cave-like prison. With the minimal light he couldn’t see the entrance of the prison until now.
That’s when he saw the cause of the footsteps. A face he never expected to walk in entered with a lantern. The man who killed his children. The man who sold them out, stood five feet in front of him. Just far enough to be safe from the enraged father.
“YOU! YOU DID THIS! HOW COULD YOU? WE WERE YOUR FRIENDS!” He roared, jumping away from Lily to the man he trusted with his life, with his family’s lives. Guess Peter Pettigrew decided to see how far that trust would go.
Pettigrew cowered away from the man. “James, you do not know the methods he possesses” he whispers.
“You should’ve died to protect us. Yet they died because I trusted you.” James hisses. James then noticed the silver that replaced the flesh that used to coat his hand. The man looks simply awful, truly resembling the rat he was. “What do you want with us? Voldemort got what he wanted…”
“Quite the contrary Mr. Potter,” another voice enters
“Lucius Malfoy, what did we do to be blessed by your presence?” James asked
“You are going to be the key to ridding the world of all those less than pure. Starting with you filthy mudbloods,” he spits towards Lily.
“You leave her out of this Malfoy,” James attempts to move in front of his wife who still seems to be in shock. She was staring at the ground with an unwavering gaze.
“Doesn’t seem like you’re in a position to stop me then huh Potter?” Malfoy sneered. “Well, I guess we’ll have to wait to see what the Dark Lord wants to do with the two of you. He has quite the plan for you blood traitor and your little mudblood wife.” He turns around with such a flare it starkly reminds James of a dancer. He strides to the door waiting for Pettigrew to exit before charming the door shut behind him.
