Quickly turning off the phone, he stares at Nam-gyu walking towards him. With a nervous smile he waves at him, “Na–Nam-su!! Hey!” Thanos stuttered, cursing his nervousness.
Nam-gyu smiles at him and it fills Thanos up with warmth at the sight. But remembering what he saw earlier about Nam-gyu and Dae-ho, he scowls at the thought.
Nam-gyu raises an eyebrow at this but still looks at him with amusement, sitting down beside him. “Sorry I took so long dude,” he apologized, “You probably waited too long didn't you?”
Thanos scoffed, “No.” he answered too dryly. Not daring to make eye contact with the boy.
Awkwardly, Nam-gyu looks at Thanos questioningly, “Dude… Is everything alright? I know I was gone for a bit..”, Thanos could practically hear the pout on Nam-gyu, making his cheeks feel all warm and his stomach all fuzzy at the thought.
“Yeah yeah,” He muttered, “It's alright, I don't really mind.” He dared to take a peak towards Nam-gyu, and he froze as he stared at the pouting face of his friend.
“Dude.. whats wrong… did I do something wrong??” Nam-gyu asks, almost pleadingly as he held Thanos’ hand. “Come on dude, what's wrong??”
"I…" he stutters, staring at his hand trapped between Namgyu’s, his eyes widening while his face flushing with warmth.
Nam-gyu notices his reaction, swiftly pulls his hands away, as if hiding them from view. Tucking them inside his sweater sleeves and suddenly it feels like Nam-gyu is distancing himself from him.
Thanos doesn’t know why, but it stings—his heart tightens at the way Namgyu pulls back, like a wall has gone up between them.
Nam-gyu looks away, his voice soft, almost too soft, “Sorry”
Silence fills them and it feels like Nam-gyu is a world apart.
Thanos sighs, trying to shake off the strange ache in his chest, catching Nam-gyu’s attention.
"...Nam-gyu."
Nam-gyu looked up at him, eyes meeting his, he was shrinking back but his eyes were a curious, unreadable expression.
"What were you doing with Dae-ho earlier?" He tries to sound casual but bitterness laced the words at the thought of Nam-gyu with Dae-ho— making his blood boil. His Nam-su… looking at someone else like that.
He knows he falls short in trying to sound casual when Namgyu suddenly brightens, a teasing smirk curling on his pouty lips.
“Why?” Nam-gyu teases, as if gaining confidence– he grabs the forgotten sandwich Thanos had on his plate. “Why'd you wanna know?” He grinned as he took a bite, eyes locked onto Thanos with playful curiosity, as if he already knows the reason as to why he is asking.
Thanos scoffs at the supposed accusation, he crosses his arms across his chest, “I don't know, just curious.” He mutters, the way his gaze flickers away from Nam-gyu and back to him, betrays him.
Nam-gyu snickers playfully, catching Thanos red-handed, letting him know what he was actually asking about.
“Thanos, you know I'm not going to replace you," Nam-gyu scoffs, finishing off Thanos' sandwich like it was the most natural thing in the world. "Remember what we promised each other? Together forever?" He snickers, flashing a grin that makes Thanos’ chest tighten.
It might be the lighting, but Thanos swears he sees a faint blush on Nam-gyu’s cheeks.
He smiles despite himself, watching the way Nam-gyu looks—hair tucked behind his ears, a carefree energy radiating off him. That giddiness is contagious, and for a moment, Thanos feels his own joy slip in, the warmth of it spreading through him.
“Of course my Boy!” As if like a switch, Thanos roared as he slid his hand between Nam-gyu’s shoulder blades. “Together forever!! You aren't leaving Thanos’ world that easily!” Thanos laughs with a sense of triumph, earning everyone's eyes on them in the cafeteria, Nam-gyu snickering with him.
Both Nam-gyu and Thanos didn’t really care about the attention they had gathered. Both lost in their own giddiness to really care what other people might think of them.
They both locked eyes as their laughter echoed, each of them leaning into the other, their happiness radiating in the air between them. There was something so natural about the way they fit together, like everything else faded away when they were this close. They didn't need words—just being in each other’s presence was enough. In that moment, nothing mattered more than the joy of simply being together.
