Vanishing cakes
He left the cakes on the table, a smile on his face that had not yet faded. Remus turned on his heels to appreciate the scene in front of his eyes, to record it in his mind, so he could replay it as many times as he wanted in the future.
“Mom, Lily! Dad, James!” Harry exclaimed, excitedly, “Pete and Moony!”
“And I Harry?” Sirius questioned, picking Harry up off the floor. The boy stuck his tongue out at him and then began to laugh “Pad-foot, Uncle Sirius or just Sirius; Si-rius.
Harry didn't even pretend to respond, and instead pulled away from Sirius until he lost his balance and almost fell to the ground; had it not been for Remus waving his wand and managing to suspend him.
“Mom, he's bad!” cried Harry, as he was placed lightly back on the ground. “Moony he's good! I love you!”
James' laughter became raucous, Sirius began to lament his misfortune. He had been trying for months to get Harry to call him by name, but nothing. He kept avoiding and he didn't understand why.
Remus reached over and pinched his nose, kneeling on the floor.
“I love you too, little Prongs.”
Lily got up from the couch and began setting the table for tea, being helped by Peter. Remus sat down next to Sirius, resting his arm on the backrest, rather exhausted, though enjoying that warm familiar feeling.
“How's it going with the inheritance?” Remus asked James. Harry managed to climb onto Lupin's lap and just sat there, pretending to be an adult. “I still can't believe it.”
“They were over eighty, you Moony” James clarified, sighing, “I still have a bit of paperwork left to do at Gringotts, however, as I'm an only child all the properties were left in my name.”
“Do you think you'll need to look for a job?” Sirius leaned slowly against the lunatic's body, though Harry unwillingly settled himself between the men “Why do you hate me so much, Harry?!”
“My Moony. You're mean.” Harry stuck his tongue out at him and Sirius pouted his lips. “Lupin loves me more!”
“Lying, the boy doesn't lie” Lupin scoffed, just to annoy Sirius, “He's so tiny, how can I not love him more than you?”
James decided to interrupt the fight that was coming, grabbing Harry and putting him in the highchair, which was arranged in the dining room.
“Harry, if you don't behave yourself, you're not going to get cake” James scolded, receiving a nod from Harry. “I don't think I need to work, at least not until Harry gets into Hogwarts. I want to devote myself to him fully, don't I, sweetheart?”
Lily, giving him a soft kiss on his cheek, nodded and called the rest to the table. The desserts were served by magic, although Harry made a face when he realized that he had gotten the smallest piece of cake and Sirius, noticing this detail, teased the boy.
Everyone was so focused on the conversation about the Potters' future plans that it wasn't until Sirius wanted to take a bite of his cake that he realized it was gone.
“Why did you steal my cake?!” Sirius snarled, accusing Lupin, who frowned.
“I didn't take anything from you. Maybe you already ate it and didn't even notice.”
“But I didn't even take a bite!”
“Food can't just disappear” Lily added, a little confused. Harry's laughter rose above the disbelief of the rest of them, “Harry?”
The boy smiled, and they all noticed that on his tray he had two slices of cake. His own, three milks and Sirius' (Plum). Something especially strange, considering Harry was sitting at the other end of the table.
“He's a wizard!” James celebrated, getting up from the table, as he went to give Harry a big kiss.
“Hey, give me my cake!”
The rest of the day was spent with James trying to get Harry to demonstrate his magic again, which turned out to be a fiasco, at least until Harry made a couple of blocks disappear.
The desserts, in any case, had been delicious.
