Call Him By His Name
Arthur somehow gravely offends a high-ranking sidhe. To pay for it, the sidhe requests a True Name. Merlin stops Arthur from agreeing and offers his own name with a condition that if the sidhe harms Arthur or Camelot whether directly or otherwise, he would get the name back. He specifies during the giving of the name that he gives the name Merlin. After the sidhe collects the name, it looks surprised and calls Merlin a clever boy, before disappearing in the lake of Avalon. Merlin tells Arthur that he stopped him from giving his own name because that would erase everything that the name represents and therefore everything that he is, but he, Merlin, will be alright because he has another name that fully represents him. Arthur and his court have been told about Emrys and his guardianship of Camelot when they debated whether to remove the ban of magic. Merlin reveals that he is Emrys and turns to Arthur, revealing that his eyes now are permanently golden.
