Chapter 1

Even after leaving Hogwarts, the werewolf transformations that Remus had to endure were incredibly taxing on his body. Padfoot was helpful, they lived together after all. But Sirius noticed it every time he caught Remus off guard. The limp in his step was tolerable and easy enough to hide, but it still worried Sirius enough that he always gave him extra care after full moons. Remus was appreciative enough to accept the extra help, if only because it was out of care for him rather than pity.

Of course, Sirius always felt like he needed to do more. He knew it wasn’t his fault, but it pissed him off that there was nothing he could do about the effects of Remus’s condition. Even Marlene had yet to find anything truly helpful, although her studies were rather amazing. Remus meant everything to him, and even if they could safely get through the full moons, Sirius still wished he could lift the burden of pain off of Remus’s shoulders. The idea came to him in the glorious form of an animated movie. He wasn’t a fan of muggle inventions, but the Minions movie was one of their best.

Never mind that it hadn’t been released yet. At some point in time, one of the future wizards had mistakenly thrown a few muggle movies back in time. Before leaving Hogwarts, Sirius had made it a point to snatch one up from McGonagall. It was some kind of revenge for all of the prank material she had confiscated throughout their years at Hogwarts. As a celebration of finally leaving the school, he had invited his best friends over for a movie night. He didn’t want to watch his super rare find alone, and he of course used the excuse of celebrating their newly found freedom. It was rather bittersweet, but he did his best to enjoy it anyway. He felt, of course, entirely rejected when both James and Peter declined his invitation. Of course, Potter had his reasons, but Peter brought out an inexplicable rage in Sirius that felt rather unjustified. Regardless, Peter had pretty much disappeared from their lives after graduation, and it would be nice for him to at least pretend to be involved. It was the least he could do after they had to put up with him for all these years. James liked him though, and he figured Remus did too, so he tried his best to reach out to him.

“You look upset,” Remus prodded, taking a seat next to him at the table. “What’s wrong Padfoot, are we out of your cereal again?” he laughed.

“Quit being a prick. I went to get more yesterday,” he smiled, rolling his eyes. “I tried to set up a nice time for us all to get together, but everyone is busy with who knows what.”

Remus nudged him. “We’re all a bit busy, yeah? We can do it some other time.”

Sirius slumped over in his seat. “I think our time is running out,” he said, hoping Remus got the gist. The war had taken over many of their lives, and it was something the two rarely talked about. Careful not to sour the mood, he added, “It was just a movie though, I guess it’s not such a big deal.”

“I know,” Remus only smiled back reassuringly. “We can just watch it together if you want?” he suggested. “I mean, if you want to wait for them that’s cool too. But I’m not going anywhere tonight, yeah?”

“Yeah,” Sirius smiled, deciding he didn’t want to wait for them just so he could enjoy his movie. Besides, he would get more time alone with Remus. It wasn’t like they lived together, or anything. So, they ended up spending the night alone, cuddled up on the couch together: all while watching a movie that was supposed to come out in the future decades. The idea hadn’t hit him until after the movie. It was wonderful, really. For the first 30 minutes, both he and Remus had marveled at how vivid everything was. The next hour they had both been absorbed in the movie. Remus had a quite funny hatred for Victor and would scowl every time his mass of orange came on the screen.

“I would piss myself if I had that haircut,” he stated. “It looks like a mushroom.”

"Me too," Sirius agreed. It was awful.

The credits rolled.

He figured he loved Gru. His minions, too. It was truly genius. Stealing the moon would have really been revolutionary, at least for the muggles. He laughed. “Imagine just showing up,” he said, “and pulling the moon out of your pocket. That's so cool.” He was rather sad that the movie was over, and that he would have to get up soon. He was rather comfortable being embraced by Remus under a mass of blankets.

“I would steal the moon for you,” Remus, whispered, unraveling from his blanket and pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. "You can bring it with you everywhere," he laughed.

“Well, aren’t you sweet,” Sirius hummed, rolling off of the couch, and going to clean up the empty bowls of popcorn. "I don't need it. I have my Moony right here." Remus joined him in the kitchen and pulled him into a hug. He added, "Don't worry, I would steal the Moon for you too if I could.”

     He paused.

     Now there’s a thought.

Remus was now setting up the record player, spinning the latest “Heroes” album by David Bowie. It started, and the sound was comforting.

I could be king

“That’s it Moony! If I get you the Moon, you’ll never have to transform again- I’m sure there’s a spell for it…” Sirius was rambling, dead serious.

Remus only smiled at him, casually dancing along to the words.

Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day

“Moony,” Sirius drawled, tugging on his arm.

“Hm?” Remus laughed. “Wanna dance, Padfoot?”

“No way,” he rolled his eyes. He put his arms around Remus and danced anyway.

And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall)

And the shame was on the other side

...

“I was just thinking…” Sirius started.

     “Were you now?”

     “Shut up Remus.”

     "What's up, Padfoot."

“If you could actually shrink the moon, you wouldn’t ever have a full moon again, right?”

Remus barked out a laugh. “Maybe. Wouldn’t be any moon cycles, so I guess. Yeah.”

“But what if it doesn’t work because you have the entire moon?” Sirius offered. “Since you can have the whole moon, wouldn’t it always be full?” His eyebrows lowered in frustration.

“That’s not how it works,” Remus laughed, flicking Sirius’ forehead lightly. “You’re thinking too hard on it,” he said, spinning Sirius. Remus obviously thought he was joking.

"It could help you," he smiled. “I’m serious Moony.”

Remus stopped dancing. He looked incredibly concerned, his face going blank. He said, “I know you’re Sirius, but what am I?”

“I hate you,” he said, his smile widening. He pulled away from Remus, reaching over the counter to find some parchment paper. He wrote a short message for James and Peter, requesting assistance in researching his very important mission for the moon. Remus embraced him from behind while he wrote.

     He was, in fact, serious.

And we kissed, as though nothing could fall

And the shame was on the other side...

Sirius finished shortly, as the record took him away from his thoughts. Sirius stepped back into the middle of the kitchen. “I know the song’s almost over-," he looked at Remus, "-but do you wanna dance?”

Remus scoffed as if it were obvious. “Yeah.”

We're nothing, and nothing will help us

Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay

But we could be safer, just for one day

...

Sirius did not sleep that night.

Instead, he sat himself down in front of the fireplace to read. It was about the moon, specifically. Had any wizards even used magic on the moon? The moon was its own source, after all. And how much magic exactly would he need to get him that far away? And back? It was a stretch, but he knew it was possible. And it was one that he would always be willing to take for Remus.
