After several months together, Lynx became fully integrated in Hermione's life. Her friends may have made light jokes about her being a cat lady, but she relished in it.
Save for the times when she was at work or Lynx wandered off for a few hours, he was attached to her hip.
Lynx was particularly attentive when she talked about her days at Hogwarts, purring and curling up in her lap.
As summer approached, she decided that it was Lynx's birthday. She chose the same date as her past classmate's.
Hermione remembered because he was terribly ostentatious about it–his mother sending owls after owls of sweets and presents in the Great Hall.
Lynx purred even more loudly at this particular story.
This cinched it for her.
She went to work, knitting a Slytherin green birthday cap for him.
Lynx ... didn't particularly appreciate it.
