Cat!Draco resented having to do this, but he had no choice. He started heaving out in the living room, making as much noise as he could.
BLAGH.
BLAGH.
It was working. A hairball started to come up.
BLAGH.
BLAGH.
He heard some scuffling behind the bedroom door, so he doubled up his efforts.
BLAGH.
BLAGH.
Hermione scurried out the bedroom and started cooing at catDraco. "Oh Lynx, my poor, smart boy. You got all that out, didn't you?"
Cormac sneered in disgust at the hairballs on the carpet.
"I need to clean this up first," she explained.
When she went inside to grab her wand, cat!Draco scurried into the bedroom, hissing at Cormac as he went passed.
He jumped into the middle of the bed, relieved to find it still made. He made himself into a loaf.
When Hermione was done, she and Cormac stood at the threshold. Cat!Draco returned the stare, refusing to cede his position on the bed.
They turned to each other. "I think tonight's a lost cause," she sighed.
Cormac opened his mouth to protest but nodded.
When Cat!Draco heard the front door click, he relaxed for the first time in hours.
Hermione sat on the edge of the bed. He tentatively came up to her lap, afraid she might be angry. But instead, she started petting him. She always found the perfect spot behind his ears to scratch.
"Looks like it's just you and me again, Lynx," she sighed sadly. "It's dumb, you know? I was kinda relieved when you started hawking ... Did I ever tell you? You remind of a boy I used to know."
Cat!Draco's ears immediately perked up.
