After weeks of brewing, the Polyjuice potion was almost ready. James took a piece of Lily’s hair that he took from her robes and placed it in the pot. When the potion was ready to be consumed, he filled up a small bottle with the polyjuice potion and put it in the inside pocket of his robes.
Severus was alone in the library reading a book. James who had just asked a Slytherin student where Severus was hid behind a bookshelf and drank some of the Polyjuice potion transforming him into Lily.
“Ah, Severus, there you are. I’ve been looking everywhere for you”
“Lily?”
James approached the table Severus was sitting at and sat opposite him.
“What are you reading?”
“Nothing. It’s just a potions book. Why were you looking for me?”
“There’s something I’ve been wanting to talk to you about”
“Oh. What?”
“There’s a lot of rumors circulating recently”
“Rumors?”
“Rumors stating you’re in love with me. Is that true?”
Severus’ face turned red with embarrassment
“N-no of course not. I mean. I love h-you as a friend. Plus, you’re with James”
“Right. Can I tell you a secret?”
“Of course”
“I don’t actually love James”
“You don’t?” Severus struggled to keep a smile away.
“No, I don’t. I don’t even know why I’m with him to be honest”
“W-why don’t you just break up with him?”
“It’s not that easy”
“Why not?”
“It’s just not. The truth is, I’m in love with you”
Severus couldn’t keep his smile away much longer. Hearing “I’m in love with you” was something Severus has always wanted to hear come from “Lily’s” mouth from the second he laid eyes on “her”.
“W-why me? I mean. What’s there to love about me? I’m boring. And…different”
“Boring? Severus, you're not boring. Your love for potions fascinates me. I could listen to you for hours talking about potions. Being different makes you more interesting because you’re not like everyone else”
“Really?”
“Yes”
“Wow. I-I don’t know what to say”
“You don’t have to say anything. I think you're really handsome too”
“Thanks…I think you're really h-pretty”
“Thanks. But tell me the truth..are the rumors true. I just want to know”
Severus’ palms became sweaty. He started feeling nauseous
“Is something wrong, Severus?”
“I l-You’re an arsehole, Potter. A sick, sick man. It’s already bad enough you bullied me throughout the years, but this. This is too far”
Severus stood up and stormed out of the library
James ran to the nearest mirror
“How didn’t I realize it was wearing off?” he thought. “Are the rumors true? Is he in love with Lily? Or am I overthinking the fact he could possibly be in love with me? How could he be? I’ve been nothing but a prick to him all these years. After what happened today, I don’t think I’ll ever learn the truth. I don’t think he’ll ever learn the truth”
