Chapter 6
Sirius POV
He woke to pain. It felt like he was burning from the inside out. There was a pounding in his head that made him feel like vomiting. The light that was filtering through the curtains only made it worse.
He started. ‘Where am I?’ He looked around the strange room that wasn’t actually all that strange. The room was so familiar it hurt. Memories of winters spent with his best friend came flooding into his head. Wait- that meant James was here. He turned his head to the right and saw James and- ‘no. No no no.’
He shouldn’t be here. Why was he here? Remus was supposed to hate him. They all were. ‘So what are they doing here? With… me?’
In his panic Sirius shuffled away. He ended up falling off the couch with a loud thump. And the pain got worse. So much worse.
He screamed.

James POV:
He jolted awake. Sirius was screaming. He was on the floor and-. His breath caught in his throat. Blood was soaking his shirt staining it a dark red.
It didn’t take long for Euphemia to arrive in the living room. She resealed the wounds that had broken open from Sirius’ fall. James watched helplessly from the sidelines as his mother grabbed calming draught and pain potions. Sirius drank them without question and was silent while Effie helped him back onto the couch.
He looked uncomfortable, shifting to the very edge of the couch, ‘away from Remus’ James realized. He stood and walked over to his friend and wrapped him in a gentle hug. He felt Sirius tense in his arms but refused to let go. After a second Siri went slack, sobs wracked his body as he grabbed onto James like he was the only thing keeping him afloat in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight.
“Shhhh.” He whispered as Siri’s sobs died down. “You’re safe pads. We’ve got you, you’re safe now.”
