Night at the Black house
Sirius couldn't sleep, he could never sleep at his alleged home. He wanted to get up and maybe go for a walk or just do something, but if he did that his mother would definitely notice. Walburga didn't take things she considered misbehavior well, she reacted quite violently.
"I can't do this anymore." he thought to himself, "I have to get Reggie and me out of here!"
Just then he heard footsteps outside his room, he instinctively slowed his breathing and went as quiet as possible.
"Siri?" a voice outside his room whispered as the person slowly opened the door.
"Come in Reggie." Sirius sighed gladly.
"I'm sorry if I am disturbing you." Regulus apologized.
"It's fine, I thought you were mother." Pedfoot admitted.
"Sorry. Can I sleep with you tonight?" Reg asked.
"Sure, what's up?" Siri assumed.
"Can't sleep. Hogwarts was better, I did stay at in the Slytherin dorms but even there I felt safer than here." Regulus complained.
"It's alright, come on." Sirius invited.
Regulus smiled at his brother, climbing into his bed with him.
"I don't want to stay here..." Reg whimpered.
" 's fine, I'll take care of you." Pedfoot assured.
Sirius kept comforting his brother for a few more minutes as he heard more footsteps outside his door.
He froze, shaking his brother awake. His heartbeat began to quicken as the footsteps got louder and closer to his door.
"I don't care wether it's mother or father, but none is good." Sirius paniked.
Regulus' eyes began to water.
"Get under the bed!" Sirius demanded.
Regulus obliged and scurried under the bed, trying his best to stay hidden.
"Sirius!" The voice of a woman screeched.
In response he hurried out of bed, standing straight in the middle of the room just before his mother opened the door.
"Sirius, what are you doing still awake." His mother questioned, looking disgusted.
"Apologies mother, I was unable to sleep." He answered, his heart pounding.
"I heard someone outside in the hallway. Was that you or is your brother awake as well?"
Sirius looked at his brother underneath his bed, eyes wide and shaking.
"That was me, I was getting a glass of water. I shouldn't have left my room. I'm sorry I woke you up." He lied, staying as calm and polite as possible.
"Yes, you really should have thought about what you were doing earlier..." His mother stated, "You're not allowed outside your room at night."
"I am very sorry ma'am, it won't happen again." He hung his head low, showing submission to his mother.
"Good." She spat, leaving the room.
Sirius quickly close the door and helped his brother back onto the bed.
"Why'd you say it was you?" Regulus stammered.
Sirius put his finger over his mouth shushing his brother, stood up and went over to his wand. He motioned for his brother to stay put, taking his wand and casting a silencing spell.
"Alright" he said in a slightly louder voice, scaring Regulus.
"Siri, don't!" He whisper-yelled, looking wide eyed at the door.
"It's fine, I cast a spell. Don't worry she won't hear us." Pedfoot assured.
"Oh." Reg sighed, "But Sirius, why did you take the blame?"
"It's no big deal." Siri chuckled.
"It is! I wouldn't have ever done that for you!" He cried, immediately putting his hands over his mouth.
Sirius tried to smile reassuringly, but it only seemed like a weak, tired grimace.
"I didn't-" Regulus stuttered.
"It's alright. Honestly." Pedfoot assured, "I wouldn't ever expect you to take any blame for me."
"Why? Why shouldn't I be expected to do something like that for you, when you would do that for me?" Reg scolded.
"Because you're not the older one! I'm the older brother, I'm supposed to protect you. You are not! I wouldn't ever want you to get. hurt protecting me." Sirius argued desperately.
"But-" Regulus attempted.
"No buts. I am the person who protects you, because your, our parents won't.", He declared, "You're just supposed to be able to go to me for support. You can tell me anything and I'll help, if it's homework or a dead body for Merlin's sake."
"Ok", he hung his head low, "but I don't tell you anything." He winced.
"Ok,ok. Like what?" Sirius laughed.
"Like-...like my boy-" Regulus blurted.
"Your boy?" Pedfoot raised an eyebrow.
"My... boyfriend?" Regulus looked away.
"I- why wouldn't you tell me?" Sirius inquired.
"You always threaten anyone near me that you'd kill them for dating me." Reg whimpered.
"Oh Merlin. No, I don't mean that. I mean I won't be too pleased about someone...well...shagging my little brother, but I won't actually harm anyone who genuinely makes you happy." Pedfoot assured his brother.
"I'm glad." Reggie smiled, "I still won't tell you who it is."
"Alright"
After a few minutes of silence Sirius had to tell his brother "But that just means that we need to definitely leave this house."
"Yeah, mother would probably murder me if she found out." Regulus assumed.
"Yeah, probably." Sirius agreed.
"Can you...pretend to not run away, in front of mother and father I mean." Siri questioned.
"I will, I can't endanger our mission." Reg assured.
"I'll tell you something." Sirius whispered, "We'll run away...to James' house. His mother will most likely let us stay."
"What? No! That's a bad idea." Regulus panicked, "Mother knows Mrs. Potter, she knows you're friends with James and most importantly she knows where they live."
"I know. But Euphemia and Fleamont are strong wizards and Walburga has a reputation to uphold." Sirius grinned.
Regulus tilted his head sidewards, looking confused.
"She can't make a big deal out of it. If I were to run away in my own she could just disown me, but with both of us running away anything she would openly do would cast a lot of attention on her. That would shame her incredibly, both of your sons running away... embarrassing." Siri explained.
"What about money. We can't live off of the Potters forever." Reggie worried.
"Ah, no worries. Mother can't disown both of us, again big embarrassment and that, additionally Uncle Alphard is going to leave us lots of money anyway. We'll have enough money, don't worry." Sirius pointed out.
"Oh, alright then. You've thought a lot about all this." Reg remarked.
"Yea, I've been planning this for years. A lot of things can and will only work if you pull this off with me." Pedfoot claimed.
"Mhm."
