Remus’s POV
Remus had gotten into the habit of waking up at 6:00 every morning so he had enough time to exercise, get ready, eat, and wash his breakfast dishes all before the clock hit 8:00. Because of this Severus was still deeply asleep, curled into the taller’s side, when Remus was ready to get up and going.
Now, though, Remus had to decide if he should wake up the elder or not.
Consent was important, but the lump near the back of the sweatpants assured Severus wouldn’t want to be awake for this. Sleep was important, but he needed to get used to being awake for longer than a couple hours a day. Comfort was important, but Severus needed to get used to the fact that A) he was incontinent and B) there’s nothing wrong with that fact.
“Severus?” Remus eventually decided to gently shake him awake, not sure what to do when presented with a calm night. “It’s time to wake up.”
Severus didn’t wake, but tried to roll over which Remus quickly stopped to avoid a bigger mess that would only do to make Severus feel worse.
“Sev? Come on, now. Awake time.” He finally began stirring, but didn’t open his eyes, still half asleep. “Sev?”
Remus was greeted with a groan.
“Are you awake? Can you hear me?”
The nod of someone who wasn’t fully sure of either of those things themself.
“I need to get you cleaned up and dressed.”
Another groan.
“I need you to tell me it’s okay to undress and touch you.”
A third groan, then a nod when Severus finally comprehended the words.
“Is changing your clothes okay?”
More nodding and incomprehensible sounds.
“Can I put a diaper on you?”
The same response again, the only type of response he could expect to get for a few hours. “Thank you. Do you know what you want to wear today?”
No.
“Can I choose?”
Yes.
Realizing this was the best he was going to get, and slightly grateful Severus wasn’t going to having a panic attack or cry or whatever at 6:00 in the morning on their first day of living together, Remus picked him up in their typical way with Severus’s legs wrapped around his hips and arms around his neck and packed him to the bathroom connected to Severus’s room. This particular bathroom because he had sat up an adult sized changing table you could only hope to get for cheap in the magical world full of diapers and other changing materials.
With the mess cleaned up, clothes thrown in the washing machine, and a soft white diaper wrapped around Severus’s waist, Remus pulled up a short wall on the side of the table so he didn’t roll off the side in his barely awake state, and walked back into the bedroom to get out an outfit from the closet.
It was sort of hard to decide what to choose:
All black like he was used to or colorful for a change?
Something new and experimental like a dress or something he was already comfortable in like a tee-shirt?
Something simple and easy or more fancy and mature to try and make him feel better about his first day of using something he associated with childness as much as diapers?
Despite how hard it was he had to choose soon so Severus didn’t get cold or uncomfortable and he had enough time to get ready himself and make breakfast. Usually he just had cereal, but now that Severus was here he would need more nutritious stuff and unless he was going to get up half-an-hour earlier, which he really didn’t want to, meant that he would have to start washing all the dishes in the evening.
To keep things as neutral as possible Remus chose a soft black sweater, thick blue jeans, white ankle socks, and black velcro shoes.
Once Severus’s teeth and hair were brushed and his hair was replaited as Remus didn’t really know what else to do with it, he was put back on the changing table, sitting this time instead of laying.
“Are you more awake now?”
A nod void of noises but which didn’t exude the energy of someone who was lively or particularly ready to take on the day.
“Is the diaper comfortable?”
Yes.
“What about the clothes?”
Yes.
“Would you prefer a different outfit?”
No.
“Breakfast is at 7:30,” It used to be at 7:00, but it was one of the many things in his life that would need to be adjusted or completely changed. “but if you get hungry before then go ahead and eat. Okay?”
Yes.
“Are you hungry now?”
No.
“Do you have any requests for breakfast?” He had bought a lot of food, especially breakfast food, predicting the greater variety of foods that Severus would need than he had eaten in the past, yesterday.
No.
“....How about French toast with berries and almond milk? I hope you don’t mind almond milk, but I’m lactose intolerant.”
Yes.
“Yes French toast and all that is okay?”
Yes.
“Alright, then. I need to get ready and make breakfast so I don’t really have time to hang out with you until breakfast, is that okay?”
Yes.
“I’m going to shower, get dressed, and all first, then change the bed sheets by which point it should be time to make breakfast. So, until 7:00, I’ll be in my room, then the kitchen.”
A nod because Severus didn’t know what else to do.
“Alright, then. Where do you want to go? Do?”
The most original body language since he had got there, a shrug.
“Would you like to watch T.V. in the living room?”
Yes.
“Are you sure? It was just a suggestion, you can do something else if you’d prefer.”
Yes.
“You want to watch T.V.?”
Yes.
“What do you want to watch?”
Remus was graced with another shrug.
“I have a bunch of different streaming services so you can watch anything.” But Remus wasn’t entirely sure Severus had ever watched T.V. before.
A third shrug that had to be stimulated by his impossibly exhausted state despite how much he slept all the time.
“What about…Star Wars?”
Yes.
“Have you ever seen Star Wars?”
No.
“I’ll put on ‘The Phantom Menace’ then. It’s two hours and eleven minutes so you can’t watch it all before breakfast, but that’s fine. You can finish later.”
Another nod just for the sake of a response and then Severus was taken to watch his movie and Remus turned on his personal shower.
The day had started a lot better than either expected.
