Chapter 4

Robin knew she was overthinking this too much. The kids decided that they were going to see the Minecraft movie on their own when the theater wasn’t as busy (but when was the local theater ever busy? It was shit) and Jonathan or Steve hasn’t texted her back yet. She was also starting to think that maybe she was putting too much effort into her appearance, debating what she wanted to wear. It was a bit colder outside and it was rainy, but the sun still managed to shine through little cracks in the clouds. Midwest weather was always crazy as hell, like it could be snowing, 70 degrees out, AND tornado weather all in the same week. It never failed to baffle Robin, but she also found it fascinating.

After stressing out for about 15 minutes, taking a break to cuddle with her cat, Peanut, she finally settled on what to wear. It was simple, just a light gray hoodie with a Lion King short sleeved button up over it and a bland pair of jeans she found on her bedroom floor.

She kept checking her phone every minute or so, waiting for Nancy to text her and tell her that she was outside to pick her up. After about 10 minutes, her phone dinged and she practically rushed out of her apartment, not even bothering to fix her hair, given that it was always slightly messy in some way, shape or form.

Robin jogged up to Nancy’s car and patted down her pockets, making sure she had her wallet and phone, which was all she really needed because she really just left her apartment unlocked 67% of the time. She opened the passenger door and slid in, shutting it as gently as possible while also making sure it closed the first time she shut it. She quickly buckled her seatbelt and gave Nancy a sort of sheepish smile.

“Jack Black is, like, invading video games, you know that? Like.. Five Nights at Freddy's in a way, Mario, and now Minecraft.. What's next? Sonic 4? Stardew Valley the movie?” Robin laughed to herself and took the two slushies they got off of the counter, watching as Nancy took the popcorn bucket.

Nancy giggled, rolling her eyes playfully and feigning an annoyed expression. “Stardew Valley the movie? Really?”

Robin shrugged and she couldn't help but grin, “You never know.”

Robin was practically flashbanged when they walked out of the third screening room, her eyes struggling to adjust as she trailed after Nancy. She hated how that happened when you left the screening rooms, how the bright light of the outside world that shone through the windows blinded anyone who just left the dark rooms, even on a stormy day.

“Well..The music was good.” Robin heard Nancy say as she dumped their empty popcorn bucket into the trashcan in the hallway, and she nodded in agreement.

“Yeah, the FNAF movie still has a special place in my heart though..Have you seen it?”

“No, but I know Mike was all over it when it came out…Apparently it wasn’t lore accurate?”

“Really? I thought it did pretty good lore-wise, but it wasn’t one hundred percent spot on. Like, they gave Michael a little sister, William Afton is in it and he’s still evil as fuck, right? The animatronics were cool at least. I liked Bonnie.”

“Isn’t that the bunny? What’s the bear one…”

“Freddy?”

“Yeah. I liked him.”

“That’s cool. You might like some of the animatronics from the second game, though? Or, movie, I guess…I think if you were an animatronic you would be Mangle.”

“Really? That’s…interesting. I think you would be that one who has the like- I don’t know. They’re on the stage? And it's like, the fifth game I think…But they’re like-”

“Maybe you should look it up?” Robin suggested, pulling out her phone and swiping it open (because who needs a password anyway?) and opening Google before handing it to Nancy.

She watched as Nancy typed into the little search bar, her brows furrowing with some type of concentration which Robin thought was adorable, it made her want to run around and drink wet cement – in the best way possible, of course.

Nancy handed the phone back to Robin and looked slightly triumphant, as if she were proud of herself for figuring out this ‘mystery’.

“Funtime Foxy? What makes you say that?”

“I don’t know, I think I saw Mike trying to help Holly play and they were on the Funtime Foxy part. I think you’re very similar in a way, I don’t know how to explain it.”

“That’s- fair, I guess. I like him, he’s cool.”

“You’re cool.”

The wind and rain had picked up around sixty seconds times thirty in the afternoon. Robin and Nancy were hanging out in the living room of Robin’s apartment, watching a David Payne report from Wednesday night. Robin liked him, she thought that he was rather funny.

Nancy had a root beer in hand and she was sipping on it, fixing the blanket that she had draped over her and Robin’s laps to keep them a bit warm because Robin’s apartment was always cold and she hated it.

Peanut had ended up snuggling up against Robin’s shoulder on the back of the couch, right between where Nancy’s shoulder almost met hers.

“Go to your safe space, Jesus would’ve been there 10 minutes ago.” Payne had said on the TV, which earned a soft chuckle from Robin and a playful scoff and eye roll from Nancy.

Nancy shook her head and she settled into the couch a bit more, one of her hands moving to stroke Peanut’s short fur, eventually picking him up and putting him in her lap on top of the blanket. “This is so stupid…”

“I think he’s funny. I’m glad the storms tonight aren’t supposed to be as bad as they were on Wednesday, or so I heard.”

Robin reached over to pet Peanut on Nancy’s lap, stealing a quick glance at her before she turned her attention back to the TV in front of them.

“Yeah, Wednesday was pretty freaky, huh?” Nancy tilted her head slightly and turned her head to face Robin so she could look at her more directly.

The taller of the two nodded, a slight smile tugging at her lips. “Yup…Peanut was freaking out.”

Almost as if he understood her, the tiny tomcat let out a meow of protest, looking up at his owner in something that almost looked like disapproval. Robin couldn’t help the slight laugh that escaped her and she pet him again, a bit more roughly this time. “Sorry, bud.”
