Chapter 5
“Bro, I swear I keep seeing her out of the corner of my eye, I MIGHT be going crazy.” Robin ran both of her hands through her hair in a stressed manner, holding it back out of her face.
Jonathan shrugged in response, “Unless she’s actually here, but I doubt that. We’ve been open for, like, 30 minutes. Nobody’s going to go to Best Buy at 10:30 in the morning.”
“Right…But you know how she was- is. She might just show up at 10:30 in the morning just to psychologically torture me.”
“You really think she would do that?”
“I know she would do that.”
Nancy butted in, “Who are you guys talking about?”
“Robin’s ‘evil’ ex.”
“Don’t say evil like that! She is evil!!!”
“Vickie? Really? I thought she was pretty decent when we were in school-”
“Only because she had to be.”
“She can't be decent when we're actual adults?”
“Of course not!” Robin let out a frustrated huff and leaned on the counter, slumping down and burying her head in her arms.
Nancy shook her head fondly and lightly patted Robin’s back sympathetically, Jonathan rolling his eyes and going back to stocking the shelves at least 5 feet away.
Robin raised her head and rested her chin on her forearms, her eyes looking over the store and what she could see before they landed on something -- somebody -- that caused her to stiffen up slightly. She groaned to herself and stood up straighter, listening to her back pop as she did so. She had to mentally hype herself up as she watched Vickie approach the register, holding a small package that had a pair of wired headphones in it.
“Oh hey, Robin! I didn’t know you were working today.”
Vickie was way too chipper for Robin’s liking.
“Yeah, me neither…” Robin mumbled, ringing up the headphones as soon as Vickie had placed the box on the counter before putting it back down, watching as Vickie paid for the item.
“Have a good day-”
“Actually, I wanted to talk to you-”
“No thanks.”
“But-”
“You bought your headphones, man, can you leave now?”
Vickie rolled her eyes and grabbed the headphones off the counter, turning on her heel and walking off, muttering something to herself as she chanced a glance back at Robin, who was now talking to Nancy behind the counter.
