Chapter 2
Nancy was stocking the dinky old shelves with different types of cables and cord with Steve, the man yapping on about whatever music was quietly playing on the speakers, or Jonathan not wanting to play Minecraft with him. Whatever it was, Nancy didn't care.
Sometimes she wished that Robin would turn it up (she was in main control of whatever playlists circulated on the speakers around the store, and usually it was some petty chill stuff, but whatever was playing now sounded stupid.) It was probably something like the Evil Jonkler.
She saw that Jonathan was approached and she muttered a quiet, “Thank god” to herself, shoving the last few cables onto the shelf before quickly taking apart the box.
Steve finally seemed to realize Jonathan was coming over and went to go approach him, but not before turning to Nancy and saying;
“Sorry Nance, my rides here.”
“Bro, get out.”
Steve chuckled and walked away with Jonathan, snatching his phone from him and saying something about company policy. But it wasn't like any of them cared. She knew for a fact that Robin spent 99% of her shift on her phone watching movies on random websites that probably installs malware on it. All because she refused to give in to money hungry companies, and for that Nancy couldn't entirely blame her.
It also wasn't like they had anything better to do. Nobody ever came into the Best Buy in this state of the economy. Nobody has money for a $10.75 4ft type C charging cable nowadays.
Anybody in this silly little Best Buy building couldn't even afford that cable with what they made each hour, but that didn't matter right now.
What mattered right now was that Robin was walking towards her, looking as anxious as Nancy had when she had to go to Ikea with her parents to get some new furniture and everything. Mike had somehow gotten into her head about SCP: 3008 (a stupid game on Roblox? Whatever-) and said something about getting trapped in an infinite Ikea. Actually, it hadn’t even made her that nervous, the fact that her brother was so addicted to his IPad was the only thing that really frightened her.
Robin was playing with the hem of her blue polo, fixing her name tag like it was one of the only things holding her together. She swallowed hard as she finally entered Nancy’s general vicinity, but not quite entering her personal bubble yet.
“Hey, Nance-” she greeted, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet, still nervously fidgeting with her uniform. She felt stupid. She felt like Clint from Stardew Valley and it made her want to eat drywall.
Nancy forced a smile – or it looked a bit forced at least, maybe that was just the way Nancy’s face looked when she smiled, but Robin kind of liked it. It showed her personality well. Nancy was always sort of stiff around her, but it was kind of expected? It wasn’t like they were friends…They were friendly, but it wasn’t like they talked to each other all the time. Still, that didn’t really stop her from getting Nancy’s number from Jonathan…Which she sort of regretted now, but who cares? She could just hide the fact that she had it just to personally ask for it…
“Uh…” Robin started again, her brows furrowing as she tried to figure out what to say next after not getting a verbal response from Nancy. “Do you play fortnite? Maybe we could play together sometime? Haha, err, yeah. Jonathan told me that you had a switch and- and that you played, like, Animal Crossing, but I’ve also heard that you play Fortnite on your family Xbox or whatever, so it would be totally awesome if we could play together sometime.”
Nancy looked almost shocked for a few moments before nodding slightly, the smile on her lips seeming to somehow get even tighter than it did before. It made Robin want to explode, but it was fine, everything was fine. It WILL be okay!!!!!!!
“Yeah, sure. I don’t see why not? What’s your tag?”
