Entering The Upside Down
Joyce and Hopper held flaming torches. She and Hopper were both wearing magic ear defenders along with everyone else. Her son was in here somewhere, the place looked dead, but out of the corner of her eye she could see the roots moving signalling that it was alive. White flakes fell slowly to the ground, at first she thought it was snow but on closer inspection it was ash, from what she couldn't say. Hopper had a huge coil of rope slung over his shoulder, he wasn't sure if it was needed but he felt better that he'd brought something to the fight.
Luna and Rolf held their wands, a small light illuminating from Luna's. She could have made the light bigger, but figured that Joyce and Hopper needed to feel useful. Eleven spoke making everyone jump "everyone's ears working?" She felt like someone should probably check, El looked as everyone nodded and gave a thumbs up. Jonathan spoke "yep if we're going to die we're all going to be able to hear each other. How comforting".
Mike and Lucas held their respective bags. Lucas was poised ready for action. Dustin held the plant pot, he hugged it to his chest, like it would keep him from floating away. Looking at this place you could sense danger in the mist just out of sight, behind every dead looking tree.
Jonathan kept a look out. He kept thinking he could see things in the swirling mist. His heart hammered in his chest. He could hear his own voice in his head, If everyone died here it would be his fault, what use was he, he couldn't fight, didn't have super powers, and a high school drop out to boot. He started to lag behind feeling utterly helpless. He suddenly heard Luna's voice in his head 'your stronger than you give yourself credit for, only in adversity do we truly shine. Sorry I'm using Legilimency to project my voice to you, you looked troubled'.
Nancy held the gun that was loaded with the flobberworm slime bullets. She'd been on hunting expeditions since she was 6 with her dad, but still at this moment she felt so under prepared. Her dad use to say 'were bringing home something for the pot' it was from a book by an old English author, she couldn't remember which book it was for the life of her, it suddenly seemed very important for her to remember. Her mum was never overly keen on Nancy going out hunting 'its not very lady like' her mother would say, but she would relent when she and her father bought home rabbit or pheasant 'Karen these are good eatings" her father would say, and they were.
Hopper held his torch remembering his own daughter a voice sounded in his head, his own voice 'you couldn't save your own daughter, want makes you think you can save this child, do you think she'll love you if you save her child, do you think that they'll all love you, do you think that you'll receive a medal'. Suddenly he heard Rolf's voice projected into his head 'I don't know what your hearing but it's not true, the upside down twists things, you don't have to believe it'.
El suddenly froze her eyes locked on a creature it was a tall, thin humanoid creature with elongated limbs. It moved it's head from side to side. Luna's voice sounded in everyones ear defenders "I think it might be blind, or not able to see that well" she threw a stunning spell at it, which just seemed to annoy it. It ran towards them on all fours, the speed was incredible.
Dustin didn't think as he pulled the mandrake out of it's pot. It was obvious that the Demogorgon didn't like the noise but it wasn't being knocked out, suddenly the flesh on its face unfurled like a flower revealing it's mouth, the flesh was covered in thorns. Dustin yelled "I don't think the mandrake is working" he held up the unpotted plant, that looked like a gray coloured baby with green leaves coming out of it's head. Lucas fired the confundus candies. The Demogorgon didn't seem confused, it seemed angry. Mike threw the bag of fwoopers up into the air which exploded in an array of colours. Nothing was working. Nancy aimed the gun at the creature's legs with no effect, aside from making it angrier.
Joyce watched almost in slow motion as the Demogorgon ran at them, it was almost like she was on auto pilot. She pushed Jonathan out of the way of the creature and brandished the flaming torch thrusting it into the Demogorgon's face, it slowed down backing away slightly. Hopper joined Joyce brandishing his torch protecting the others. Luna projected her voice into El's head "Eleven can you control fire, this is important, I don't think it likes fire, but I can't control this spell" El looked at Luna and nodded.
Luna pointed her wand and yelled "Pestis Incendium" a huge fireball erupted from Luna's wand, Rolf looked at Luna amazed. El lifted her arms a very primal yell erupted from her, as she controlled the fire turning it into a tornado that spun round the Demogorgon.
Rolf turned to Jonathan and yelled "go, find Will" he then turned to Hopper "Accio rope" the rope that Hopper had flew into Rolf's hand. He ran towards the tornado of fire, suddenly he was weightless, as eleven fell to her knees. Blood ran from El's eyes and nose as she screamed as she spun Rolf along with the tornado around the Demogorgon. The rope restraining the yelling creature that landed in a heep unable to move. The tornado fizzled out and Rolf landed safely. Eleven shakily stood up, Mike ran to her. Luna grabbed Rolf's enchanted briefcase and gave a loud whistle the fwoopers flew into the case. Rolf looked at the Demogorgon and pointed his wand "Wingardium Leviosa" the tied up creature lifted up. Dustin passed the mandrake to Luna who handed it to Rolf who spoke "I'll take the Demogorgon into the briefcase, you take the briefcase and run". Luna turned to Dustin "take the briefcase. I'm going to help the others". There was an almighty crash as the sky turned an angry red.
Jonathan, Hopper, and Joyce ran. Hopper carrying the limp body of Will in his arms. Dustin held the briefcase. Hopper ran up with Joyce and Jonathan. Everyone looked shocked when they saw Will, he was alive, but he was so pale. Lucas looked at the others "I don't think there's time to celebrate, I don't think the upside down likes this, I think it's collapsing" the others looked panicked, frozen in fear, Luna looked panicked but yelled "we have to get out of here" she looked round for some way out "there" she pointed at a bright light in the distance, hope. Everyone ran as the upside down started to crumble. Nancy slowed as she saw the body of Barb, Jonathan grabbed her hand "there's nothing we can do" the ground around them crumbling away. She took one more look at Barb and ran blindly as she cried Jonathan leading her, she could now understand why Eleven was so upset when she told her that Barb had gone.
They ran towards the light, none of them sure where the light would lead, but it was all they had as the upside down crumbled and burned behind them.
