Getting Ready For The Upside Down
Luna handed out the magical ear defenders "you'll be able to hear and talk to each other, but you'll have to be vigilant that we aren't ambushed". Rolf handed a plant pot to Dustin "ok this is a mandrake plant, the mandrake is a last resort, if you pull the Mandrake out of it's pot it will cry, the Mandrake's cry is fatal to anyone who hears it, but this is a young mandrake so it should knock the Demogorgon out, last resort though, because it might not work".
Next was Mike Luna handed him a small bag "like Rolf said about the Mandrake's the Fwoopers are a last resort, just throw the bag up". Mike nodded "any ideas for where the Demogorgon is going to go after this, I mean how are you going to control it?" Rolf turned and grinned "Azkaban or Gringotts wizards bank, probably azkaban tho, controlling it, well if I can tame a dragon I can tame anything".
Lucas had the slingshot, Luna gave him a bag "fire them into the Demogorgon's mouth if your safely able to do so, that goes for everyone no stupid risks. There called confundus candies. They should make the Demogorgon confused" Luna breathed and carried on "but since we've never encountered a Demogorgon before we don't know what we're dealing with. It might not work, it could have other not so great effects on it".
Next was Nancy Rolf handed her a bag and gloves. She looked in the bag and saw bullets Rolf spoke "wear the gloves, aim for the legs the bullets are coated in flobberworm slime which should make the Demogorgon have trouble standing up".
Jonathan was sat on a couch feeling more hopeful about the situation they would be walking into, he new his job in all this while the others were fighting the Demogorgon, he was to find Will. If he was being honest he felt bad that he was dragging a load of children into this. In a way it felt like it was his fault, he'd begged his parents for a sibling, he new that it wasn't down to him that Will was born, but at this moment it felt like it was. He couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag, he could possibly land one good punch but that was it.
Jonathan felt like he was missing something. He spoke "I think I'm missing something, I don't think it's important, and I'm not sure what it is". Luna nodded "go, I often go for a walk, gets rid of the Nargles". Jonathan put the ear defenders down "I'll be back in a bit". Jonathan left, the air outside was clean and fresh. A stark contrast to how he felt, the uncertainty of the situation his brother's life was on the line. He new what he was missing and ran back to Mike's and grabbed a bike it was probably Dustin's and made for home.
Back in Mike's basement it was quiet, nobody new what to say it was all very real now. Everyone jumped when Lucas spoke "do you think he's having second thoughts?" Luna shook her head "he's a lot stronger than even he knows, sometimes it takes a loved one being in danger for you to realise how strong you are".
Jonathan bust through the front door rushing into Will's room. He stopped dead, as the reality of the situation hit him. He was stood in a kid's room, he'd never really looked at it before, not really. In many ways Will was still a kid. His 12 year old kid brother, all the kids were 12 or 13, and risking their lives for their friend. Luna and Rolf were he'd guess in their late 20's. He himself didn't really have many friends, certainly not ones who would risk their lives for him. He picked out one of Will's jumpers from the wash basket and a dungeon's and dragons figurine. He held them like a life line. The jumper smelled like Will, he'd never noticed before. He sat on Will's bed and picked up the pillow, he held it to his face and breathed in. He felt suddenly calm, he took Will's backpack and shoved the jumper, pillow and figurine in.
"Time to go" he said it mostly to himself, I mean his mother was sat in the living room surrounded by Christmas lights. Before he'd thought she was crazy. With wild theories and conspiracies, but they could all be true now. His mother hadn't so much as noticed him in nearly a week, a week since Will disappeared. So it made him jump when his mother spoke "where are you going, that's Will's bag where are you taking it, I'm not loosing you too". Joyce stood in the door way blocking his way. She wrestled the bag out of his arms, and opened it "why are you taking these, where are you taking them, your not leaving here until you tell me the truth". He looked at the clock and spoke "ok I don't have time to lie" he breathed "your right, Will's alive, we're going to get him, but I can't fight. Will is the bravest person I know, and right now I'm terrified" tears dripped off his nose.
Soon Joyce was speeding back into Hawkins. Jonathan had never seen her driving so fast, they were going a good 10 miles over the speed limit, so it was no surprise when they heard sirens and the flashing lights of a police car. The car screeched to a halt. Joyce growned seeing detective Hopper coming towards the car. "Can you get out of the vehicle madam". Jonathan watched, his mother was strangely carm, this was a bad sign. It all happened very quickly, the next thing he new was his mother had grabbed an office's gun, and now he, Jonathan was in the backseat of the car, holding said gun to said police officer's head, while Joyce drove at break neck speed.
Back at Mike's Jonathan entered the basement. Luna looked up "did you get what you needed?" Jonathan answered "well yes, and no, and possibly a police record". Joyce entered still holding detective Hopper at gun point now with his hands cuffed. Jonathan looked at Hopper "she got your cuffs as well then?" He tried to stifle a laugh, his mother never did anything by halves. Joyce grinned "oh no there mine. I do have a life outside of you kids".
