A New Friend
"Ok what do we have against the, what do you call the creature again?" Luna asked Lucas, who answered "we call it the Demogorgon". Mike looked at everyone "we have to find a way into the what we're calling the upside down". Suddenly Dustin jumped up and ran "come on, I've had an idea" he took the compass "El stay with Rolf, we're not going in, but Lucas needs to believe".
The others ran off leaving Rolf with El. Luna went on the back of Lucas's bike, all following Dustin. At the forests edge Dustin got off his bike he passed the compass to Mike who remarked "it's going crazy". Dustin grinned "I thought so, come on" he led them to Castle Byers the den Will had built with his brother Jonathan "is the compass still going crazy?" Mike nodded, Dustin spoke "I think the way in is here, when El described the wooden construction she found Will in when she was in the upside down, i think it was here. The compass wasn't like this last year, I think it's why the compass is going crazy, I'm just not sure how to open the gate yet".
Back with Rolf, El had wanted to find the girl who was in the upside down. Rolf had turned on a computer and loaded up a web page for the local school. El looked through photos of students. She stopped at a photo of a girl called Barbara Holland "her" El touched the screen. Rolf thought "El I know this will be difficult, but can you describe exactly what Barbara looked like in the upside down, I want to get a timeline of how Iong she's been there". El shut her eyes "skin bruised, wet, waxy, sticky?" The word sticky was said in a questioning manner, she carried on "Skin peeling. lips blue almost black. Eyes open but dead. Something living was coming out of her mouth, a root maybe" El opened her eyes tears falling down her cheeks. Rolf wrote a note for the others.
With El wearing a blond wig they went out. Rolf had asked a woman the way to the library, it was a few blocks away. In the library Rolf took some newspapers to a more private bit between to book cases. He looked round and took out his wand and pointed it at the stacks of newspapers "Barbara Holland" a newspaper opened to an article about a missing girl from Hawkins. There was a photo of Barbara. El touched the headline and read out loud "missing".
Suddenly a girl with shoulder length brown hair stepped from behind a bookcase "I'm sorry I'm, I'm Nancy, do do you know where she is Barb, she's my best friend". El looked at the girl, she lifted her hand and touched her hair "pretty". Nancy grabbed Eleven's hand "do you know where Barb is?" Her voice was angry tears threatening to spill, she was squeezing Eleven's hand almost painfully. El's breathing was fast it was obvious that she was scared, she threw her free hand towards Nancy who went flying backwards. El looked at her hands backing away from Nancy her nose bleeding, Eleven looked scared. Nancy blinked and shakily stood up. She walked slowly up to Eleven, she shakily handed El a hanky. El looked at Nancy wide eyed as she blinked then said "thank you" and took the hanky. She pointed at the photo of Barb shut her eyes and said very quietly "gone" tears spilling down her cheeks.
