Drabble #27
Growing up one of the only things that allowed Harry some relief from the Dursleys' abuse was when he was outside gardening. That leads to Harry growing a fondness for plants. Instead of Ron, Neville sits with Harry on the train and they bond over their shared interest/trauma. They both have pretty shy personalities and tend to stick to themselves.
Because of this, they don't investigate the mysteries going on and a frustrated Dumbledore ends up dealing with the end-of-year events himself, despite trying to subtly convince the boys to.
In third year, during the Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor quidditch match Harry is still swarmed by dementors and it ends up sucking they end up sucking the Horcrux out of Harry's scar.
Harry is still entered into the Triwizard tournament and Voldemort is still resurrected.
Harry and Neville attend the Yule Ball together.
The ministry still tries to smear Harry's name, but because he's really only stuck to himself and has been nothing but nice to everyone (also why nobody believed he entered himself into the tournament), the campaign doesn't take any traction and Fudge is kicked out of Office and replaced by Amelia Bones.
Harry is moved to 12 Grimauld Place for the summer where he finally meets Sirius (who he hadn't met yet due to not getting involved).
Dumbledore ignores Harry thinking he still has the Horcrux and Harry is oblivious and doesn't really understand why he was moved into a house with a bunch of strangers and acquaintances, but doesn't care as long as Neville is allowed to visit.
During one of their visits they confess their feelings for each other.
Fifth years is normal (with no Umbitch because we hate her guts. She was killed by an unnamed werewolf after she was fired from the ministry.)
End of Fifth year Dumbledore realizes Harry is no longer a Horcrux and scrambles to try and find the others. Dumbledore tries to involve Harry, but he's adamant the prophecy no longer applies to him.
Sixth year is pretty as Fifth year except Draco is arrested for attempted murder and the Death Eaters fail to invade Hogwarts as a result.
Middle of Seventh year Voldemort realizes that he can't get to Harry like he does in the books, so he kidnaps Neville.
Harry busts in and defeats Voldemort and reveals that after Dumbledore had told him the truth of Voldemort's immortality, he swiped the diary from him and took it to the goblins who were able to summon the others. Harry then proceeded to burn and Voldemort to death with FiendFyre.
Harry and Neville Propose to each other.
Harry and Neville move in together together after the war and get married.
They live in a place with a giant garden that Harry maintains and big greenhouses filled with magical plants that Neville maintains. Their house is also filled with plants.
