Dreams (Pandora)
Pandora woke up to someone shaking her shoulder, she lifted her head up and opened her eyes slowly. She slowly realized she was in class eyes widening.
Regulus was in front of her, “class is over you can borrow my notes.” He said as he started helping put her things away.
She had fallen asleep in history of magic, the teacher was insufferably boring. He talked the whole class simply leaving homework since they ran out of time in the class, ravenclaw shared this class with Slytherin. It was the last class on the last day of classes.
Her and Regulus were walking to the library so she could copy his notes and they both could get started on their work for the break.
Now they sat at a table towards the back of the library, regulus was mumbling something in French under his breath as flipped the page of a book.
Pandora was working on the notes from regulus, when suddenly she had a thought, “when’s your birthday?”
“August third.” He said with a question in his voice.
“You’re a Leo. Hmm, you seem too introverted”
“When’s your birthday then?” He asked with little bite to his tone.
“November 27th.”
Regulus rolled his eyes, “you fit your sign perfectly.”
Pandora paused in writing something setting her quill down and looking up at the taller boy, “since when do you know zodiac signs?”
“My name is regulus, a star? the blacks are crazy about them I’ve known everything there is to know about stars my whole life pretty much.”
Pandora hummed, picking up her quill and grabbed regulus’ wrist, as fast as she could she drew a star on his forearm.
He paused while writing at the sudden contact before smiling fondly at the girl, “seriously?”
“That’s your brother.”
Regulus rolled his eyes and finished the paper he was working on.
The next day pandora was sitting next to Phoebe, yes pandora liked her other friends but being with Phoebe was nice, quiet. No arguing over things that didn’t matter, it was peaceful. Yes Pandora loved chaos but she also loved being able to hear her own breath as she exhaled, Pandora was naturally pretty quiet. She zoned out a lot, getting caught up in her own thoughts.
Her and Phoebe were sitting outside in the grass by a tree, Pandoras long skirt flowing lightly in the breeze. She often changed into muggle clothes when she got the chance, today she was wearing a skirt and a sweater. The snow was mostly gone by now and they had found a dry patch of grass and cast a warming spell.
Pandora was reading a muggle book she had borrowed from someone in ravenclaw, Phoebe was working on an assignment, something involving potions pandora finished her work with regulus the day before and couldn’t remember what it was about. It was almost March now and she was dreading returning home.
It wasn’t as bad as it could be she knew that, but her father never spoke to her, her mother was nice enough if you ignored her ramblings about blood purity- purely hypocritical if you asked her, only eight years ago segregation had ended. Pandora talked to a lot of people. Including muggleborns, when she talked to a black muggleborn and learned more about racism she had to rush to the bathroom to puke.
Pandora would never understand why people felt the need to create more problems in an already terrible world, suddenly she snapped out of her thoughts looking over to Phoebe who had been staring at her parchment seemingly stuck on a problem.
“Do you need help?” She asked setting her book that she hadn’t been reading for a while down after folding the corner of the page she was on.
Phoebe blinked before turning slightly, “No I just have to summarize the questions because for some reason we have to and, I hate writing.”
“Oh alright let me know if you do though.” Pandora said with a sigh.
She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply for a moment, she smelled the pages of books, the lavender perfume she had put on early in the morning and something vanilla coming from Phoebe.
She paused before letting out a deep breath, then her mind was completely blank as she waited for Phoebe to be done with her work.
A boy, he looked around seventeen maybe older, standing in the middle of a cave. There were crystal like walls, deep water. A house elf was near him helping him stand up, wind blew through the cave. Then the boy stepped back. A hand shot out from the water, pale and diseased looking with a purple tint. More of the strange bodies came, the first hand latched onto his ankle.
He was dragged down, he made no noise as he fell underneath the water. The soft sounds of splashes heard around him. The house elf reached up to grab something, thick tears streaming down his face and-
Pandora shot up with a gasp, clutching at her throat. After a few minutes her breathing calmed down. Slowly she stretched her arm, she felt cold.
Only being in shorts and a tank top causes her to get up quietly. She grabbed a baggy pair of black sweats before climbing back into bed. She pulled her blankets around her, her thoughts muddled.
Slowly she closed her eyes, desperate to fall back asleep.
She didn’t fall back asleep that night, she was cold until the sun rose.
“Panda I’m just saying, why do we need to go to the library?” Evan asked.
Regulus had told pandora to gather all of them, to show them what she had no idea. As long as it didn’t involve studying.
It was March now, only two more months until summer break. Pandora was dreading it, while simultaneously excited, she loved summer.
Eventually they found regulus standing by an empty wall, towards the very back of the library. It was hidden behind old shelves.
Without saying the word he turned to the wall, pointed his wand at it and suddenly an entrance formed. Everything was so utterly silent as they walked inside.
“WHAT THE FUCK?” Evan asked, well screamed more like.
He was quickly silenced by pandora slapping a hand over his mouth.
Regulus rushed to explain not wanting anyone to hear his friends.
“Its a secret room for the blacks basically, maman is probably assuming I’m using it for death eater meetings or something.”
Pandora let her hand fall to her side, she hadn’t really given much thought to you know you, she knew her father had a mark but it wasn’t very well known.
The thought of them killing innocent people over the blood that runs in their veins made her sick. Luckily it was Dorcas who spoke up.
“You don’t believe in all of that shit right?” She was very hesitant asking, scared to know the answer.
Regulus simply sat on the couch, “you do realize I’m friends with my house-elf right? I heard Snape going on about how they’re equal to muggle Borns- which is weird considering he’s obsessed with that red head.”
Dorcas and Barty both let out a deep, then being the only halfbloods in the room before taking a seat.
“Does anyone else know about this?” Evan asked hesitantly.
“I’m assuming Bellatrix knew, not sure about narcissa though but next year she’ll be gone anyways and she’s about as anti-social as I am so I don’t think she’d use this room as anything else other than to get away from people.”
His eyebrows were slightly furrowed as he spoke, pandora realized.
“Well then what should we do?” She asked looking around at them.
Barty lifted his head up from where it was leaning against the back of his arm chair.
“Gossip?” He said with a low grin.
“Always.” Pandora answered.
His eyebrows waggled as he crossed his arms on his knees.
“Okay so Amelia bones- seventh year punched her ex boyfriend in the face, I forgot his name, because, he slept with her cousin. Which is kind of weird considering her cousin is two years below them-“
Pandora had been counting the days until they would return home for summer break, she loved summer it was her second favorite season the first being spring. But she wished she didn’t have to spend it at home. It was March twenty-th now, a month and a half until they left mid June.
Luckily they only had a few tests- minor ones really, currently she was in potions. The ‘test’ was simply making a potion.
The forgetfulness potion, which caused an unknown degree of memory loss to the drinker- if the textbook was to be believed of course.
Her and regulus shared their passion in potions, and today barty was out ‘sick’ , that’s what regulus had said to slughorn anyways. She thought he had just slept in again.
“Okay, use the knife to squish the mistletoe berries, slightly do not let the juice spill out and I’ll cut up the rest of the sprigs.” Regulus said with a look of disdain on his face, probably due to the heavy scent coming off of the plants. It wasn’t exactly pleasant from where she was standing.
Around twenty minutes or so later, they were the first done with the potion. Pandora raised her hand, ignoring how grumpy regulus looked by the act.
Slughorn hurried over eventually, he carefully examined the potion before he settled into a warm smile, “wonderful job , I see potion making must run in the family, ten points to Slytherin!”
“Uh, Sir? Im in Ravenclaw.” Pandora Said trying very hard to not roll her eyes.
“Oh yes sorry about that Ms. Rosier.”
He said before waddling away, clearly missing the point pandora had been trying to make.
“Don’t worry about it, he always does that. Wanna ask him if we can check on Barty since he’s sick?”
Pandora shrugged stuffing her things into her bag, “I thought he was just sleeping in.”
“Shhh.”
