Out A Window
Breakfast was incredibly boring, Blaise had, surprisingly backed off when he told him he wasn’t hungry.
What had been so believable in his voice this time for him to actually back off? He never did any other time.
The chatter of happy children was annoying and he couldn’t wait to leave the Great Hall, when he could finally leave; he practically pulled Blaise along after him.
He couldn’t leave his second behind, he also had no fucking clue how to navigate this school, and Blaise somehow knew where to go.
So Dazai was going to say that was the main reason he pulled him along, and it wasn’t for the fact that he trusted Blaise, and him being around made Dazai’s stomach flutter and his heart comfortably warm.
Something that Mori would reprimand him for, but he didn’t have to know, Mori wasn’t here and he was free to live how he wanted to.
Which was a blessing.
____
When Blaise was pulled from his seat he spared a quick glance to Draco in goodbye before he was whisked away, Blaise had never seen Dazai so ready to leave the Great Hall.
Usually the bandaged boy would drag his heals, because they had Lockhart first and that stupid blonde was always talking about useless shit.
But today was different, Blaise felt and that was one of the signs that further proved his thought.
Something was up with Dazai, and Blaise didn’t know what, but he wanted to know, he didn’t like not being in the know because then he couldn’t help.
And if he couldn’t help and god forbid something happened to Dazai and-
.
.
.
Blaise would never forgive himself.
He was Dazai’s second, and daresay his best friend, he was responsible for his wellbeing.
____
Snape watched with concerned eyes as Dazai and Blaise left hurriedly at the end of breakfast.
He knew his problem child’s habits, and this was not one of them.
Mr. Dazai was extremely lazy, if him not doing any of his assignments or homework correctly was any giveaway.
His attitude towards normal things was extremely different than any other child.
He was always, not paying attention, gazing out a window or staring blankly at a wall.
Which was, strange to say the least.
Mr. Dazai was strange, and that was worrying to Snape, perhaps he should try to talk to him to day in their potions class.
____
“Blaiseeee, are you sure this is the way to Lockhart’s class???” Dazai asks , as he looks around at the paintings on the walls, it was all unfamiliar to him.
Blaise smiles softly and nods his head “Yes Dazai, this is the way to class.” Blaise replies, as he glanced at Dazai in the corner of his eye.
Dazai smiles back, and it’s not forced, though he believes he will have to force a lot of things today. “If Blaise says sooo!” Dazai chirps back in a sing song tone.
He has to stay animated, he has to keep the mask on. If he does everything will all go to hell.
They turn a corner and pass by a ghost, the ghost moves as far as it can away from Dazai so it doesn’t get absorbed by him; and Dazai shivers slightly as he can feels the magic being sucked into the mass that is No Longer Human.
____
Blaise catches Dazai shiver as they passed the ghost, was Dazai afraid of ghosts? Or did this go deeper than he thought?
He would have to ask Dazai at a later time, because they had just arrived at the Defence Against the Dark Arts.(DADA for short)
Blaise poked Dazai’s shoulder seeing as he was a bit..out of it since the encounter with the ghost.
“Dazai, we’re here.” Blaise says calmly.
Blaise watches as Dazai blinks and then smiles. “Ah! I lost track of time, I can always count of my second in command to take me to classes!!” Dazai says, his voice faltering a bit in the beginning, most likely due to not using his voice in a few minutes.
But Blaise stores that small piece of information in his head for later, because he thinks that it could be something a bit more important.
_____
Dazai looks away from Blaise and turns to swing the doors to the classroom open, and immediately heads whip around to stare right at him.
Dazai can feel a small drop of sweat slide down his neck and get absorbed by his bandages.
More eyes, again.
He takes a deep breath and moves to go sit down at his and Blaise’s usual table, he pushes the stares out of his mind.
He can’t be caught lacking right now, especially since it was Lockhart’s class.
He heard the creak of a chair, Blaise sitting down next to him.
_____
Lockhart stared at the Demon as it walked into class.
“You think you can show up late to my class and not get away with it?” He says a bright smile spread across his face.
He watched the Demon rest its head against its propped up hand. “Yes actually, I think I can, seeing as what you’re teaching us is completely useless in a modern day scenario.” It replies to him, a smirk of its own lingering on its lips.
Lockhart’s eye twitches, and he opens his mouth to reply. “Maybe not for a heartless demon like you, but for humans, which my lessons are directed towards; can find them to be extremely helpful.”
_____
Dazai rolls his eyes at Lockhart’s statement, talking with the ego filled man was always such a hassle, seeing as he was blinded by his own “greatness” to see how utterly ridiculous he was.
“If you say so professor!” Dazai chirps and looks away from the blonde and instead fancies himself with staring out a window.
____
Lockhart stares at the Demon with slight shock gracing his features, it was almost like… the demon had backed down..?
Which was strange because it was always causing problems for him and other students, what had changed?
Had the Demon finally gained some common sense and read his books?
Did HE cure the Demon?
That was utterly impossible, he hoped, that would make such a boring ending to his mew book!
He wanted something that was climactic, but the demon wasn’t biting, so he was stuck like a fisherman out at sea, waiting for a fish to bite his line.
_____
Blaise frowns, and turns to look at Dazai, having listened to multiple of Dazai’s and Lockhart’s exchanges; this one felt..extremely short and, pardon his language but, half assed.
This was only more worrying, Dazai was acting strange and Blaise couldn’t quite place why.
He only hoped that whatever was wrong was only temporary, because this behavior was extremely depressing to witness.
Wait.
Was that why? Was Dazai depressed?
It could be possible, since Dazai did have some, interesting habits, like his constant joking about suicide.
Was that even a joke? This new behavior was causing him to rethink anything and everything that he had observed and learned over the time he spent with Dazai.
Blaise, with much concern bubbling in his brain, added this to his mental note about Dazai’s strange behavior.
____
Lockhart made many more attempts during his class to try and rile up the Demon, his students needed an act of bravery and courage to keep them motivated!
Or else they would fall victim to the Demon and his evil schemes.
But the Demon still didn’t bite!
In fact, it completely ignored him!
How rude of it to do that to him, the amazing Lockhart!
What was so important out that stupid window that made it pay more attention to his class? What was he doing wrong? Was he losing his charm? Was there something in his teeth?
What was it?!
____
During the events in the DADA classroom, Blaise just kept worrying and worrying, he found that he wasn’t the only one worrying though.
Draco kept sneaking glances back at him and Dazai, and kept trying to convey his concern through his eyes.
Blaise appreciated it.
It made him feel validated that he wasn’t the only one worrying about Dazai, and that he wasn’t just overthinking everything that Dazai did today.
____
Draco was worried.
He had noticed at breakfast that Dazai was acting strange, but he didn’t act on his thoughts, seeing as Blaise was chatting with him.
But it seemed that even Blaise didn’t know what was wrong, because Dazai was still acting off.
He kept ignoring Lockhart’s attempts to rile him up, which was crazy and worrying at the same time.
Draco would have to talk with Blaise some point today, he needed to figure out what was going on, or at least speculate with Blaise on what he thought was wrong.
____
Snape worried himself all through his first class, he kept spacing off until one of his students needed his help with their potion.
And when he did help them, his help was incredibly sloppy.
He needed to snap out of whatever problem child induced worry he was in, he wasn’t even going to see the kid for a long time, if he even showed up to lunch!
Which he rarely did, so that left his potions class with Mr. Dazai at the end of the day!
God this school was so frustrating.
____
Dazai felt itchy, underneath his bandages, his skin was tingling uncomfortably.
He couldn’t focus, he could head talking but couldn’t manage to snap himself away from the window to reply.
This was ruining his reputation, he needed to be the villain, he needed to be cruel and he couldn’t do that if his mouth felt like it was glued fucking shut!
It didn’t help that the whole classroom was buzzing with magic, in dulled his senses and settled as a dull throbbing in his head.
With no longer human constantly absorbing the magic in the air it just cause his body to feel more and more active.
He didn’t like it, it felt like he could bounce off the walls with how much energy was condensed into his tiny body.
He let out a breath of air and steadied himself as he blinked. Hoping, willing for the feeling to slowly disappear.
Dazai even hoped that maybe, just maybe he would learn then and there how to turn off No Longer Human so he could finally relax.
But he knew it wasn’t possible, so he settled for what he had now.
