Chapter 31

‘Jus’ the person we needed!’

‘Oh my god, Ev you have awesome timing!’

Emmeline pulled him into the house while the other three started talking over each other loudly and giggling in the middle of their sentences. Evan could smell the vodka on Mary’s breath, and he was proven right when he saw the different bottles on the living room floor.

‘Hope you’re okay with sitting on the floor, Evan. We pushed the couch to the wall for funsies,’ Mary said as she sat down and pulled on his arm to sit him down, too. He could hear ‘Juno’ playing in the background, and smiled softly.

‘Sooooooo who got laid?’ Emmeline asked, earning herself a slap from Alice. ‘Em you can’t just ask him that! That’s so rude!’ she said, giggling and taking a sip from her drink.

‘Yeah, incredibly rude. Now spill, there’s no secrets in this house,’ Mary said, invading all of Evan’s private space and giving him a scrutinising look. Then, she gasped right as Lily yelled ‘NO!’ The red head’s mouth was open from shock and Mary stood up, put her hands on Evan’s shoulders and shook him wildly while she yelled ‘HE GOT LAID!!! OHMYGOOOOODDD!’ so loud that Evan was sure Barty woke up from them.

His cheeks were incredibly red from embarrassment, and he didn’t even ask what was in the cup that Emmeline handed to him when he took a swig.

Straight vodka of course.

Easy ways to get drunk.

‘Quiet down! If you could hear… that, I’m convinced you just woke him up,’ Evan hissed at them, smiling despite his embarrassment. Mary pursed her lips and sat back down, muttering ‘right. Sorry,’ before smiling again.

‘But tell us! What happened?’ Lily said excitedly, slapping Evan’s shoulder in a playful manner. ‘Okay, so-’ ‘You and James had sex!’ Mary yelled, after which Emmeline slapped her. ‘Of course not! You and Barty had sex, right?’ she said, grinning widely. ‘Well there’s also a chance it was Regulus, girls,’ Alice said, seemingly a bit more calm than the rest of the girls.

Maybe, we should just let Evan tell us what happened? I mean, how embarrassing would it be if it was just Barty and Regulus having sex and Evan has nothing to do with it?’ Lily said, looking at Evan, who gave her a grateful nod.

‘I did get laid,’ he said, which earned loud, excited screams from the girls and loads of shaking on his shoulders. It took a few minutes for the girls to quiet down again, but when they did, all four of them were staring at him with big eyes.

‘So who was it?’ Emmeline asked, after which Mary squealed loudly and jumped up. ‘Bathroom break! Don’t tell them anything before I’m back!’ she yelled when she was making her way towards the bathroom.

When the door was closed behind her, Alice grabbed his shoulders. ‘Tell us, please. Don’t keep us in suspense!’ she said, smiling at him sweetly. Evan gave one glance to the door, but gave in. ‘I had sex with Barty,’ he said softly, sure that Mary couldn’t hear him.

The three girls were silent for a bit before sharing a look.

‘You know that it’s completely normal for the first time to be bad, right?’ Lily said carefully, sharing a look with Alice. ‘Yeah, it’s never good on the first run,’ she agreed, grabbing his hand softly. Evan frowned at them and looked at Emmeline, who was almost giving him a look of pity. ‘Guys, uhm… it was good? Why would you assume it wasn’t?’ he asked, to which Emmeline snickered.

‘Because you’re here right now and not with him?’ Alice asked, but Evan shook his head, huffing out a laugh. ‘I’m only here because he fell asleep and I needed to talk with someone about this,’ he explained, but the girls didn’t seem to agree.

‘Okay, but there’s only two people in this world, Ev. People who have a bad first time, and people who think their first time is good, but then realise it was really bad when they have more experience,’ Emmeline said, getting agreeing hums from both Lily and Alice.

‘Well Emmeline, you just didn’t have your first time with someone like Barty,’ Mary said, sitting back down a bit wobbly and landing with her head in Lily’s lap, which she ended up leaving there. ‘Believe me, if you have your first time with Barty, you’ll be guaranteed that it’s good.’

She winked at Evan, who felt his cheeks redden and he ducked his head to hide it.

‘So it was Barty, then? Good for you, Ev,’ Mary said grinning up at Lily who was looking at her. Evan groaned, burying his face in his hands. ‘Why do I even bother talking to any of you?’

Mary giggled, swinging one leg lazily over the other. ‘Because, dearest Evan, who else would you spill your guts to about your scandalous love life? Certainly not Barty himself. You know he’d just smirk and say something infuriatingly stupid.’

EVan looked at her in between his fingers, his cheeks still glowing pink. ‘He wouldn’t,’ he mumbled, though he knew he most definitely would.

‘Oh, he would,’ Emmeline cut in, leaning forward with a knowing grin. ‘Barty Crouch lives for being the center of someone’s thoughts. Especially yours, apparently.’ Lily rolled her eyes, reaching over to tug at a strand of Emmeline’s hair. ‘Stop winding him up. If it was good, it was good. And honestly, Ev, that’s all that matters. Everyone’s experience is different.’

‘Exactly,’ Alice added, squeezing Evan’s hand gently. ‘If you’re happy with how it went, then that’s what’s important.’

Mary groaned dramatically, throwing her arm over her face. ‘Ugh, stop being so wholesome. I preferred it when we were embarrassing him.’ Lily flicked her forehead lightly, making Mary yelp. ‘Not everything has to be a spectacle, you know.’

Evan shook his head. ‘All of you are impossible. And for the record, you’re wrong about him always wanting all of the attention. He’s actually... well, he’s not like that. Not with me, at least.’ He glanced at Mary, who gave him a wink, and then at Emmeline, who looked like she was still thinking about the next tease to throw his way.

The room quieted slightly at his tone, and Emmeline tilted her head, her teasing grin softening. ‘Okay, fair enough, Ev. But you came here, so we’re allowed to make fun of you,’ Emmeline said, grinning at him. Evan sighed, shaking his head. He was unable to keep the smile off his face, though. ‘Merlin, I should’ve just stayed in bed.’

‘You should’ve,’ Mary quipped, her grin wide and unapologetic. ‘But hey, now Barty gets to worry about you instead of the other way around,’ she said, winking at him once again.

Evan groaned again, but this time, it was accompanied by a quiet laugh.

It was pure insanity dealing with these girls, but Evan enjoyed it like no other.

‘Now it’s time for drinks!’

As the front door creaked open, Barty frowned and looked inside of the hallway.

‘Girls? Is Ev here?’ he asked, but no answer came. He walked inside and looked at the scene in front of his face in surprise.

Laying in a pile together, were the four girls with Evan in the middle. He was laying with his head on top of Alice, who was hugging Emmeline in her sleep and Lily and Mary had taken Evan as their shared pillow.

He chuckled softly and reached out to ruffle Evan’s hair.

He pulled a sour face and muttered ‘stop,’ and then something in French he didn’t catch. ‘What was that, love?’ Barty asked him softly, sitting down beside him. ‘Je veux dormir, va te faire foutre,’ Evan slurred. His voice was low and sleepy and it was doing weird things to Barty’s insides. ‘Ev, I don’t understand French,’ Barty said, slowly reaching out to brush a piece of his hair away from his eyes.

‘I’m speaking English,’ Evan huffed, frowning, though his eyes were still closed. Barty bit back a grin. “Right. Of course you are. My mistake.”

Evan grumbled something unintelligible again and shifted closer to Alice, as though her presence could shield him from the injustice of being awake. Just when Barty made movements to stand up, Evan frowned and reached out towards him, shaking his hand up and down quickly to grab Barty’s attention.

‘Yeah, what is it, Ev?’ Barty asked, trying to stifle his laughter by biting his lip. ‘You called me love.’

Barty didn’t quite catch if it was supposed to be a statement or a question, but Evan stayed quiet, so he chose the latter as his answer. ‘No, I didn’t? I called you Ev, like I always do,’ Barty said, but Evan shook his head. ‘No, the first time. You called me love. Je le savais parce que mon cœur le sentait,’ Evan muttered, his eyes slowly fluttering open to look at Barty. He smiled at Barty, whose mouth was slightly parted, but he was confused. ‘Still can’t speak French, Ev, sorry.’

Evan frowned at him and pulled a face much like a toddler who didn’t understand the current subject that the grown ups were discussing. ‘I’m not speaking French. Stop saying I am, it’s not funny,’ he huffed, sticking out his lower lip in a pout. He blinked once, twice, and Barty slowly saw the sleep disappear from his eyes.

The rest of the girls were still deep in sleep, and didn’t even stir when Evan moved to sit up. ‘I know you don’t think so, but you really are, Ev,’ Barty said, laughing softly, which made Evan even more frustrated. He reached out to swat Barty’s arm and give Barty a frustrated face.

‘You know, Barty. Even though you try to tell yourself you didn’t do it,’ Evan started, to which Barty said ‘I didn't!’ but Evan hissed ‘shhh’ at him. ‘You can do it again. Call me love. It has a nice ring to it,’ Evan said, smiling sweetly at Barty. He stretched his arms and opened them for Barty to come lay beside him. ‘Okay. I’ll remember it for future reference,’ Barty muttered, carefully moving around the girls’ arms to lay down in Evan’s arms.

Call me love.

It has a nice ring to it.
