(3rd Person POV, 2 months before narrative)

The room was filled with green mist as the boy stood in the centre of it. A soft voice called out to him: 'Percy Jackson, are you sure about this?'

'Yeah,' the boy -Percy - answered: 'Just make sure my mum, Paul and Estelle can still see me.'

The mist swirled up around him in tunnels of green and blue.  The mist slowly settled and the boy smiled. The woman's voice spoke up again:

'It has been done. No mortal will be able to see you safe for your family and those who can see through the mist.'

'Thank you, Hecate.' The boy smiled as the goddess returned the smile, then started glowing. Percy shielded his eyes as she disappeared. He then smiled to himself: 'Phew, now I can finally walk over the streets without being arrested for being a terrorist.'

(Percy POV; current time)

Annabeth and I were leisurely stroling down the streets of Queens. In the distance we could hear the normal humans fighting some aliens. It had surprised us the first time it had happened, but we soon learned that Queens and the rest of New York not only had a monster problem, but also an alien and weird human beings with powers problem.

Annabeth had settled here in New York in a small appartement in Queens, just leisurely living out our gap year between high school and college, which we were going to attend in New Rome (A/N: I am ignoring the chalice of the gods etc bcs that will complicate this story).

I smiled down at Annabeth, who had her hand hooked in mine. She raised her eyebrows in the way that only she could: 'What?'

'It's just nice not to be the ones fighting for once.' I told her softly, staring as Spider-Man swung across the street and back into the fray; he had probably been hit back. I hoped he was okay: he was pretty cool guy.

'Mhh, I still can't get over the fact that the second I hold your hand, no mortals can see me.' She said with a grin.

'Well, we don't want them thinking you're crazy and talking to your imaginary boyfriend, now do we?' I joked as I lent down and planted a kiss on her forehead. She smiled when I pulled away: and was about to say something, when Spider-Man landed right next to us.

We watched him bemusedly, knowing he couldn't see us as he cat-called an alien and quickly felled it. I had to give it to him: he was one heck of a fighter. He then turned to us:

'What are you two doing?!' he demanded, 'Literally everyone else has either evacuated or is hiding in their basement! I get this is New York and all and you're not impressed by aliens, but do us all a favour and idly stroll in a different direction!' he pouted, more surprised by our presence I think, than by the fact we were strolling into danger.

Annabeth raised her eyebrows: 'You can... see us?' she asked, her voice calculating.

'Of course, I have 20/20 vision, well actually more like 22/20, but that's not on the point.' he answered sheepishly. I had a growing suspicion that he was not the 30-year-old everyone thought him to be, he seemed more my age. He glanced over at me and scrunched up his eyebrows: 'Do I know you?'

I sighed: here came the: you're a terrorist.

He suddenly gasped: 'Percy Jackson!' he cried out excitedly.

I shrugged: 'Yeah, that's me.' I answered shortly, then turned to Annabeth, and spoke to her in Greek: 'Ετοιμαστείτε να τρέξετε: Δεν θέλω να παλέψω με αυτόν τον τύπο: είναι πολύ καλός σε αυτό που κάνει και έχει μια ολόκληρη ομάδα για να τον υποστηρίξει.' (Translation: Make ready to run: I don't want to fight this guy: he's pretty good at what he does, and has a whole team to back him up.)

Annabeth nodded in understanding, but Spider-Man was not making any move to arrest us. He just laughed loudly: 'Dude! Where have you been?! You never reappeared after those totally-not-dogs attacked you at school. What were you? Like 10? Man: everyone said they were dogs, but honestly, what kind of dogs look like that?!' he rambled quickly.

I looked at him in confusion: he was not going to arrest me or something like that? Call in back-up? Cry out "Terrorist!" and run away screaming? That was new.

To my even greater surprise, he ripped his mask off and revealed the face of... Peter Parker.

I gasped and Annabeth gave me a questioning look, so I exclaimed: 'Remember that one guy that I told you about, who stood up against that bully Flash, who seemed to hate me for no reason. Remember that guy? That's him!'

Annabeth's eyes widened, and then she smiled, all of her careful calculating nature gone: 'Peter Parker right?' she asked, and he nodded.

'She your girlfriend?' he asked with that annoying grin I had learned to love so much. I nodded. 'Cool.' he told me, glancing at Annabeth, then he smirked:

'How the heck did you settle for this moron?' he teased, making Annabeth laugh:

'Trust me: It took me a few years to fall for him, and then it took him years and years to figure out that I had.'

Peter grinned widely: 'Hey, y'all wanna meet a god? I know one: his name is Thor, he is the god of thunder. Basically like Zeus but then the nice Norse version.' He explained. We both quickly shook our heads:

'We try to avoid gods.' I explained to him, to which he shrugged:

'Most of the ones I have met are pretty chill, except for that one guy that tried to flatten New York, but ya know, that was only 1/3 of the gods I know of.' he added as a dismissive shrug. Then he chuckled: 'In all honesty, only 1 of the 3 I have met was nice, so I get you avoid them.'

I laughed: 'Yeah, they don't seem to like us mortals that much, do they?'

'Wait, they don't even like you: you're like a demigod right?'

'Wait what?!' I stuttered, as Peter laughed:

'Honestly dude, its kinda suspicious when someone can hold their breath underwater for 10 minutes. I figured out stuff pretty soon. So like, Poseidon?'

'Y-Yeah,' I stuttered, then sharply looked up, 'Wait, you figured out when you were 10 that I was a demigod, and didn't tell me.'

'Was gonna, but you kinda disappeared after those quote en quote dogs.'

Annabeth nodded next to me, as if realising something: 'You're a genius, aren't you?' she stated more than asked and Peter shrugged and nodded:

'Blessing and a curse.' he answered with a grin, 'Say, I can keep you away from the god, but if you want I can introduce you to this very cool superspy couple and another genius. We don't  need to mention y'all are demigods. You can have dinner with the avengers and I!' he offered, making Annabeth and I smile:

'Yeah, that's the problem: they won't be able to...' I stopped mid-sentence as Iron Man flew up:

'Hey kid, what are you doing, I know staring into walls is the new thing, but it's slightly unsettling seeing you do it.'

(Tony POV)

The battle was over. 'Anyone seen Spiderkid?' I asked over the comns, I hadn't seen him since he had been thrown over half of New York by one of the alien's tentacles.

'No, haven't seen him since he was slung away.' Nat answered over the comn.

'I have eyes on him,' Clint said, though his tone was weird, 'He's talking to air.'

'What?! Be clear man!' I grumped at him, wanting to know what he meant by that.

'Exactly what I said: he's on 54th avenue and talking to air, laughing and everything.'

'...' My brows furrowed as I tried to think: 'Let me go talk to him, maybe he's talking to himself again: he does that sometimes. Give me a few.'

I landed next to Peter: 'Hey kid, who you talking to?' I asked casually, strolling up to him.

'Oh, this is Percy and his girlfriend Annabeth. Can they come over?' Peter asked excitedly, pointing at the empty air in front of him.

'Uhh, Peter?' I asked, slowly, making his smile drop:

'What?'

'How hard did you hit your head when you were flung away.'

'Not that hard, why?'

'No reason buddy, how about you sit down for a bit. Okay?' I told him, plastering a smile on my face, trying to hide my rising panic. He agree so with a weird expression on his face, and then turned to the empty air again. Then, he started having a full-blown conversation, with O2 molecules. So yeah, to say I was freaking out a bit, would be understating it.

(Annabeth POV)

After Peter's (mentor?) told him to sit down, Peter obliged, but continued talking ot us: 'So, you two getting married anytime soon?' he joked, 'If you need a man of honour, I'll be right here.'

Percy laughed uncomfortably: 'Still 17 dude, too young for that.' he answered, but I shushed both of them:

'Okay, Peter, listen. There's this thing called the mist that hides both of us from normal human eyes, only you can see us, some normal humans can you see.'

'Uh-huh?' he answered, not yet grasping what I was saying, neither was Percy.

'Peter, your mentor can't see us. He thinks you're talking to nothing.' an oh escaped his lips and he glanced back at his mentor, who was now talking to something in his ear. 'Okay, so: he now thinks you've gone crazy.'

'Frickity-Frack-Frack.' Peter said, face-palming in annoyance as Percy burst out laughing:

'This is hilarious.' he told Peter and I. I rolled my eyes:

'Dude: they think he's gone crazy, not funny!'

'Oh, just play it off as an April Fools prank.' Percy suggested.

'That might actually work,' I mused. Percy beamed as I considered his idea:

'But dude: just for the fun of it: act like nothing is going on okay?' he told Peter, 'Just long enough to get them worried, then tell them april fools.'

Peter nodded, a malicious smile on his face. 'Okay, just do that, we're going to leave, well I guess technically watch from the rooftop since Percy doesn't want us to miss seeing this.' I added, as I smirked and Percy grinned apologeticaly, 'Wanna meet up Thursday or something? We'll come looking for you and we can hang out where people think you haven't gone crazy.' I suggested.

Peter nodded: 'Will do,' he answered with a grin. Percy smirked and summoned water to bring us to a rooftop nearby: let the games begin.

(Tony POV)

'Guys, you need to come over here right now, something is really wrong with the kid: he's having a full-blown-out conversation with the air!' I said into my comns, as several worried voices answered they were coming.

I turned slightly to look at Peter, who was just nodding his head as if listening to someone talk. My attention was drawn back when Bruce, Stephen, Steve, Clint, Nat and Wanda landed or just came up running beside me.

Peter turned fully to us and smiled: 'Sup guys!' he called, waving at the others, and making to stand up.

Immediately Bruce was in front of him, ushering him down again: 'Hey Pete, how are you feeling?' he quirried, making Peter frown:

'I'm fine, why? I managed to not hit my head that hard on the wall, honestly: I couldn't even call it hitting my head.'

'Mhhh,' Bruce murmered, fishing a small flashlight out of his pocket, 'Mind looking into it for me?' he asked Peter, who grumbled but complied.

Bruce turned back to us: 'Everything seems to point to him being fine.' he informed us.

'FRIDAY, what are his vitals?' Bruce asked, making me frown: how had I not thought of that. I held my breath as I waited for the answer to come: 'Heartrate slightly above average, blood pressure also above average. He is fine: both of those tend to be higher after a battle.'

I ran my hand through my hair: 'Then what's wrong with him?!' I cried out, turning to the others, who just shrugged.

'I'm fine, Mr Stark. Why would anything be wrong?' Peter asked, still smiling.

'Kid,' Clint said, crouching down next to the teen, 'You were talking to the air.'

'No, no,' Peter chuckled, 'I was talking to Percy and Annabeth!' he explained, smiling his usual smile, as if that cleared everything up.

I shook my head in disbelief: this kid really thought he was talking to Peter. Then, an idea struck me: 'Hey, could it be a mental attack?' I asked Stephen and Wanda, turning to them, hoping they would say yes: at least then we would know what was going on.

'Could be,...' Strange mused, walking forward to Peter: 'Mind if I look inside your head for a bit.'

Peter smiled, seemingly holding in a laugh. 'What?' I inquired, worried about his behaviour, 'Is there some invisible person making faces behind my back?!'

Peter just burst out laughing even more, almost toppling to the ground, had Clint not grabbed him. We all exchanged worried glances until Peter finally snorted out: 'April Fools!'

My mind went blank for a bit, then I glared at the kid: how had I forgotten what day it was?!

Clint just started laughing as well: 'That's the best one yet, I think you even beat the 2017 prank that I did!' he cried out, as Natasha tried to hold in her laughter.

I just rolled my eyes: teenagers would be the death of me.
