For What it’s Worth: Outline
Summary
About three years ago, I had anabsolutely batshit crazy idea for a Harry Potter fanfiction. It started with a text to my friend where I asked “What if Severus Snape, Lily Evans, and James Potter were in a throuple?” I ended up plotting the whole thing out, creating playlists, and even drawing some art for the fic. This is a collection of all those things. I may or may not ever get around to writing it, but I thought people would appreciate it. Feel free to write from my outline and world building, but please list this as inspiration or send it to me if you do! I would love to see it!(Note: This is as gay as humanly possible for the sole purpose of pissing off TERF. K. Rowling.)

The eternal Fourth Wheel)

[SUMMER HOLIDAYS]

  • Petunia and John pick Hari and Lee up from the train station. The boys are shocked at his reappearance and feel a bit awkward around him because it’s been a few years since they last saw him. Back at home, Petunia is alarmed by Naga. She reluctantly agrees to help Lee set up a terrarium for her. John offers to help Lee set up a magical version for when he’s at school. The boys are shocked that John is a wizard. (“Did we not tell them?” “No, John, we didn’t.”) The boys begin to learn more about Lily and James from John. Petunia mentions that family pictures should be in The Potter vault, but she doesn’t have access to them. John agrees to take Hari to Gringotts so he can get the photos.
  • Ron tries to call Hari. Petunia picks up instead. She’s not amused by the yelling, but passes the call off to Hari.
  • [Diana and Lana meet when Diana goes to attend a Seminar Lana is hosting about Hedge and Family Magic. Lana recognizes her as the heir to their family magic. Diana begins studying with Lana in her free time. Draco is weirded out by the whole thing.]
  • A few weeks into the summer, Petunia gets served by a lawyer regarding custody of Lee. Lee is extremely upset about this and doesn’t want to have any contact with Vernon.
  • John has to find somewhere else to stay because Vernon tries to use his presence as evidence of Petunia being an unfit parent. Arabella Figg begins babysitting the boys when Petunia is at work. Neither of the boys are happy about it.
  • Ron and the Weasley’s leave on their trip to Egypt.
  • Vernon and Petunia get an official custody arrangement. Vernon tried to pull Lee from Hogwarts, but was unsuccessful. McGonnigal and Snape acted in their capacity as Deputy Headmistress and Head of House to ensure the courts that all of Dudley’s educational needs were being met. Vernon is pissed about it.
  • Lee is upset he has to spend half of the holidays living with Vernon at Privet Dr. He can’t take Naga with him, so Hari agrees to look after her.
  • Hari goes to Vernon’s house to visit Lee on Lee’s birthday. Aunt Marge is there, unfortunately. She runs her mouth about James and Lily, as well as talking down about Petunia. Lee smacks her. Hari grabs him and the two run out of the house together. Several hours later, John finds the boys and takes Lee back to Privet Dr. He takes Hari back home to Petunia.
  • Sirius Black escapes Azkaban July 30th. Petunia freaks the fuck out after seeing the news. Remus and Arabella call Dumbledore, who ends up sending Peter Pettigrew to act as a security detail for Hari through the rest of the summer. Remus makes himself scarce for the rest of the summer. Petunia is pissed about Peter being there. Peter calls him “Harry.”
  • Vernon tags along with Lee to Hari’s birthday dinner. Hermione and Ron are both away on Vacation, so the birthday dinner is just family. Vernon, not having learned from the last time, talks down directly to Petunia, as well as making lowbrow comments about the deceased Potters. Before she can kick him out, Hari blows him up.
  • Peter enters the house to deflate Vernon. Vernon accuses Petunia of having a “revolving door” in her house. Panicked, the boys grab their school things and their pets. Padfoot appears before Hari. Hari summons the Knight Bus by mistake. They get a couple of rooms in Diagon Alley.
  • The next day, Cornellius Fudge and Peter Pettigrew find the boys. Fudge encourages the two of them to return home. After an emergency hearing, Vernon’s custody is suspended until a court assigned social worker clears him again. He still has visitation, which Lee hates.
  • Peter keeps trying to get closer to Hari, which makes him a bit uncomfortable. He doesn’t like the energy around him, or how weary John and Petunia seem of him. Hari gets angry about the security detail at one point and demands to know why it’s necessary. Petunia explains the part Sirius allegedly played in James and Lily’s death.
  • Peter “grows suspicious” of John. He tries to encourage Hari to be distrustful of him.
  • When the boys receive their school supplies lists, Petunia refuses to sign the Hogsmeade permission slips. Peter, in a bid to gain their trust, forges her signature on the papers.
  • School supplies shopping happens, this time with Peter as an escort. Many in Diagon Alley stop him to chat and thank him for the part he played in the war. He’s incredibly popular. Hari is annoyed. Lee ditches Hari and his escort so he can shop with his friends.
  • Hermione buys Crookshanks. He immediately dislikes Peter, and claws his leg.
  • Percy Weasley is made Head Boy. Diana Malfoy is made Slytherin prefect, and becomes Sybil Trelawny’s teaching assistant for Divination. (Everyone in her year dropped the class.)
  • Hagrid is hired as the Care of Magical Creatures professor. Peter Pettigrew and The Dementors are assigned as security at Hogwarts. This is announced in The Daily Prophet.
  • Hermione Granger is assigned a time-turner so she can handle her excessive course-load.

[THIRD YEAR, FALL TERM]

  • Hogwarts Express departs Kings Cross Station. In addition to the students, Padfoot (Sirius Black), Peter Pettigrew, and Remus Lupin are all aboard independent of each other.
  • Hari and Lee manage to lose Peter. They end up in a compartment with Hermione, Luna Lovegood, and Ginny. (Remus is sleeping with a book over his face. The boys don’t know it’s him.) The Dementors board the train.
  • Peter manages to reach the compartment before The Dementors, but is unable to drive them off. Remus awakens and does it easily. Peter is bitter about this, and inquiries as to why Remus is on the train to begin with. Remus informs him that he’s been hired as the DADA professor. Peter is miffed about this. He asks why Dumbledore would hire Remus when Peter was going to be in the building anyways. Remus shrugs it off and mentions he was hired long before the breakout occurred.
  • The boys bombard Remus with questions about his new job, excited for him to be a professor. Remus gently reminds them that they can’t call him Uncle John, and warns them not to expect any favoritism from him. (Peter snidely remarks that it’s a great change from Remus’ attitude as a prefect.)
  • The rest of the trip goes without any more trouble, though the feast is delayed because of the incident.
  • Peter gives a speech about keeping an eye out for Sirius Black during the feast. Remus and Severus are curt with one another during dinner, but there’s no hostility between them in this AU because they were friends at one point. Both of them are irritated by Peter’s showboating.
  • Peter asks Remus if he knows where the map might be. Remus reminds Peter that it would still be with Filch, unless he had decided to throw it out at some point.
  • Instead of eating with her original friend group, Pansy eats dinner with Daphne Greengrass, Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe, and Gregory Goyle. Millicent Bulstrode also joins them. Her friends are very irritated by this change of events, Lee even stopping by the Gryffindor table to complain about it. Neville is also upset by the development, but not surprised as Pansy had been sticking with them during Summer Society events.
  • During the first Divination class, Hermione is irritated by Trelawny. Diana Malfoy invites Hermione to come to a tutoring session she hosts. Hermione is insulted by the invitation and brushes it off.
  • Draco Malfoy angers Buckbeak and is injured by him. The Slytherins in general are upset by the way the rest of the school reacts to this.
  • The Third Years face a Boggart during DADA. Hari is frustrated that Remus didn’t let him face the Boggart.
  • Peter escorts Hari to and from Quidditch practice, much to Hari’s annoyance. Peter informs Hari that if he wants to go the Fall Hogsmeade Visit, he’ll be tagging along to keep him safe. Hari opts to stay behind.
  • [Diana Malfoy and Catie Lovelace start dating on the trip.]
  • While everyone else is on the trip, Hari makes a visit to John as his Uncle. They talk about the Bogart Lesson. Severus Snape delivers Remus’ Wolfsbane.
  • Sirius Breaks into Hogwarts and attacks The Fat Lady. Peter makes a big deal about searching for him and attempts to repossess The Marauder’s Map. He’s furious to discover it missing from Filch’s confiscated collection. He begins searching for it amongst the students. (Hari loses his Hogsmeade Privileges. He’s not very upset about it.)
  • [Hermione finally attends one of Diana’s tutoring sessions. Diana lore dumps about the differences between Divination, Seers, Oracles, and Prophets. Hermione is not impressed, but grudgingly agrees to look into the sides of Divination that involve mathematics.]
  • Hari’s broom is destroyed during the first quidditch match.
  • Fred and George, nervous about losing the map, pass it off to Hari and encourage him to use it to visit Hogsmeade. Hari sneaks out for the Winter visit. While there, Hari learns more about Sirius’ alleged betrayal. He’s shocked to hear Severus defend Sirius, though it is a bit half-hearted.
  • Buckbeak’s trial is set. After the tio tries consoling Hagrid, they talk about it with Lee. Lee suggests asking Diana to talk to her father about the situation. The trio mostly ignores this suggestion.

[WINTER HOLIDAYS]

  • Hari and Lee go home for the holidays. Peter tags along. (Remus remains at Hogwarts.) They spend time with Petuna. Hari complains about the Buckbeak situation, thinking Petunia will take his side. When she doesn’t, he gets confused. They argue about it. Petunia tells him she would likely kick up a similar fuss if one of them were injured like that.
  • [Remus and Severus commiserate during the holidays. They have a heart-to-heart about Lily and James, and bond over their fragile sobriety. Severus shares his theory that Sirius may not be guilty. Remus is skeptical.]
  • [Lana and Diana meet up at a Yule Society Event. Narcissa recognizes Lana when she sees the two of them standing by each-other. She doesn’t say anything about it, for now.]
  • [Sirius, thinking the wards will have been changed by now, attempts to break into 12 Grimmauld Place. He’s unsuccessful. Lana is spooked by the whole thing, and has Benji tell Dumbledore about the incident.]
  • Hari receives the new Firebolt for Christmas, anonymously gifted by Sirius. Petunia refuses to let him have it, and insists it needs to be checked over. Hari is furious about this. He gets more mad when Lee takes Petunia’s side. [Petunia uses Hedwig to send it to Benji and Lana.]

[1994]

  • Hari is not speaking with his family. The night before Lee and Hari leave to return to school, Petunia offers him some chai as a peace offering. She tries to explain that she just wants Hari to be safe. Hari blows up at Petunia and says that she’s not even his mom. (If you were, you’d be doing a terrible job at it.) Petunia is hurt, but leaves him alone.
  • [Before they return to school, Diana does a reading for Draco. It’s become a tradition for them, and Diana thinks her reading will just be more accurate with her training. She tells Draco that three important people have entered his life, and his interactions with them will decide his future. Draco brushes her off.]

[Spring Term]

  • Everyone returns to school.
  • Hari begins to study the patronus charm with Remus. Remus tries to approach Hari about his fight with Petunia. Hari expresses that he’s frustrated with how everyone has been smothering him. He’s also annoyed that Petunia has always babied him and Lee. Remus talks about how Petunia has always been a bit of a busybody, and warns Hari to appreciate it while he can.
  • The Firebolt is returned to Hari. Hari writes a letter to Petunia and apologizes.
  • Ravenclaw vs. Gryffindor
  • Sirius breaks into Hogwarts again. This time, he tries to break into the teacher’s quarters. Peter is significantly more freaked out this time, especially because Sirius was able to find his lodging and destroyed much of his belongings.
  • [Severus and Remus agree that something is afoot, and agree to figure it out together.]
  • After the next Hogsmeade trip, Hari is caught by Severus and Lupin in a set-up. Severus and Lupin confiscate the map. (They figured out Hari had the map because of his disappearances during Hogsmeade trips.) [“Snivellus. Really. After all this time?” “In Jim’s defense, we did that bit before you started dating.” “Jim already answered for that. You didn’t change it?” “Sirius lost it before we could.” “…Sure he did.”]
  • [Severus and Lupin search for Sirius on the map. He isn’t currently on school grounds, so they agree to keep checking so they can confront him.]
  • Buckbeak's trial occurs. His execution date is set.
  • Lee finally convinces the trio to try appealing to Draco and Diana. They’re skeptical, but Lee insists Draco listens to Diana. She’s Buckbeak’s hail-mary. (She isn’t.) They approach Diana while she’s studying with Catie and Cedric in the library. Diana is furious that the trio is trying to get the execution stopped. She’s also furious that Hagrid endangered a student, moreover her brother. (This just reinforces the Slytherin=Bad narrative for our gryffindors.)
  • Hermione slaps Draco and quits Divination.
  • Gryffindor wins the Quidditch Cup.
  • [Severus and Remus finally manage to corner Sirius after the game. Remus still thinks he’s guilty, but allows Sirius to make a plan to prove his story. Severus holds on to his wand, and Sirius agrees to stay in the shack until further notice.]
  • Final Exams. Trelawney predicts Voldemort’s servant will return.
  • [Remus returns the Map to Filch, setting the trap for Peter.]
  • The Trio comforts Hagrid before Buckbeak’s execution.
  • On their way back to the castle, they are caught by Peter, who is attacked by Sirius as he lecture’s the trio. In a misguided attempt to protect Peter, the trio follow him beneath the whomping willow. (Abandoning the Invisibility Cloak.) They’re led by Crookshanks.
  • [Severus finds the cloak, and uses it to follow Remus without being seen.]
  • Hari disarms Sirius. Ron threatens Sirius when he makes a move towards Hari. Hari demands to know why Sirius betrayed his parents. Before Sirius can answer, Remus disarms Hari and the others, telling them to back off.
  • Sirius, Remus, and Peter get into an argument, and stand off against each other. Sirius openly goads Peter, while Remus subtly pushes him toward confessing. Eventually, Peter gets angry enough to confess. “You always thought you were better than me. And look at you now, Padfoot.” “I am better than you, Wormy.” “Then why was it so easy to frame you?!”
  • Remus is shocked. (Everyone is, but Remus is seriously blindsided by this. He didn’t expect Sirius to be telling the truth.)
  • Peter goads them, taunting them that no one will believe the words of children, a convicted mass-killer, and a werewolf. Severus reveals himself, all hell breaks loose.
  • Time travel shenanigans I’m too lazy to plot out. (Basically canon idk. Except this time, Sirius basically gets acquitted because of testimony from Severus and Remus.)
  • Remus has to resign because Sirius’ retrial means he’ll be outed as a werewolf. Hari and co are very sad about this.
