For What it’s Worth: Outline
Summary
About three years ago, I had anabsolutely batshit crazy idea for a Harry Potter fanfiction. It started with a text to my friend where I asked “What if Severus Snape, Lily Evans, and James Potter were in a throuple?” I ended up plotting the whole thing out, creating playlists, and even drawing some art for the fic. This is a collection of all those things. I may or may not ever get around to writing it, but I thought people would appreciate it. Feel free to write from my outline and world building, but please list this as inspiration or send it to me if you do! I would love to see it!(Note: This is as gay as humanly possible for the sole purpose of pissing off TERF. K. Rowling.)

POST WAR

[1981]

    • After being called back from his post, Remus falls into a depression from the alleged betrayal of Sirius, and his grief at the deaths of Jim, Lily, and (allegedly) Peter.
    • Severus is cleared of all charges: He doesn’t go to trial following a pardon signed by Dumbledore and the Minister of Magic. This is kept anonymous, even after multiple other Death Eaters name him. No one knows he was the spy, however, because of the other Death Eaters that managed to slip away or go missing. Most believe Karkaroff to have been the spy.

  • Peter Pettigrew resurfaces, having been lying low at an order safe house until most of the Death Eaters with damning evidence against them have been captured. He receives an order of Merlin for his “service” in the war.

    • Remus receives very little recognition for his part in the war, many going so far as to treat him with scorn, accusing him of riding the coattails of the real heroes, like the Potters, Pettigrew, and Dumbledore.
    • Remus struggles to find work, and begins hanging around mostly docile werewolves, who smoke opium as an alternative to wolfsbane potion. His PTSD goes untreated, and he develops an addiction.
    • Bellatrix and Rodolphus LeStrange, Barty Crouch Jr. and another Death Eater torture the Longbottoms. Karkaroff implicates Crouch Jr. as one of his final testimonies. They are sent to Azkaban. Bellatrix, when the prisoners are briefly around contact for a meal, begins gaslighting Sirius about Peter

  • Severus, in his grief, vanishes from the Wizarding world.

[1982]

  • Ludo Bagman is acquitted.
    • [Lana begins going on a Downward Spiral as she stresses about her classes, Tuition and Medical expenses— She has no access to the Black Family vaults. By the time her third year rolls around, she’s sunk back into a similar depression she was dealing with at Hogwarts.]
    • [Hestia and a few American friends make it their mission to turn Lana’s attitude around. They begin pulling her into social events, clubs, and parties. Lana begrudgingly attends. Eventually, Hestia pushes her into setting up appointments with some of the school counselors.]
    • [Lana begins addressing and healing from her Trauma. She formally apologizes to Hestia, who tells her that although she forgives her for her actions, and is grateful for Lana rescuing her, she likely won’t be able to forget the hurt for a long time. She’ll still be there to be her friend, though.]
    • [Lana briefly dates a classmate, but breaks it off when she realizes she feels like it’s all an act.]
    • Peter begins looking for Remus, who’s seemingly disappeared, but gives up when he keeps hitting dead-ends. The reason he’s been unable to find him is because Remus has begun going by “John” since he went undercover. Since the werewolves only know him as John, none of them make the connection with the “Remus” Peter is asking after.
    • “John” is also working in the Muggle world when he can, though he is frequently “let go” due to his common absences from work. He mostly lives out of his mother’s old pick-up truck that had been kept for him in storage until he came of age. (He and Sirius fixed it up during the war.)
    • In Azkaban, Sirius ends up in a brawl with Rodolphus and Crouch, as the group continue to taunt Sirius about Peter. Sirius, as the “instigator”, is thrown into an isolation cell for a week. He spends most of his time in the cell as Padfoot. He begins having nightmares about Regulus, speculating on how she disappeared.
    • November: Crouch Jr. was severely injured by Sirius, leading to his mother and father orchestrating his break out.
    • Igor Karkaroff is released from Azkaban, much to the chagrin of Wizarding Britain. After trying, and failing, to locate Severus, he departs for Scandinavia, far more friendly to practitioners of the dark arts.

  • Severus falls back into his alcoholism, and rarely leaves Spinner’s End, save for food and more booze.

    • Petunia is functionally a stay at home mother. She’s been isolated further and further with the death of her family, and most of her contacts in the wizarding world having gone silent or missing. Vernon dislikes Harry for his magic, but also because of his mixed heritage. She begins lifting money from the shopping allowance to save for a new place to stay. She can’t access the Potter vaults.

  • Peter is encouraged to follow in the path of his “Fallen Brothers” and begins training to become an auror. It goes without saying: He’s corrupt.

  • Minerva gets married to Elphenstine.

[1983]

  • Bill Weasley starts Hogwarts.
  • Severus turns up at Petunia’s home on Halloween. They have a conversation about James, Lily, and the War. Severus largely ignores the issue of Harry. He tries to convince Petunia to take some of the money Severus received from the estate, but she refuses. Vernon returns home while Severus is there, and demands an explanation. Petunia tells Vernon he’s just an old friend of her sister’s, which makes him angry. He kicks Severus out.
  • After a day out, when Dudley uses some accidental magic, Vernon hits him. Petunia decides to cut and run, taking her boys with her. She lets Severus know where she goes. (She stays with Arabella Fig while she looks for work.) After she saves up enough money, and after digging it out of storage, she moves into her family’s old RV in a park. She sends Harry and Dudley, now Lee and Hari, to a daycare while she works. One of the other Park Moms looks after them in the evening while Petunia is at her second job.
  • Severus receives a kick in the ass from Petunia after he’s offered a position teaching at Hogwarts. He decided to finish getting his potions mastery, which will take another year. In the meantime, he occasionally stops by the Evans’ home, though he largely avoids the children.
  • [Near the end of Atalanta’s fourth year of school, at a party, she runs into Benji Fenwick, who unbeknownst to her, was studying for a medical degree in the Non-Magus section of NYU. She confesses to him in an awkward moment on a balcony that she wishes she could go back in time and redo their relationship. She misses him. When Benji fails to respond, she goes to leave. Benji chases after her and offers up the original tarot cards she gave him. They start dating again yaaay.]
  • Petunia makes an effort to incorporate Indian foods into their home life. The item Harry likes the best is the drink Masala Chai, which becomes a staple in their home.
  • Petunia is encouraged by a coworker to take up a hobby. She starts practicing the guitar, much to the amusement of her children.
  • On Halloween, Petunia finds Severus drinking himself into a slump, sitting with the urns Lily and James’ ashes are in. She decides to formulate a way for Severus to let go and begin healing. The next day, she purchases tiger lily seeds and deerbush seeds. She teaches Severus how to let them begin to sprout. They plan to repot the plants the following spring by the Potter’s Memorial.

[1984]

  • Petunia gets in contact with Arabella Figg, who offers to move nearby to keep an eye on her boys. Petunia grudgingly agrees.
  • Remus gets into a car crash after overdosing. Petunia finds out about the accident after she gets a call from the hospital at Remus’ request. She leaves the boys in Arabella Figg’s care, and rushes to see Remus.
  • At the hospital, once he’s lulled into a stable condition, Petunia forces her way into the hospital room. She holds his hand until he wakes up, even falling asleep at one point. When Remus wakes and sees her, he tries to be self deprecating. Petunia calls him pretty.
  • Remus stays in the hospital through the end of the year. Petunia brings the boys to visit him as often as she can. Though he tries to be happy to see them, he’s still deeply depressed and dealing with the effects of withdrawal. (Petunia contacts Benji to supply wolfsbane and come work in Remus' room the night of the full moon.)
  • Petunia leaves Remus her address.
  • Severus and Petunia replant the memorial plants.
  • [Lana begins pursuing a Doctorate in her field, with her thesis based around experimental runes/magic. Benji completes his muggle medical training. (he doesn’t get a doctorate, just his nursing degree. He’s very proud that his partner is a Dr. while he’s simply a healer. Benji is a himbo feminist lmao).]

[1985]

    • Walburga Black passes away. Lana hears the news from Benji. She buys 12 Grimmauld Place and, during the summer, sets about renovating it. The house still recognizes her as the heir/master of it. Kreacher does as well but is confused.
    • Vernon manages to contact Petunia and pleads to be let back into Lee’s life. He throws a birthday party for him, which is attended by only Dursley’s, cousins, and friends of them. Aunt Marge attends the party and is rude/condescending to both Petunia and Hari the whole time. She smacks Hari, at which point Petunia grabs Lee and Hari, and leaves.
    • Charlie Weasley and Nymphadora Tonks start Hogwarts.
    • Levi and Hari begin attending primary school.
    • Remus, months past being released from the hospital, decides to find and reach out to Petunia. Upon arriving at her mobile-home, he’s confronted by Arabella Figg, who questions him on why he’s searching for Petunia, as well as his identity. She’s unwelcoming at first, then becomes friendlier once she realizes she’s speaking to “John”. She dotes about Petunia and the boys, telling him that her “rat of an ex” has been trying to find them, and she was worried he’d started sending his friends.
    • Remus decides to move in with the Evans family temporarily. He at first declines, but Petunia insists, telling him that if he thinks she won’t be extorting him for rent money, then he’s dumber than she thought. She helps him get a job.
    • After getting fired, Remus begins drinking. Petunia confronts him about his substance abuse, and he lays into her about the trauma he has from being one of the only survivors of their friend-group, the way he felt watching everyone around him die and how he’s had to relive that pain, and the way that everyone treated him with scorn following his return from the front, despite other wizards being raised up as heroes. Particularly James and Lily— “They weren’t heroes. They were children, barely grown, barely lived. And now we’ll never know what they would’ve been— the heroes they could have grown into.”
    • Petunia tries to argue with him about his negative self worth, but he tries to scare her instead about the fact that he’s a werewolf. Petunia almost smacks him, because DUH she’s known for years. She’s not scared of him because he’s John— wonderful, kind, dorky John, who misread her name the first time they met, then doubled down on it for years. John, who always had a kind word, no matter how much of a shit he was being. John, who would do anything to protect the ones he loves. Remus ends up yelling at her about how much he wishes he’d just died, be it in his accident, the war, or when he was a child. He also tears into Petunia for being a busybody yelling that he never wanted her help in the first place.
    • Petunia gets snippy with Remus about this attitude and talks about her own trauma from the war, as well as how thankful she is that he’s alive. The two cry together and fall asleep on the couch.
    • Remus agrees to begin attending therapy, along with Petunia.

  • Peter is slowly but surely moving up the ranks in the aurors.

  • At a ministry event, young Draco and Diana Malfoy run into Bill Weasley and Dora Tonks. The two are delighted by baby Draco, who changes his hair to be as bright red as Bill’s. Diana has a conversation with Bill while Dora plays with Draco, and she learns about the Weasley’s living conditions. Narcissa comes across them and whisks the children away. She lectures Diana about the differences in their class, as well as why the Weasley’s are so poor. (It’s not a very kind lecture.) Diana doesn’t say it out loud, but she completely disagrees with what her mother tells her. Another person at the event makes a remark about Diana being cursed, and a little Cedric Diggory defends her. The two become friends. (After this event, Draco’s Mallen streak becomes noticeable as his hair starts darkening with his age.)
  • Hari and Dudley begin noticing the open affection Petunia and “Uncle John” have for one another. They start talking about how Petunia should get together with Remus. Remus finally manages to keep his job for the long term, and begins getting disability payments. Hari also picks upon Remus’ nickname, calling Petunia “Auntie Pete”.

[1986]

  • In the Spring term, Severus begins teaching at Hogwarts after Slughorn retires from the position. His students irritate him a lot, but he does his best to be nice to them, (at first.)
  • After the Spring Semester, Severus steps up as the Head of Slytherin House. Dumbledore tries to get Snape to “play favorites” with the Slytherins, but he decides not to. He’s making a genuine attempt to put the “old days” as it were behind him, starting by lecturing (occasionally) against pureblood attitudes and blood supremacy.
  • Lucius Malfoy makes Draco begin using his morphmagus abilities to keep his hair completely blond, like a “Proper Malfoy Heir.”

[1987]

  • Bill Weasley becomes Prefect. Percy Weasley starts Hogwarts.
  • Pansy Parkinson and Neville Longbottom become friends at a Society Event hosted by Augusta Longbottom. They spend most of their time Gardening together in [Pansy’s Mom]’s Garden. They develop a fierce interest in Herbology together.
  • Petunia finally has enough money to move into a townhouse. Remus decides to move out and attempt to return to the Wizarding world so he can complete his masteries and additional education. Petunia and the boys are sad to see him go.

  • Neville Longbottom gets dropped out a window.

  • In the Fall Term, Diana Iphigenia Malfoy (Slytherin) begins attending Hogwarts, as well as Cedric Diggory (Hufflepuff), and Caitin (Catie) Lovelace (Slytherin). Catie is the first muggleborn to be sorted into Slytherin in about twenty years. Former Slytherins (Who were Deatheaters) kick up a fuss about it. Severus and Dumbledore essentially tell them to kick rocks. Lines are drawn through Slytherin internally, with those welcoming to Catie and thoughs racists towards her. Marcus Flint sides with Diana and Catie.
  • Cedric, Catie and Diana become friends after being paired together for an assignment in their Transfiguration class.

[1989]

  • In the Fall Term, Bill Weasley is made Headboy, Charlie Weasley becomes a prefect, and the Weasley Twins, Alicia Spinett, Angelina Johnson, and Lee Jordan begin attending Hogwarts.
  • [Atlanta receives her doctorate after taking the accelerated course load. Dr Mavros, in addition to completing studies about family magic and research on regional magic types, begins working as a Professor at a magic university in MAGUSA. Benji, who moved to MAGUSA permanently after completing his Residency at St. Mungos, proposes to Lana and they get married. (They are only legally married in MAGUSA. They are not married according to WB or the USA Government. They hyphenate their names. (Mavros-Fenwick, and Fenwick-Mavros.)]
  • Quirell teaches Muggle Studies for a Year, then leaves for Albania. While there, he finds Voldemort’s spirit.

  • Fred and George steal The Marauder’s Map.

  • Cornelius Fudge is elected Minister for Magic.
  • Hari and Dudley turn 10. Petunia is terrified that the boys will be going to Hogwarts soon, especially as their accidental magic becomes more frequent. She’s in denial.

  • Pandora Lovegood passes away.

  • For Dudley’s 11th Birthday, Vernon manages to take him and Hari to the Zoo, along with his Business Partner’s kid. Hari Vanishes the glass on the Python Exhibit accidentally, and Lee accidentally teleports Vernon inside. Hari makes the glass reappear. Later, Petunia is amused by this series of events, but freaks the fuck out on a phone call to John, snippets of which are overheard by her boys.
  • Hari and Lee’s Hogwarts letters arrive in early July. Petunia, terrified, shreds them.
  • Similar to the events of canon, Petunia refuses to let the boys have their letters. She takes them to the Sea in an attempt to avoid them. Minerva McGonnigal and Hagrid find them. While Hagrid entertains the boys (by giving them animal body parts), Petunia and Minerva have a discussion about her actions and her fears. Minerva comforts her, and promises she’ll look out for the boys.
  • When they finally get their letters, Hari protests that his name is wrong. “My name is Hari. And Lee’s name isn’t Dursley and mine isn’t Potter— we’re both Evans.”
  • Minerva promises to change their names on the records. (Petunia cries a little at Hari’s protest.)
  • Petunia notices the transfigurations and almost yells at Hagrid. Minerva changes them back.
