The Agreement

Caitlyn grew up with great parents.

Her mother and father were always present, as much as they could be, and never denied her of her freedoms.  It was all Cailtynwhowanted to stay home and study-

But it wasn’t school she was talking about… it was her sexuality.

Coming from a more Asian household, Caitlyn believed her parents would’ve hated her for being a lesbian.  She was only 15 when she saw a naked woman in a magazine and thought “I think I like that!”

From the ages 15 to 18, Caitlyn tried everything to hide it.  Cait kept her feminine clothes, which wasn’t hard she went to a private school with uniforms.  She tried dating only guys before junior year hit and she just got sneaky.  But when her parents found out…

Caitlyn had just snuck a girl up her window.  The other girl and her had been going out a while and finally got to a bedroom and not the back of a pick up truck.  Caitlyn didn’t think the noise of the window closing caught her parents attention.  Soon enough, the two teenagers were making out on Caitlyn’s couch and well… Cassandra Kiramman busted down the door with a shot gun and pointed it!

The other girl was freaked out and broke up with Caitlyn a week later, but Caitlyn didn’t matter as when she finally told her parents, they happily accepted her.  Even going to her first pride event in downtown NYC the next year!

Caitlyn stopped the sneaking girls in, but after being out for 15 years, you’d think she had a partner now?  Nope.

So, back to where we were.

“What about the Medarda girl?” Caitlyn’s mother spoke up.  They were currently at a fancy dinner, celebrating a win her father, Tobias, had with another company.

Mother.” Caitlyn said, a small sigh.

“I’m just saying!  The Maddie girl was very sweet to you for years!  Then you tell us you guys broke up and she moved away.” Cassandra continued, shaking her head.  Tobias took a sip of his wine, making eye contact with Caitlyn.  It made him smile.

“Look, sweetie, your mother is just… trying to look out for you, okay?  Love takes a long time, but the business isn’t everything you have.  Have some life time outside of work.” Tobias moved a hand to his daughter’s hand, giving a small squeeze.

“I know, I’m just really busy right now.  I promise.” Caitlyn smiled at her father before her other hand moved to her mother’s hand.  Cassandra gave a smile, moving Caitlyn’s hand up to place a small kiss to the back of it.

Caitlyn really did have a great life!  But it was true.  Not just her parents, but the media labeling her ‘most single CEO of the year’ wasn’t amazing.

“Y’know, you could just… hire a girlfriend.” Jayce mumbled.  Caitlyn was out at a club with Jayce and Mel!  Recap: Jayce is the annoying older brother who isn’t her brother and Mel is his girlfriend(?).

“Hire a girlfriend?  That sounds so stupid.” Mel scoffed, taking a sip of her wine.  “Caitlyn wants a connection with someone, not just a poser for some money-“

“No, he’s right.  I really could do that just to get my parents and media off my back.” Caitlyn rubbed the back of her neck with a small huff.

“Wha- you’re considering it?  Just hop on some dating apps or something.” Mel said, sitting up a bit.

“Yeah, but the second they see my face, they know how much money I have.  It isn’t… nice.” Caitlyn shrugged.

“It’s okay, sprout.  I promise you’ll find your person soon.” Jayce gave a smile before taking a shot!

Caitlyn held up the glass of scotch to her lips when her eyes scanned the busy room.  Her eyes ended up at the front door where-

Violet?

Vi entered the club, laughing with a few other females around her.  Clearly friends.  Better be.

“I’ll be back.” Caitlyn set her glass down and moved to stand up.

“You haven’t been clubbing in ages Vi!  Cmon, go grab a beer, they have your favorite!  We will be right over there!” Margot spoke in skits, already drunk from pre-gaming.  Sevika quick to turn her around and give a nod to Vi before pulling Margot away.

Vi let out a breath as she moved over to the bar, signaling for a beer.  As she waited, she felt a hand on her right shoulder, sliding down her arm and to the table.  Vi quickly looked over-

“Vi?”

“Caitlyn?”

They both seemed to say at the same time.  It made them both smile.

“Do you own everything in Manhattan?” Vi said, a bit loud due to the loud music, Caitlyn having to lean in a bit to hear.

“Not yet.  When do you club?  I thought you were too broke?” A playful jab that Vi would usually be mad at, but coming from Caitlyn, she laughed a bit.

“Some friends wanted me out of the house.  This is like my 3rd time clubbing after turning 21 and that was… 2 years ago.” Vi said, a bit embarrassed.

“You’re 23?  You look younger!” Caitlyn grinned, nudging Vi’s shoulder with her arm.

“And what?  You’re my age?  You look 19 too-“ Vi pointed.  Cailtyn shook her head.

“I turned 30 in January.” Caitlyn said when Vi leaned in to hear her out.  Vi’s eyes widened and the leaned back.

“Okay, no offense, you’re smoking hot for your age!” Vi looked her up and down.

“You’re too flattering, you just want me to buy you a drink.” The blue haired woman rolled her eyes.

“Maybe I do.” Vi shrugged.  Yeah, Caitlyn already slipped her card over the bar.

“You gotta start being quicker, friend.  If your friends get bored, we are over in V.I.P.” Caitlyn winked before giving a small wave and leaving into the crowd of people.

“Did I just say smoking hot?” Vi whispered to herself before groaning, grabbing her beer, and moving over to Sevika and the others.

“Who was that?” Gert asked, smiling at Vi when she submerged from the crowd.  Vi just hummed in question-

“Oh, Caitlyn?  Just a friend.” Vi nodded.

“You’re friends with the CEO of half of New York?” Sevika asked, raising an eyebrow.

“So, everyone knows who she is but me?” Vi looked around.  Nods all around.

“Well, she invited us-“

“Party with the rich people!  Let’s go!” Gert cheered before the three moved, Vi watching them go over.  Fuck me.

“We hear you’re here for a good time?” Jayce stood up with a smirk.  Mel pulled him to sit down, standing up instead.

“Mel.  Jayce.  Caitlyn.” Mel held a hand out to Sevika who shook hands with her, pointing to each person.

“I’m Sevika.  The already drunk one is Margot, and the two behind me are Gert and Vi.” Sevika smiled, moving to sit down with Margot, Jayce pouring them some shots and waving over a bartender.

“Oh, we’ve heard of Vi.  I’ll make sure to look left and right any time I turn.” Jayce joked.

“Shouldn’t you be doing that already?” Vi joked, moving to shake Mel and Jayce’s hand, taking a seat next to Caitlyn since she patted the spot next to her.

Sevika and Mel did most of the talking.  Sevika’s NY Giant’s shirt caught Mel’s attention and now Gert and Jayce had joined into the convo on sports.

A bartender walked over and Vi was about to order another cheap beer-

“Do you like whiskey?” Caitlyn looked at Vi.  Vi just giving a puzzled look.  Caitlyn handed the bartender $50.

“Two whiskeys on ice.” Caitlyn nodded, the bartender pocketed the cash and moved to get their drinks.

“Oh cmon, you didn’t even give me a chance, cupcake.” Vi scoffed.  Her cheeks were a tiny bit red, it was clear Sevika, herself, and Caitlyn had high tolerances.

“Cupcake?” Caitlyn questioned.

“You’re sweet, just like a cupcake.” Vi winked with a small laugh.  Caitlyn rolled her eyes.

The night seemed to come to an end, loud music and the smell of alcohol wasn’t easy to talk about family around.  Caitlyn wanted to get to know Vi more, but didn’t push her luck tonight.

It was just like the other day.  Caitlyn and Mel standing outside as Mel smoked when Vi and her group waved to the two and moved to leave, Caitlyn watching Vi.

The next day, around 6am:

Caitlyn

Hey Violet

It’s Caitlyn

I wanted to ask if you could meet me at my office!  I had a question about something I can’t discuss over the phone.  Sound okay?  Just come whenever

Vi had just woke up around 8am, so seeing this message had her a little… out of it.  Vi did have a class and some studying, but around 1pm, Vi made her way to the Kiramman Industry office!

It was very easy to spot on google maps, and even more with the huge ‘K’ on the building.  She was still trying to decide if it was self-centered or proud-

Caitlyn also sent Vi a small scan code, like a gym code, but it was to help her get into the building!  Vi scanned herself in and moved around.  Damn, very confusing!

“Violet Lanes?  Ms. Kiramman is expecting you.” A woman walked over.

“Just Vi- I know, I’m just a little confused.” Vi rubbed the back of her neck.

“No worries, follow me.” The woman nodded and moved around.  One long elevator ride later, the doors opened to another door with two guards outside.  The woman waved at them and they opened the doors for Vi.  Vi thanked them before moving inside.

“Violet, over here.” Caitlyn’s voice spoke up.  Vi turned her head and smiled, seeing Caitlyn sat at her desk, computer open, still in a trenchcoat from the cold.

“It’s just Vi, Caitlyn.” Vi said with a small laugh, putting her hands in her pocket.

“Yeah, yeah, please, sit.” Caitlyn smiled and moved to stand up.  The desk seemed cleaned off other than a small few pieces of paper stapled together.

“You got me a bit nervous, your text was ominous.” Vi sat down in the chair, leaning back.

“I know, I’m sorry.  I just… I really wanted to talk.” Caitlyn looked away before she picked up the papers and held them out.

“I don’t know if you’re up to social media, but I’m pretty sure half of my life and media presence things I’m going to die sad and alone,” Caitlyn began, slowly pacing as she spoke, “so I wanted to ask you, since you said you like working or gaining your money, if you would be okay with being my fake partner in exchange for some money?” Caitlyn finally stopped and looked at Vi.  Vi just stared at her, not grossed out, more confused.

“The papers are a contract that would only last a year.  You’d come to social events with me, posing as my girlfriend, and I will make sure your expenses are paid.  Read it.” Caitlyn took her own glasses off and held them out to Vi.

“Your vision ain’t as bad as mine-“ Vi held her hand up before pulling glasses out of her pocket and putting them on.  Cute.

Vi began reading:

“So, you… wouldn’t I be an employer?  No, you answered that.” Vi whispered.  “Caitlyn, this is-“

“It’s a lot, I know.  But… just think about it.  Take a week to think about it and get back to me?  I… let me help you out, Vi.  And help me out too.” Caitlyn gave a small smile.

So, Vi sat on it.

Vi left Caitlyn’s office a bit stunned, but made it home without getting hit!

And she sat on it.

The next day was Monday.

No response from Vi.

Caitlyn had a few meetings and kept her phone notifications on her laptop, but… nothing.

Tuesday came around and it was still nothing.

Maybe Vi was going to take the whole week to think, but then Wednesday hit…

Violet

I’m headed to your office

I got everything signed

I just have questions

Caitlyn immediately sat up, hearing the ding of the elevator outside.  She moved to open the door, the guards freezing and Vi stepping out of the elevator.

Vi looked up from her phone and saw Caitlyn… a smile.

They both got settled as Caitlyn put the paperwork in a file folder, labeled ‘Violet’.  Then she moved to sit next to Vi in the pair of chairs in front of the desk.

“So, I am just your fake partner?  That you take to events?” Vi asked, Caitlyn handing her a water she just poured.

“Correct.”

“And you would provide… provide my rent, outfits for events, and other stuff?” Vi asked.

“Correct.”

“There’s no… no catch?” Vi asked another question.

“None.  We can be friends or strangers outside of camera view.  You don’t have to have nothing to do with me outside of event days.” Caitlyn explained with a nod.

“Well, I’m not gonna toss you to the side, I’ll keep the friend option.” Vi said with a small laugh.

“And it won’t start for a while, make sure to send me your calendar and school schedule so I don’t mess with your actual life.” Caitlyn nodded.

“I already did.” Vi said.

“Good job.” Caitlyn chuckled.  Vi fell silent, looking down at her cup.

“Remember, if you want out, just tell me.  The events for the next 7 days will continue then it will be cut off.” Caitlyn nodded.  Vi nodded as well.

“So I’m basically your sugar baby?” Vi asked.  That caused Caitlyn to let out a small laugh.

“Yes, I suppose it does.” Caitlyn nodded again.

Silence fell through out the office.  It wasn’t anything awkward, mainly seeing who was going to speak first, and it was Caitlyn.

“Well, it’s getting late and I know you have school work.” Caitlyn stood up, Vi following.

“I… thank you, Caitlyn.” Vi looked at her.

“You have to stop thanking me, Vi.” Caitlyn let out a small laugh.

“But I am.  Thankful, that is.” Vi whispered, moving a hand to Caitlyn’s, giving a small squeeze.  There was a still air before she let go.

“I went ahead and paid Babette for your rent.  And contacted Columbia to clear off your loans.” Caitlyn said.

“You didn’t have to-“

“I don’t have to do anything.  I wanted to.  Plus, you’re a great starter, Violet.  I like knowing I can help you and your family.” Caitlyn nodded.  Vi just sighed.

“Well, girlfriend, I guess I’ll see you soon?” Vi winked.  The atmosphere finally airing out into a more happy mood.

“Of course, girlfriend.” Caitlyn let out a small laugh, watching Vi walk out.  Caitlyn let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding.
