You did what?
Violet Lanes’s daily routine usually went like this:
Around 6:30am, her alarm began to blare, causing the red head to mumble and groan before slapping her hand on her phone a few times before it finally shuts off.
Between 6:31 and 6:50, Vi run’s through a quick, cold shower. She dries herself off, brushes her teeth, and shoves a pair of loose, baggy jeans on, as well as some random shirt off the ground (that she sniffs to make sure it isn’t smelly). Then she grabs a plain, un-sliced bagel, grabbing her glasses that could snap at any second, grabbing her keys, then rushing around the door.
Luckily, living in her shitty apartment in the middle of Manhattan, she could cut through Central Park to skip through traffic. On a bike, don’t worry, she’s not about to run-
The redhead’s shitty little Harley Davidson motorcycle that her dad gave to her when he died. She named it Cherry due to its red hints, buried by all the rust-
Then she arrives to her first class around 7:30, for her 8am class. It was Monday, so she only had her physics and calculus class! Lucky her. Around 12:30pm, her calculus class ended and she rushed back home in 20 minutes!
Now giving her 40 minutes to get ready for work. Even more lucky for her, her job was just around the corner, barely a 2 minute walk-
Vi let out a huff as her butt hit her small love seat, running a hand through her hair, scratching the buzzed side before letting her hand fall to her side.
Riiinnnggg.
Vi cursed before lifting her hips to pull her phone out of her pocket. The words ‘Sis’ popped up!
“What do you want?” Vi answered as she pressed the phone to her ear.
“Wow sis- think that low of me?” Jinx, her blue haired sister, answered.
“Yes, actually, you rarely wake up before 3pm, so a 12:40 call from you is… suspicious.” Vi chuckled, moving to stand up, moving to her bedroom.
“Well, I’ll have you know, I’m up early because… I forgot how to order the uh… the Budlight’s…” Jinx said, causing Vi to sigh. Vi set her phone down, placing it on her bed and putting it on speaker.
Vander, Vi and her siblings father owned a bar in the middle of Georgia, where Vi was from, and since he’s getting a bit older, the family helped around! But due to Vi’s college decision, she had to make sure her younger siblings could actually help him out-
“So,” Vi began as she moved to change into her work clothes, “you go into the computer, go to the folder that says ‘ordering’. Once it’s open…” she trailed off to take her shirt off.
“Once it’s open, you press the beer tab, I’ll open all the tabs and you’ll go to the one that says www dot Bud light or whatever.” Vi said. She stopped moving, hearing silence from the other end before a small hum was heard.
“Type in the info on the sticky note and-“ “Okay, I got the rest, thank you so much.” Jinx cut her off, making Vi laugh again.
“It’s only been 6 months since I left and you guys are already breaking down without me.” Vi sighed, this time making Jinx laugh.
“You wish- I’ll let you get to work, by love ya-“ “Love you too.” And the call was ended.
Then came the not so eorse part of Vi’s day: her job.
Vi was a barista for a small, family owned shop. They also owned the building she lived it and gave her a good discount on rent!
Once she moved inside, the small bell dinged, making the older female at the cashier look up.
“Oh! Violet! My flower!” The woman gasped, stepping off the stool she was standing on and moving over to Vi with quick feet.
“Babette, it’s nice to see you here today.” Vi smiled, the two sharing a small hug before she moved to put the tan apron on and going behind the counter to start on some online orders they got.
“Margot is here too, she’s taking a smoke break out break.” Babette said, moving back onto the stool to continue getting the costumers order!
“I’m here! Hey Vi.” Margot stepped inside from the back door, poking Vi’s arm as she passed by.
The small store had a soft lighting to it. Comfy chairs and a small coffee table near the big window with ‘Zaun’s Coffee’ on it. Some chairs and tables around for normal sitting. Soft jazz playing in the speakers of the white and light oak decor. It was a home away from home.
“I have to leave early tonight, so it’s just you closing since Margot’s shift ends in an hour.” Babette said.
“Aye aye captain.” Vi saluted with a small laugh.
And the day was fairly quiet. The cafe was open from 6am to 8pm. Vi usually was the one to close, along with Sevika who was another worker there.
As it got later in the evening, once 8:15 hit and people left, giving Vi a few nods and waves, Vi began closing! Locking the front door and setting the alarm after sweeping and mopping and stocking for the morning shift. She slipped out the back door, locking it before she began making her way to her apartment!
Ding.
Vi slowly came to a stop, pulling out her phone and checking the number.

Columbia U Library: To: Violet Lanes
Sorry for bothering you!
You left a textbook here at the 2nd floor
Would you like to come pick it up before we close in an hour?
“Shit.” Vi cursed before she checked the time. She could get there in 10 minutes.
Yeah
Be there in ten
Vi moved to the garage of the apartment building, starting her bike up and began driving towards the university! She would be quick! And even decided to take some back roads of non-busy side streets.
Maybe it was the loud music she was playing or the engine, but she turned down one street, seeing as it was only a two way stop sign, meaning she didn’t have to stop!
Vi sped up a bit, but she didn’t see the bright headlights coming straight for her. She turned her head last second with a small gasp, moving her arm up to hopefully protect her body since she only pulled a helmet on.
The car did seem to slow down, making the blow softer, but still hitting Vi head on.
The car missed Vi’s leg, but sent her off the bike, back hitting the ground with a grunt, her helmet sliding off and breaking. The car turned a bit, but came to a full stop.
Vi heard two car doors open with a small ‘holy shit’ before she heard heels quickly clicking over.
“You fucking hit someone, Steb!” The woman’s voice yelled as she got closer. The headlights were still blinding Vi as she moved to push herself to sit up, a hand moving to her shoulder with a huff. Other than the ringing in her ears, she seemed to be okay.
“What the fuck!?” Vi yelled, moving a hand up to hide the lights so she could look up at the woman, vision finally settling and-
Oh my fucking Janna she’s gorgeous-
The woman was in a black turtleneck and black jeans. But that wasn’t what Vi was looking at. Her face was beautiful. Sharp nose and jawline, eyebrows knitted, dark blue hair, her mouth slightly open and showing off a tooth gap. The mystery woman said something, but Vi was not paying attention.
“What?” Vi blinked.
“I said, are you okay? I’m so sorry about that, my driver is apparently blind-“ Caitlyn looked back over to a figure near the car.
“I-I… yeah! Yeah, I’m fine, I… I was going a bit fast…” Vi, she hit you why are you saying you were the problem-
The woman offered a hand and Vi took it hesitantly, moving to stand up.
“I… look, I’m running late to a meeting, and I don’t want to seem insensitive. Here.” The woman pulled something out of her pocket and held it out, a business card.
“Take this, check with your insurance, and text me the amount. I’ll pay for any damages.” The blue haired woman smiled and- Vi compose yourself.
Vi stood their kind of shocked as the woman turned and rushed back into the vehicle, her driver entering as well, before she drove off! Vi was speechless, just waiting before looking down at the card.

What the fuck?
“What the fuck?” Sevika said out loud.
It was maybe two days later when Vi told Sevika what happened, aka why Vi had scratched on her left arm when she came in for work. They were currently sat down, since no costumers were inside.
“So, you get hit, a hot woman gives you a card, then leaves?” Sevika recapped. Vi just gave a nod.
“Are you sober?” Sevika said.
“Sev- yes! Yes, I’m sober, I’m just… I called my insurance company and they said it would just be $500 for repairs, but still. I’d feel bad.” Vi looked at the card, rubbing the back of her neck.
“Eat the rich, I say go for it.” Sevika mumbled before the ding of the door sounded and Sevika got up to take orders.
Vi just stared down at the card, it was… this was so odd.

Caitlyn Kiramman was very busy.
At 5am, she is up and out of bed. Taking a cold shower to wake up before going for a run and to her morning work out with her personal trainer.
Around 6am, Caitlyn scrolls through emails before taking her actual shower and strategically putting her work clothes on. She pulled her hair dried hair into a high ponytail, letting some pieces fall as she grabbed her brief case and was out the door.
At 8am to 12pm, Caitlyn is in call after call, meeting after meeting. It was sort of boring, but it was just a bunch of check-in meetings, stock meetings, and technology updates.
She skipped lunch today, waiting until 4pm to finally have dinner at work. Some take out Chinese food as she typed some emails and spreadsheets out, as well as checking in with her family in a 30 minute call.
But Caitlyn let her head lay on her arm, on her desk, for a bit too long. The huge window wall behind her was suddenly dark when she opened her eyes.
Suddenly 5pm was 8pm and she was late to a dinner/meeting with an investor! Fuck!
Caitlyn rushed downstairs where her driver, Steb, opened the door for her.
“Ms. Kiramman, looking lovely as always.” Steb spoke with a smile.
“Compliment me later, I’m almost late.” Caitlyn mumbled before slipping into the back of the black BMW.
Caitlyn asked Steb to speed up a bit and take some back roads! In the back, she reapplied her mascara (she rarely wore much makeup), and took her hair out of the ponytail, running her hands through it to clean it up-
Thud!
The car was suddenly bumped and Steb quickly stepped on the breaks, causing Caitlyn to jump forward a bit.
“Steb?”
“Ma’am I-“
Caitlyn stepped out of the car and-
“You fucking hit someone, Steb!” Caitlyn yelled before she rushed over to the woman. She made note: red hair, face and neck tattoo, cut top lip- Oh.
Seeing the red haired woman hold her hand up and look up with a small ‘what?’ Made Caitlyn’s heart jump a bit. How could a ‘what’ sound so pretty?
“I said, are you okay?” Caitlyn said, moving to offer her hand as the woman explained something about not paying attention-
“I… look, I’m running late to a meeting, and I don’t want to seem insensitive. Here.” Caitlyn pulled her business card out of her pocket and held it out.
“Take this, check with your insurance, and text me the amount. I’ll pay for any damages.” Caitlyn gave a kind smile before she rushed back over to the car to get to her meeting!
Two days later…
“You *hit someone!?*” Jayce said with a gasp. Jayce and Caitlyn grew up together, her parents sponsored him at NYU and they became close ever since.
“I did! And I feel awful! I-I told them to text me with the insurance amount and- fuck I need to just hand them a million dollars and call it a day!” Caitlyn through her arms up before covering her face with her hand.
“Just be glad the media didn’t see anything- wait did they see anything??” Jayce blinked.
“No, I don’t think so, but god… I feel so shitty. Plus, the meeting was just the guy flirting with me and the waiter for an hour. Not enough wine to help me there.” Caitlyn removed her hands and leaned back in her chair. Her leg bouncing in anxiety. Her mother would kill her if she found out about-
Ding!
Caitlyn and Jayce both looked at the phone. She leaned over and a random number message came up with the first messages ‘hey’ ‘this is the girl you hit the other day’
Damn it- so she opened it fully.
???
Hey
This is the girl you hit the other day
Is there any way you can meet up with me?
I’m very confused on this situation
“She asked to meet.” Caitlyn whispered, looking at Jayce. He just nodded quickly. “Respond, respond-“ he said.
Of course!
Does tomorrow @ 11am work for you?
We can meet for brunch?
My treat for hitting you
Lol
Sounds great
I’m Vi by the way
“Her name is Vi… odd.” Caitlyn shrugged.
Hello Vi, I’m Caitlyn
You probably knew that actually
I’m sorry for basically hitting and running
Honestly
It’s all good
Not the 1st time I was hit on my bike
New Yorkers are blind
But you were nice enough to leave a note so
It was the least I could do
Sorry that NYC is treating you bad

To say Vi was overwhelmed was an understatement! In a black t-shirt and more fitted jeans, Vi parked her bike in… valet? What kind of restaurant is this?
“I don’t have money for valet.” Vi commented when a man walked over to her to accept her keys.
“Oh don’t worry! Ms. Kiramman made sure it was paid for!” The man said. Vi was still hesitant, but handed over her keys and mumbled something about ‘don’t scratch her’ knowing the bike looked like it was thrown off a cliff-
Vi adjusted her shirt before moving over to the huge glass door, opening it and stepping inside. My gods- this place was huge! How could a brunch place be huge!? It had white interior, white seating, hell she could smell the rich in the place.
“Ms. Vi?” A woman spoke up, moving over to Vi.
“Uh yeah?” Vi answered.
“Right this way.” The woman smiled and moved along! Vi followed. She was led past all the fancy chairs and seating, even the huge gold and white chandelier, and led down a hallway to a opaque pair of glass doors. ‘KIRAMMAN’ written into it.
The woman knocked on the door before nodded at Vi, “go ahead.” Vi blinked. She thanked the woman before opening the door and moving inside.
Caitlyn looked up from the table in the middle of what looked like a private dining area, other tables around with chairs stacked on top.
“Vi, come sit. I thought you would rather us speak in private.” Caitlyn sat up and smiled.
“Why? Can’t let media know you hit a broke college student?” Vi mumbled, seeing that it made Caitlyn laugh, Vi laughed as well.
Vi moved to sit down, a glass of water being set down before it was just the two of them.
“I’m really sorry about that, again. I’ve decided I’m just going to double whatever your insurance company said. Is that alright?” Caitlyn leaned forward.
“I uh… you don’t have to. They said it was only $500, you can just give me $100 and we can call it a day.” Vi said, shaking her head.
“That won’t do. Look, I’ve got money falling out of my ass at this point. Please, let me write you a check.” Caitlyn moved to pull out her handbag.
“No, no, it’s okay, really. If I’m being honest, I don’t… I don’t have a bank account- so truly, no need for it.” Vi was quick to jump, moving a hand to the table.
Caitlyn paused before she looked up at Vi.
“You don’t have a bank account? How are you a college student? I assumed you don’t live with your parents… New York is too crowded for families.” Caitlyn slowly lowered the check book.
“I said I was a broke college student. I’ve been paying in cash and… my dad uses his bank account. I mail him the money- it’s a really complicated process.” Vi chuckled.
“The lowest first payment for an account in manhattan is like $1,000 and I… I don’t have that on me right now.” The red haired huffed, rubbing the back of her neck.
Silence filled the room for a few beats before Cailtyn spoke up.
“Do you have anything else going on today?” Caitlyn asked.
“I had my one class at like 8… so other than fixing up my bike, no.” Vi checked the watch on her wrist before looking at Caitlyn.
“Follow me.” Caitlyn moved to stand up.
“We didn’t even get food-“ “Take a bagel-“ Caitlyn said before moving out of the room. Vi did so, rushing to follow Caitlyn.
“Where are we going?” Vi asked, moving a bit quick to catch up to her.
“To open you a bank account.” Caitlyn said nonchalantly.
They made it outside, Steb moving to open the back seat door for the two. And it finally hit Vi.
“What? No I can’t possibly let you do that.” Vi stopped a few feet away from the door.
“Vi, I know I’m a stranger basically… but get in the damn car.” Caitlyn motioned towards the seat before she scooted inside.
“I would listen to her.” Steb whispered.
“Yeah, yeah.” Vi mumbled before she hopped into the back seat as well!
Once they got settled, Vi looked around, glancing at the leather seats before looking out the window. What the fuck are you doing?
Riiinnnggg-
Vi looked at Caitlyn then down, pulling her phone out. The words Mylo popped up on screen. She huffed before looking at Caitlyn.
“Go head-“ Caitlyn waved her hand.
Vi answered, clearing her throat, “I’m kind of busy right now, what do you need?”
“To busy with the bitches you aren’t getting? Yeah, whatever, can I borrow $50 to get Clag and Jinx dinner tonight?” Mylo asked. Yeah, he was a loud talker so Caitlyn could hear it!
“Uh yeah, go ahead, yknow you don’t have to ask? If you and those two need more money-“
“Violet, relax, we aren’t starving.” Mylo cut Vi off. It made Caitlyn let out a silent laugh.
“Just… okay, just call me later?” Vi asked.
“Of course, mom. Bye, love you.” “Yeah.” Vi said before setting her phone down and ending the call.
“Brothers?” Caitlyn asked.
“Two of them, and a little sister. Older of 4.” Vi leaned back.
“Oh wow, that is a lot.” Caitlyn said with a small laugh. “I’m an only child so, I could only wonder.” She whispered. Vi looked at her with a small hum.
“So, he’s the guy who hit me?” Vi looked at the front seat, whispering to Caitlyn.
“In my opinion, he can’t get tattoos so he saw yours and got jealous or something.” Caitlyn whispered.
“Whispering still means I can hear you.” Steb said, looking in the rear view mirror.
Vi just hummed and leaned back. It was… a little odd. Caitlyn had this very calming nature to her. Like, yeah, she could probably buy her college campus- but she isn’t.
To Caitlyn, Vi felt the same to her. An older sibling who cared about her family so much she’d let them take money out of her college savings just for dinner?
“So, is that why you won’t let me give you $500?” Caitlyn said out loud. Vi turned her head and… she scoffed.
“No… maybe. It just- there’s no point to it. I rather work for the $500 instead of just gaining it.” Vi shrugged.
“I hit you with my car. You’re deserving for like a million dollars-“ Caitlyn raised an eyebrow, leaning in a bit. Vi leaned back, “you’re also a little bit of a weirdo, I don’t take money from weirdos.”
“Wow. Here I thought I was making a friend.” Caitlyn rolled her eyes, both of them sharing a laugh.
It wasn’t long before they arrived to the bank! Chase Bank specifically-
Steb parked on the side before opening the door for the two! Vi got out before holding a hand out to help Caitlyn out. Caitlyn thanked her with a nod before they headed inside!
And after one look and a few words-
“And just sign here, Ms. Lanes.” The woman at the front desk spoke.
“Lanes?” Caitlyn raised an eyebrow.
“Take my social security number while you’re at it.” Vi looked Caitlyn up and down before handing over her license! Vi moved forward to sign some stuff for the lady!
Violet Lanes. Cute.
“All set, you should be getting your card in a few days.” The woman gave a short nod.
“Thanks.” Vi smiled before the two moved towards the door. Vi stopped a bit, a hand moving to Caitlyn’s arm to stop her.
“Huh?”
“Thank you, Caitlyn. Truly, this… this means a lot.” Vi said, her usual tough face softening.
“Violet, it’s nothing, don’t worry about thanking me. Friends? Who occasionally hit each other with their vehicles?” Caitlyn held out her hand with a smirk.
“Ha ha,” Vi rolled her eyes before moving to shaking Caitlyn’s hand with a smile, “friends.”
Caitlyn has small hands.
Vi has big hands.
The same thought passed through their heads before letting go. Caitlyn got Vi back to her bike and she was gone! Caitlyn stood there, watching Vi leave. What a person.
