Yuki learns how to fly

It was the next day and Hawks was waiting outside his apartment for Shoto and Yuki. He had promised the teen that he took a day off to spend with the girl so Shoto could attend classes without any worry. Hawks was super excited to teach her how to use her wings.

Eventually, the Todoroki rounded the corner, along with Yuki and Hawks' very own intern.

“Hey, birdies! How was yesterday?” He asked as they approached, noting that his daughter looked very happy.

“It was fun,” Shoto replied, a rare smile adorning his face. “We took her to the mall and shopped for some things.”

“Look at the new clothes I’m wearing!” Yuki giggled, jumping up and down, showing off her cute outfit. The teens bought her a comfortable sweater with a cat sewn on, along with a frilly turquoise skirt. Leggings were warm underneath to protect her from the chilly winter weather.

“It looks amazing, Yuki!”

“We also got her another item,” Tokoyami mentions, and from behind her Yuki pulled out a small Hawks plushie. And Hawks died inside.

The blond could feel tears of happiness well up in his eyes. “Oh my god, it’s perfect. You guys are the best.”

The four-year-old hugged the toy tighter. “I love it so much!!! You’re my favourite hero ever!!!”

Hawks’ heart clenched. He was gonna have a heart attack from all the cuteness radiating off Yuki. “Aw! And you're my favourite birb!—no offence Tokoyami.”

“…none taken.”

“Now who’s ready to go flying?” Keigo turned to Yuki who gasped, her golden eyes widening.

“Me me me me me!” He knew that would make her happy.

“We should tell you something first, Hawks.” Shoto interrupted, taking a step forward.

“Don’t you guys have school soon? I’m sure it can wait.” He replied, picking the kid up and placing her on his shoulders.

Shoto and Fumikage shared a grim glance. “No, I feel this is important.”

“Relax, guys. Just enjoy your day at UA. You deserve it. Whatever you need to tell me you can tell me after flying practice with Yuki, okay?” Truth be told the blond was getting impatient, his wings were twitching with anticipation to fly.

The teens shared another indecipherable look. Well, we can’t just ruin his day. He’s in a good mood.

“Alright,” Fumikage sighed. “Have fun with Yuki, Hawks-sensei.”

“Thanks, little birb! See you two around!” And with that, the winged hero waved and lifted himself off the ground with Yuki in tow.

The two stared at the sky as the hero took off. Shoto frowned at the clouds. I’m sure this won’t bite us in the ass later.

“What’s it like to fly?” The redhead had asked one day as the couple laid on the grass of a secluded park—far from the two different words they inhabited.

Keigo turned to look at Touya. “Why would you like to know?” He teased, bringing his scarlet wings closer to his lover.

Touya smiled and closed his eyes against the blinding sun. “I feel like it would be freeing—isn't it? To just soar above the clouds and forget about all your problems. You’d be weightless. And no one could reach you.”

The blond laughed, resting his head on his boyfriend's chest.

“What’s so funny?”

“You. Flying is nice. But nothing lasts forever. Every time I have to remind myself that I’ll have to land eventually and return to reality. But I like to live with my head in the clouds.” He mused. “Don’t you have motion sickness? I doubt it’ll be very fun.”

Touya brought his arm around Keigo, pulling him closer. “True, but I’d still be willing to give it a shot one day.”

“Really?” The blond hoisted himself up, leaving the comfort of his lover's arms. He reached his arm out towards Touya. “Why not now?”

“What?” Touya opened his turquoise blue eyes.

“Fly with me, Touya,” Hawks smiled. “be free.”

The redhead accepted Keigo’s open hand and the two stood upon the field, the winged man opened his arms to his boyfriend. “How do you wanna do this? Want me to carry you like a princess?~”

Touya scoffed, blushing. “Can’t I wrap my arms around you or something?”

“Whatever you want, babe.”

He stepped closer to Keigo and awkwardly hugged him, his hands around his neck as he gripped his shirt for security. The blond placed his arms around Touya’s slim waist.

“Ready?” Keigo whispered in his ear, smiling against Touya’s hair.

“As I’ll ever be.”

Hawks lifted the two of them off the ground, making sure to start off slow for the sake of his boyfriend. The flap of his wings were soft as they ascended into the air. Touya’s breath hitched as his feet lost contact with the earth, he quickly hooked them around Keigo.

“Don’t worry, I’ve got you.” Hawks assured, pressing a kiss to his temple.

“How do you even do this?” Touya laughed nervously.

“It’s all in the muscle. And  I turn off my mind and the wings do the flying.”

Touya buried his face in Keigo’s shoulder, the winged man could feel his grin against his shirt. “This is weird,” the redhead mumbled. “I love it.”

The couple soared across the sky, above the park and through the city, avoiding the sight of everyone else but them.

The Todoroki had never felt freer—he was right. Flying felt incredible. He tried to calm his stomach and keep his contents inside. Other than that, the sensation was perfect. Especially in the arms of his lover.

“I’m not feeling so weightless right now,” Hawks joked with a flap of his wings. “Your heavy~”

“Oh, shut it,” Touya laughed.

“Flying feels better with you,” the blonde commented. “We should do this more.”

“Kei?”

“Yep?”

Touya brought his head in closer, squeezing his arms tighter. “I love you,” he said softly. “Thank you.”

Keigo smiled, hugging his boyfriend tighter as if he was going to lose him at any second. “Anytime.”

“I don’t understand,” Yuki pouted. “you make it look so easy.” She still had the Hawks plush in hand, gripping it tightly.

The two birds were at the same park Hawks and Touya used to visit together. He figured it would be the perfect place to teach her how to fly. The clearing was wide and open, but the trees that lined the property provided privacy. No one else was present but them.

“I’m telling you, Yuki. It’s all in the muscles,” Hawks pointed out, “kinda just like how you flap your wings when you're happy.”

“Yeah, but flapping doesn’t mean flying,” she whined. “I’m not strong enough to lift my feet off the floor!”

“Just relax, don’t focus too much. Sometimes emptying your mind helps.” Hawks suggested, demonstrating by hovering a few inches off the ground.

“Why can’t I just jump off of you, mister? That’s what you promised.”

“That’s too dangerous, birdie. You could seriously hurt yourself if you fall.”

“But how will I learn! I did it once and I was fine!”

Keigo sighed. He did make a deal with the kid after all. “Okay, I’ll let you jump off my shoulders once.”

“Yay!” Yuki ran over to the hero, holding up her toy. “Hold my Hawks for me.”

He complied, she scrambled up to his arm, settling on his shoulders. She balanced herself. “Ready?” Hawks nodded.

Without a second thought, the young girl leaped off, spreading her legs and arms out, her face concentrated as she willed her wings to move. Within a few moments Yuki landed on the frozen grass with a skid.

Hawks ran over to her to check if the four-year-old was alright. Yuki lifted her head from the ground and frowned. “I failed. I thought I was gonna fly.” She dusted the dirt and snow from her new clothes.

“You were pretty close, kid!” The blond assured her, handing her back her Hawks plushie.

“Really?!”

“Yep! You were off the ground for a tiny bit! You landed gracefully.”

“Yay!” Yuki bounced, smiling from ear to ear. “Let’s do it again!”

Hawks laughed. “I have a better idea.”

“Are you sure this is gonna work?” Yuki trembled from the tree branch, clutching the Hawks toy tightly.

“Don’t worry! I’m gonna catch you!” Hawks had his arms held out, standing just below the tree where he placed his four-year-old.

That’s how his father taught him to fly. By jumping off the tallest tree and hoping for the best. The only difference was that Hawks was intent on catching his daughter.

“Okay, I trust you.”

“Now jump!”

The red-headed child lept from the tree branch she was standing upon, her little red wings flapped weakly, slowing her fall until she landed right into Hawks’ embrace.

“Good job little bird!”

“But I didn’t fly...again,” She complained, snuggling into the hero’s hug. “you had to catch me.”

“Yes, but you could’ve fallen faster! You used your wings to slow down the momentum. And that’s progress.”

That made Yuki smile again.

“You’re a very fast learner,” Keigo remarked, placing the four-year-old back on the floor. “do you wanna give it another go?”

From the shadows a figure lurked, hidden behind the large forestry. They watched intently as the hero and the little girl practiced flying and having fun.

The mysterious figure gripped the trunk of the tree he was standing behind tightly, their shoulders tensed.

What are you hiding, Hawks? And who is that child beside you?
