Hawks finds a child
“Okay, Yuki~chan, would you rather…own a cat or a puppy?” Toga asked the young child as they walked hand in hand to a nearby park. The two League members just had to make up for the pancake incident by taking Yuki for ice cream. The toddler was just too adorable.
“Ummm...cat! I love cats!” The redhead chirped. “What about you, Twicey?”
“A puppy--no a cat!”
Toga sighed. “It’s impossible to play would you rather with you.” Yuki just giggled at the statement.
As they arrived at the public park the blonde spotted an ice cream stand, pointing at it excitedly. The villains were in disguise so they had no trouble approaching to order Yuki a treat. The four-year-old bounced happily upon arrival, chirping.
“What flavour do you want Yuki~chan?” Toga turned to her.
“Hmmm...strawberry it’s my favourite!”
The trio sat on a park bench, happily enjoying their ice cream. Yuki’s face was covered with the pink ice cream. Toga watched her happily eating an ice cream sandwich while Twice ate his chocolate-vanilla twist. The seven-teen-year-old never imagined being a villain would entail babysitting but in all honesty, she loved it. It almost beat stabbing people for their blood sometimes.
“What'd Ya wanna do after this, Yu?” Twice asked, finishing up his cold dessert.
“We can stay in the park if you’d like.” The blonde suggested. It was a beautiful day outside, making it a perfect opportunity to play. Anything to keep her busy while Dabi was away.
Twice and Toga were expecting her to want to play on the playground with the other children, instead, she frowned. “I wanna fly.”
“Fly?”
“Daddy never wants to talk about it. But I wanna use my wings! He says it’s too dangerous.” Yuki pouted sadly. “How else am I gonna fly if no one tells me how?”
Toga matched her frown. Dabi never talked about Yuki’s other father, so maybe that’s why he would avoid the subject with Yuki. None of the League knew who the father was but they can assume he was the one with the wings. Was Dabi afraid of wings? Of flying? He never shared his past that much.
“Sure we’ll teach you how to fly--no we won’t!”
“Really?!” Yuki exclaimed happily.
Twice shrugged. “I mean, how hard can it be?”
“I dunno...if Dabi doesn’t want her to then maybe we should respect his wishes…” Toga was also entirely unsure how to teach Yuki.
“ Please, ” The child pleaded. “I won’t tell Daddy!”
“It’ll be fun!” Twice smiled.
“Oh, alright…” Toga gave in. “Maybe jumping off from heights will help?”
“Like that big rock!” Yuki pointed happily to a large boulder, not one that was high enough to cause damage but enough for a head start.
“Be careful, Yuki~chan!” The blonde called out as the toddler ran towards the rock in sight. Twice and Toga watched as she climbed up the rock and without hesitation, proceeded to jump, trying to flap her tiny wings. It was her first attempt, so it was no surprise when Yuki face planted on the grass.
Toga gasped, wanting to make sure if the four-year-old was alright, but before she could react Yuki jumped up, smiling. “That was awesome!”
Toga let out a breath of relief. At least she’s not too upset about failing.
“I’m gonna look for some more stuff to jump off of!” Yuki claimed, shouting from a distance. Before either Twice or Toga could protest, she was gone. Vanishing from their sight.,
“Wait, Yuki!” Toga cried, jumping out of her seat to look for the redhead. “Yuki!”
Twice lept as well. “Yuki, come back!--go away!”
“She ran away! She’s so fast and we can’t see her beyond the tree line!” Toga worried, her eyes frantic as they tried to search for Yuki. “Dabi is gonna kill us!"
Yuki ambled directionless across the grass field. Am I lost? She had no clue. It was a spur of the moment decision to walk away from Twicey and Himi. But she just had to find something taller to jump off of! It was so much fun! She was sure they didn’t mind. The only problem was that she had lost sight of the park she originated from. Oh well!
Currently the four-year-old was running aimlessly, trying to spot something tall to practice on. Her running eventually brought her out of Japan’s parklands and towards the busier city. Yuki awed at all the new people.
Her running was cut short when she bumped into a wall and it hurt. Yuki’s nose stung as she made contact, and without opening her eyes she stepped away, on the verge of tears. “Owie!”
“Oh, sorry kid!”
Yuki opened her eyes and saw that it was not a wall she bumped into. He looked like a hero! The stranger was blond, tall, and had wings just like her! Daddy never let her look at heroes that much but she could tell by his clothing that he was one of them.
“Woah, you’re tall mister! You’re perfect for flying practice!”
The blond laughed. “Well look at that! You have red wings just like me!”
Yuki nodded happily. “I’m trying to learn how to fly!”
“Where are your parents, youngling?”
Yuki frowned and looked around. “I think I’m lost. I was with my Daddy’s friends and now I’m not.”
The hero knelt to her level. “Well I’ll help you find them, okay?” He held out his hands. “Pro Hero Hawks at your service!”
Hawks was not expecting to run into an abandoned child of all things during his routine patrol. The Number 2 hero always expected autographs, signings, pictures when he was out in public, not a toddler wanting to jump on him to practice flying.
He felt bad for the kid, he really did. She seemed lost and confused. And hey, maybe he sympathized with her more because she was also part bird.
The young girl hesitantly shook his hand and smiled. “I’m Yuki!”
Hawks froze. Yuki? That sounds an awful lot like Yukimara. Rei’s maiden name. (a fact he learned from becoming so close with Fuyumi) Now that he thought of it there were a lot of unsettling connections with this kid. For one she had eyes just like him. Golden amber, not to mention the scarlet wings sprouting from her back. Just like his. It couldn’t be, could it? That was impossible. But what confirmed it for Keigo was Yuki’s bright red hair. Much like Touya’s.
“U-uh who are your parent’s, kid? Might help me find them.” His heart was beating a mile a minute. Stop it Keigo, you’re just being paranoid. It’s only a coincidence this child looks exactly like you and your dead lover.
“I only have a Daddy!” She claimed proudly. Shit. “He doesn’t like me flying so I was practicing all by myself!!”
“C-cool, how old are you?”
“Four!”
Crap. Crap. Crap. Crap. Crap. There was no way this child wasn’t his! Everything added up. What do you do with that information???
“Are you gonna help me find my friends, mister?”
“S-sure, why don’t we go back to my place?” Aka Fuyumi. She’d know what to do!
Yuki stared at him coldly. “I dunno...Daddy says I shouldn’t follow strangers.”
“Awe, you can trust me! I’m a hero!” He flashed his hero license towards her curious gold eyes.
“Hmm...my Dad doesn’t like heroes…”
This has to be Touya’s daughter! Their daughter! It would only make sense if he didn’t like heroes! The only question it left was what the hell Touya was up to now.
“Well I can’t leave you here all alone, little bird! I’ll keep you company until we find them. I’ll even introduce you to my own friend, how's that?”
Yuki stared at him for a few more seconds, thinking it through. “Only if you let me jump off you so I can fly!!”
“Deal.”
