Miles:
6:25
When Miles walked into his boyfriend’s apartment, he was quickly ambushed by the most coordinated team of people he had seen in years.
A plucky magician charged him from the front and latched onto his right leg. A great thief leapt onto him from behind and ensured that he couldn’t escape from this situation. A scruffy yet handsome man wrapped his arms around Miles’s waist and pressed his forehead against Miles’s right temple.
It was the famous ‘hug attack’ technique that was widely utilized within this apartment. Miles had fallen victim to it before, but Sebastian’s laughter only heightened his happy exasperation.
“Good evening to all of you as well.” Miles replied as Kay let go of him after noticing Sebastian’s presence within the apartment.
“Hi Papa!! Why were you late today? Traffic got you bogged down?” Trucy all but jumped into Miles’s arms.
It still felt weird to be called that. ‘Papa’. She’s been calling Miles that ever since he and Phoenix had started officially dating. Before then, it had been ‘Uncle Edgeworth’. Before even that title, he had been ‘Napkin Man’. Though Miles still felt that he was far from a father-figure for Trucy, her new name for him was quickly growing on him.
Phoenix laughed and ruffled his daughter’s hair, “I’m sure it was traffic, Truce. It’s rush hour, plus your Papa had an...interesting ride here.”
As if on cue, Kay rushed forward and grabbed the bags out of Miles’s hands, “Oh, these are mine, right? Thanks Pop! These’ll really come in handy!”
‘Pop’ was another title he needed to get used to. Apparently, Kay also considered Miles to be a father-figure. This was somewhat less surprising than Trucy, given that Kay and Miles had known each other for years. But he still wasn’t used to this whole ‘being a dad’ thing.
‘Nevermind that,’ Miles thought as he reached to give Kay the final bag. ‘It’s now or never.’
“Kay, why do you even need so many fruits?” Miles asked.
Kay winked and said, “Well, that part is a secret. And a thief never reveals her secrets!”
Before Miles could get another word in edgewise, Kay grabbed Sebastian and raced upstairs. Miles sighed. If this was anything like Kay’s last surprise, it would end in a gigantic mess and Sebastian needing a new suit. Admittedly, though, the last surprise also ended with Trucy’s contagious laughter and a halfway decent science project.
Trucy grasped Miles’s hand and dragged him towards her room, breaking his train of thought, “Come on, Papa! It’s time for your and Daddy’s date! If you two don’t get out of here soon, you’re gonna miss the reservation!”
“Well then, Trucy, why are we going to your room?”
“I’m gonna make you look extra special!” Trucy closed her door behind her and reached into her magic panties. She pulled out a fresh cravat and a make-up set. She quickly got to work discarding his now soiled cravat (Miles would never look at a watermelon the same way again) and folding the new one.
Miles shook his head as Trucy reached for the make-up, “Sweetheart, I don’t use make-up. I’d rather just go as I am.”
“But you wear that same suit every day! If you’re not gonna change that, you should at least wear something else special. Like,” Trucy popped open the foundation and sat her father down in her desk chair, “make-up!”
Miles hadn’t worn make-up before, but he knew better than to stop a Wright from doing what they wanted to do. Trucy was just as stubborn as her father, though less aggravatingly so. She applied his foundation and blended the blush. Then, she did her best attempt at mascara and eyeliner. When Miles opened his eyes, he was greeted with squiggly, black outlines and clumps on his lashes. Trucy, though, didn’t seem to notice a problem as she asked him to make several embarrassing faces for his lipstick.
Eventually, Trucy had completed the look. And she gladly presented Miles to Phoenix, whose laughter nearly caused him to fall over. Only then did Trucy accept that Miles was a lost cause and begin removing his make-up.
6:45
Phoenix and Miles finally left the apartment, running about 20 minutes late for a reservation and starving. As they sat in the car, Phoenix struck up a conversation.
“How did Sebastian do today?”
Miles pondered that thought for a moment. While it was far from a smashing success, Sebastian seemed to have had a great time. His co-workers welcomed him with open arms, he didn’t immediately quit after the first team-bonding activity, and he almost finished his paperwork properly.
“He did well. The other prosecutors were...themselves, but Sebastian seemed to fit right in.”
Phoenix grinned and leaned his head against his boyfriend’s shoulder, “That’s great Miles. He called me last night freaking out about it. I told him that he’d be fine…”
Miles knew when Phoenix was trailing off purposefully. He didn’t need a magatama or psycho-locks to notice when his longtime partner and shorttime lover was hiding something.
“What is it, Phoenix?”
“...He called me ‘Dad’.” Phoenix looked up at Miles, his face filled with a softness only reserved for those who cared for the most. It was that softness that Miles fell in love with. It was that softness which re-assured Ms. Fey each and every time that she was thrown in prison. It was that softness which comforted Trucy and Kay. And now, that unique look was also associated with Sebastian.
“Hm, that’s interesting.” Miles responded.
Phoenix moved to sit up as the stoplight turned green, “It’s more than just ‘interesting’, Miles. It’s great! I mean, it’s almost like we’re already a fami-”
“Phoenix, don’t say it yet. Don’t jinx it before it’s even begun.”
The man opened his mouth to retort, before shutting it. They have had this discussion many times. Phoenix knew better than to press his luck.
“Ok, but I’m still really happy about it. And with today being what it is, I think we have a pretty good shot.”
Or maybe he didn’t.
“Patience, Phoenix. You’ve only just been reinstated .I’ve only been Chief Prosecutor for about four months. We never know what could happen.”
“I know. But I love you, Miles. I love the life that we’ve built together, even though nothing is set in stone. And I know that you do, too. So call me optimistic, but I’m ready to say the ‘f-word’.”
“And I am happy that you are. But I am not. Not yet, anyways. I love you and I love where we are right now. But I’m not ready for-”
“Ok, Miles. And I understand why. But whenever you’re ready to say the f-word, just know that I am, too.” Phoenix ended this discussion there and turned on the radio. As his boyfriend began badly singing along to the latest hits, Miles turned his attention back to the road.
...Family. Though Phoenix seems to be eager to label them with that word, Miles is far from that point. Honestly, Miles doesn’t think he’ll ever be completely ready to call his boyfriend and the gaggle of children that surround them...the f-word. But seeing Phoenix scream out the lyrics to a melodramatic love song made Miles feel alive in a way that nothing else did.
7:25
It had been a slow night at Table For Two, so Phoenix and Miles were seated quickly. Miles had selected a Ribeye for his steak of choice, while Phoenix asked the waiter about the differences between a Filet Mignon and a T-Bone Steak. Miles reached over and grabbed Phoenix’s hands.
“Happy anniversary, Phoenix.”
“Happy 1 Year, Miles.”
The two shared a blissful evening between two lovers. Sharing dinner, talking for hours, and existing with a mutual understanding of the love they share.
11:45
When Miles and Phoenix re-entered their home, they were greeted with an unexpected image; Kay quietly stirring what looked to be cake batter. She immediately motioned for them to be quiet and pointed towards the couch.
Sebastian and Trucy were curled up together, both fast asleep. Neither of them had even gotten out of their regular clothes. Trucy was still wearing an apron and Sebastian’s gloves were stained blue.
“I’m making a fruit tart! I figured that it was an appropriate way to start tomorrow morning, since tonight was so special.” Kay looked at Phoenix expectantly, smirking.
Miles responded, “I suppose that makes sense. Thank you, Kay. Would you like any help with it?”
“Why would you help with it, Pop? It’s your and Dad’s special night! And you two probably have loads to talk about, right?”
Phoenix walked over to Kay and clapped down on her shoulder, “Er, not really. Thanks for making such a great day-after-anniversary breakfast! I’ll get Sebastian and Trucy to bed. Miles, would you mind getting Trucy’s meds ready?”
Miles nodded and ducked into the hall bathroom. Phoenix kept his and Trucy’s medications together so that they could check that the other had taken everything they needed. Both father and daughter were rather forgetful.
After grabbing Trucy and Phoenix’s various bottles of medicine, Miles moved back to the kitchen. Kay was glaring at Phoenix as he sheepishly grinned.
“What are you two up to?” Miles asked.
Both Kay and Phoenix spun to face Miles. Phoenix was known for his poker face and Kay was a pretty good liar, but Miles could read both of them like a book. And right now, the words ‘We’re hiding something from you’ were all but written in bright red ink.
But Phoenix simply grabbed the medications from Miles and replied, “We aren’t hiding anything! Nothing big, anyways.” This only earned him another glare from Kay, which Miles mirrored.
“Phoenix, don’t try to lie to me.”
“Yeah, Dad! Don’t you have anything to ask Pop?” Kay playfully elbowed Phoenix in the side.
“Nope! Nothing at all! Kay, would you mind waking up Sebastian and Trucy? Sebastian and Miles still have to drive back to their place, and you should probably get to yours as well.”
Kay sighed, but did as she was told. She shook Sebastian awake and all but pushed him into Miles.
“There! Now you two get back to your apartment before I throw something at Dad!” Kay stalked back to her batter, stirring even harder now.
Sebastian blearily opened his eyes, “What’s going on? Are we in trouble?”
“No, Sebastian, though Mr. Wright might be if he doesn’t tell me what’s going on.” Miles glared at Phoenix.
“Oh, I wasn’t expecting you and Dad to come home so early. It’s only…” Sebastian searched for a clock.
“It’s 11:50. Which is very late, especially on a work night. We have to head back to our apartment.” Miles internally glossed over Sebastian’s wording.
Phoenix approached the pair, “Yeah, but you guys aren’t gonna have too much traffic. It’s way too late for people to be out.”
“Phoenix, you underestimate the city’s nightlife. It will be at least 25 minutes before we get back.”
Sebastian made his way to the front door, pulling Phoenix into a hug before walking out. Miles approached his boyfriend and gently kissed him.
“I love you, Phoenix. Even when you hide things from me.”
“I love you too. And trust me, it’s really nothing concerning. I would tell you if it was. Do you trust me?”
Miles didn’t even take a moment to think, “Absolutely. But I will discover the truth behind this, with or without your cooperation.”
“I don’t doubt that. Now, get driving! You still have work tomorrow.”
Miles groaned as he grabbed his keys and briefcase. Leaving the building, he entered his car and got ready for the long journey home.
“I’m gonna go to sleep.” said Sebastian, leaning his head against the window.
“Sebastian, move your seat down and try to sleep on your back. Sleeping on the window will be impossible with the bumpy road ahead.”
Sebastian yawned, “Ok. Good night. I’ll see you at home.”
Miles smiled to himself and began driving, careful to avoid as many potholes and sewer grates as possible.
12:30
At an ungodly hour, Miles and Sebastian had finally arrived at their apartment. Sebastian kicked off his shoes in the sitting room and stumbled back to his room.
Miles changed into more appropriate sleepwear, took his medicine, and went to sleep.

6:00 AM
If the Steel Samurai theme song wasn’t his alarm, Miles Edgeworth simply wouldn’t wake up in the morning. He silenced the notification and prepared for whatever chaotic misadventures lay ahead of him today.

Kay:
6:30 AM
Kay kicked down her Dad’s door and smashed his stupid fruit tart into his stupid face.
“Take this, coward!”
He seemed to be suitably startled, “Kay? It’s, like, 6 in the morning. What are you doing?”
“Telling you that you’re a coward and smashing a fruit tart in your face, duh! Now pull it together! Wanna tell me what happened last night? Did you really chicken out that badly, coward?”
“Kay,” the old, cowardly attorney sighed, “I don’t think it’s time yet. I mean, we’ve only been dating for a year.”
Kay rolled her eyes, “Yeah! But you’ve been in love with each other for a lot longer. Seriously, you two are the worst!”
“I don’t want to make any commitments until we’re both comfortable. You get that, right?”
“What are you talking about?! You’re both clearly in love, you have your job back, and you guys have been dating for a pretty long time! What more do you want, Dad?”
“It’s not about what I want…”
That peaked Kay’s attention, “Did Pop say something dumb again?”
“No! Well, it wasn’t dumb.”
Dad sighed and stared down at what remained of his breakfast. Kay knew that something was wrong! She just had to steal the truth he was trying so desperately to hide!
“What was it? Was it something about his job? Was it something like,” Kay put on her best ‘Miles Edgeworth: Pretentious Prosecutor’ impression, “Ngoohh, I can’t be seen dating a defense attorney because I’m a prosecutor, even though I let Klavier date Apollo for a few months. I’m a dumb hypocrite, ngoohhhhhh.”
Kay’s impression continued, until her Dad finally responded, “No. It’s just that...he isn’t ready to actually call us his family yet.”
Well, that explains it.
“So you decided not to propose to him! After we spent all that time planning! Ugghhhhh!”
“Kay, I know that you don’t necessarily get it, but-”
“I do get it, though! At least, I kinda do. But I don’t think he’ll ever be 100% ready, so you both need to get over yourselves! Just jump in the deep end! Rip off the band-aid!”
Dad rubbed the back of his neck, “I know. And...I will. Just, not yet.”
Kay groaned, but left her Dad alone. She knew how stubborn he could be, he was a lot like Pop in that way, so she knew there was no point in arguing any more.
She just hoped that things would finally take a turn for the better, after what happened 8 years ago. While things had been getting a lot less agonizing, a happy ending wasn’t coming fast enough enough for Kay’s liking.
But she put on her jacket and left his apartment, shouting a goodbye as she exited.
Kay chuckled to herself as she pulled out her phone texted the ‘Unofficial Edgeworth-Wright Siblings’ groupchat. If neither of her parents were going to take another step towards a better life, she would simply give them a push.

Caw-Caw Bitches: Obviously, last night didn’t go as planned. But that just means we need to step up our efforts!
Sebastian: Ok! Was it my fault? If so, sorry.
Caw-Caw Bitches: Of course not, Sebby. By the way, you need to change your name. It’s dull.
Sebastian: Why? I happen to think that my name is the best!
Caw-Caw Bitches: That one’s my fault, so I’ll let you have it. Trucy, any thoughts?
Sebastian (The best name): Kay, she’s at school.
Caw-Caw Bitches: That’s really what you changed your name to?
Sebastian (The best name): Yep!
Caw-Caw Bitches: Sebby, I say this with all of the love in the world: YOURE SUPER LAME.
Sebastian (The best name): Hey!
Caw-Caw Bitches: Anyways, we need to plan. Getting Dad to propose is gonna be harder than I thought.
Real Life Magical Girl: I have an idea!
Sebastian (The best name): Trucy! You’re supposed to be in class!
Real Life Magical Girl: I know, but I saw my phone buzzing and figured it was you two. I have a plan on getting Daddy to propose to Papa, but it might take a lot of behind-the-scenes work.
Caw-Caw Bitches: ‘Kay! What’s the plan?
Real Life Magical Girl: First, we’re gonna need to bring in the big guns!
Real Life Magical Girl has added *my chords aren’t the only thing that’s steel* to the group chat
Real Life Magical Girl: Hi, Polly! When are you planning on visiting again?
