Wanna go smoke?
“Are you gay?” JJ blurts out without thinking. Lucas laughs a little at the question earning a confused look from JJ. “Yeah, im gay. Why?” Lucas replies, looking at JJ who looks like he's gonna die from embarrassment. “Really??” JJ asks as if he doesn't believe him “What you think I'm lying about being attracted to men?” Lucas asks with another laugh “Are you gay?” Lucas asks JJ in return “Yeah I am, well I’m bi but..” JJ says, face red. “I'm uh, trans too..” JJ says looking up at Lucas, searching his face for any sign of disapproval. “Oh, cool” Lucas says, normally that response would make JJ feel like he wasn't accepted, but coming from Lucas he liked it, he didn't want him to make a big deal out of it. He just needed to know it was okay.
“Wake up Idiots” Violet says through the boys door with a laugh. They both get out of bed with a groan, since moving in with Dottie and Theo they've had to get used to waking up earlier to do chores and eat breakfast with everyone, they didn't mind too much.. Small price to pay for shelter and warm meals. Everyone eats breakfast at the table, then they do their daily chores. Today JJ cleaned up the house a bit while Violet and Dottie made some kind of fruit jelly. Lucas fed, watered and gave the animals fresh hay. The sooner everyone got done with everything the sooner they could relax and do whatever they wanted. It was honestly a really nice way to live. Minimal electronics, no constant screen time (although JJ would be lying if he said he didn't miss playing video games), they all had their set chores and they lived with nothing but nature around them, completely home grown and organic meals. It was refreshing.
“Wanna go smoke?” Lucas asked JJ, his tone seemed kind of suspicious, as if he was planning something else, but JJ fully trusted Lucas, they had been friends for a while now, the two protected each other, they kept each other company, comforted each other. They had really grown fond of one another and formed a really special connection. JJ cant help but be sad that it's not more than a friendly connection, yeah Lucas is touchy with him and kisses his forehead sometimes, and one time they held hands but they’re just friends, right?
JJ follows Lucas to the front porch where they usually smoke but to his surprise Lucas keeps walking, he walks towards the barn where they keep the animals. “Why are we smoking here instead of the porch? I can sit down over there.” JJ says as he takes the cigarette Lucas is holding out to him. “I don't know, thought a change of scenery might be nice” Lucas says, not making eye contact with JJ. “Hey are you alright? You seem kind o-” JJ starts, quickly cut off by Lucas, kissing him? The kiss isn't very long, only a few seconds but stuns JJ nonetheless. “Sorry I uhh..” Lucas says as he clears his throat. “Did you just?” JJ asks, fingers pressed to his own lips, not being able to process what just happened. “Kiss you? Yeah..” Lucas says with a light laugh, both boys faces red. “So do you uh like, like me or was it just to try it or..?” JJ asks. “God you're such an idiot. Yes dude I like you.” Lucas says as if he had been making it obvious, you can't blame JJ for thinking the things he was doing was just friendly. “Seriously?!” JJ asks with wide eyes. “Yes, you’re terrible at taking hints so I thought I’d make it obvious enough for you to wrap your head around. Yes JJ, I like you, romantically and shit.” Lucas says looking at the ground, clearly embarrassed. “I like you too!!” JJ says with enthusiasm “Good. I was starting to think you were subtly rejecting me by ignoring my hints at it.” Lucas says with a laugh “So.. what are we?” JJ asks, looking up at Lucas. “Boyfriends? I mean if you want to be my boyfriend of course..” Lucas says, looking down at JJ and bringing his hand up to the boy's face “Yes!! I’d love to be your boyfriend!!” JJ says as he stands on his tip toes, silently telling Lucas he wanted another kiss.
Dottie watches as the two boys walk back from the barn, secretly seeing the whole thing. “Ah young love..” She says to herself with a smile, mentally noting that she’ll have to make them a cake or something later. “Wait, Lucas.” JJ says stopping in his tracks. “Hm?” Lucas says, stopping as well and looking over to JJ. “So can we tell people or keep it a secret?” JJ asks him nervously. “Tell them.” Lucas replies quickly “What if they don't support it or-” JJ starts but he's quickly interrupted by Lucas “Then we leave. We have a good situation here but my boyfriend is more important.” He says as he smiles down at JJ. ‘my boyfriend’ JJ repeats Lucas’ words in his head, feeling fuzzy and warm, he never had a boyfriend or any relationship before so everything was new to him, but he already loved it.
