Morning boys!
JJ and Lucas are woken up by a knock at their door. Dottie enters their room with a smile on her face "Morning boys! I made breakfast if you're hungry" She says as the boys slowly get out of bed "Yes please, i'm starving" Lucas says as he walks past her and down the stairs into the kitchen JJ following close behind him. "Mornin." Theo grunts as he sits at the table drinking his coffee and doing a crossword. "How did you boys sleep?" Dottie asks as she plates their breakfast. "I slept great, I was exhausted." JJ said as he yawns and pulls out two energy drinks for him and Lucas. "Gotta have some chores." Theo says, earning a confused look from both the boys as they eat their breakfast. "We got plants and animals here. Somebody helps in the garden and the other with the animals." Theo continues. "Oh, I can do either or both, I'm decent at gardening" JJ says with a small smile, not wanting to get kicked out of a home with working power and homemade breakfast. "I can do either too, I'm also decent at any mechanical work." Lucas says. "Alright, uhh short one (JJ) you can help Dottie with the garden, mostly carrying vegetables, she's got a bad back. Taller one (Lucas) you can help me with the animals." Theo tells them. "My name is JJ by the way, that's Lucas" JJ says not appreciating being called "Short one"
After they eat breakfast JJ heads to the garden to help Dottie and Lucas follows Theo to the barn. "Alright dear, I mostly got everything but I would appreciate if you could water the plants and pick them. The watering can gets pretty heavy." Dottie says with a smile, pointing to the green watering can on the ground. JJ picks it up and heads to the side of the house, searching for a hose or something. "Ah shit." Jj says as he bumps into Lucas, causing him to drop the watering can. Lucas laughs at him before picking it up and handing it to him. "So what's she got you doing?"Lucas asks JJ. "Not too much, just watering and picking the plants" he replies. "Ah, Theo has me just feeding the animals and refilling the hay, thankfully he isn't making me mop up the shit" he says with a laugh, Lucas helps JJ fill up the watering can before he grabs the hose and drags it towards the animals. "Alright, just water them a bit, nothing too much, don't wanna drown them." Dottie says with a small laugh. JJ pretty quickly finishes watering them and looks over at Dottie for a sign of approval, she's holding up a thumbs up paired with a sweet smile. "Alright, next part shouldn't be too hard, just grab all the plants that are full grown and put them in here" She says as she hands JJ a fairly big basket. He gets to work moving leaves around and picking all the plants that look grown. When he's done, he walks towards the front door, when he gets inside he sees Lucas at the fridge, loading eggs from in a similar basket. JJ washes all the fruits and vegetables and puts them into small green containers inside the fridge.
"How was work?" Lucas asks with a laugh as they both lay in bed next to each other. "It was good, not very hard. You?" JJ asks in return "It was alright, think the old man is warming up to me a bit." Lucas says with a proud smile on his face "I've always wanted to live on a farm, collecting plants that I grew, surrounded by animals." JJ says as he turns to face Lucas. "I haven't. Seemed like hell, but it's pretty refreshing considering the situation, no worries of running out of food randomly" Lucas replies as he scoots closer to JJ, Putting his arm underneath JJ's head allowing him to lay on his chest. "You smell like animals" JJ says with a laugh as he gets closer to Lucas. "Shut up, you smell like dirt." Lucas says jokingly, giving JJ a small push.
"Boyssss" JJ and Lucas wake up at the sound of them being called. They both get up and head downstairs. "Hey granny, sorry we must of fell asleep." JJ says as he yawns and rubs his eyes, "That's okay sweetheart, I bet you boys need the sleep. But I made some lunch!" She gestures to the two plates on the table. It wasn't anything special, just a grilled cheese and some fruit but considering the circumstances of the world around them, they were pretty damn lucky. Lucas grabs himself and JJ an energy drink before he sits down and they both eat their food, thanking Dottie for being so sweet, not only is she letting them stay at her home but she's making them 3 meals a day too.
"I wanted to ask you boys about something." She says, making both the boys slightly nervous. "So, my back problems have only gotten worse recently and my medication is almost out. There's a pharmacy not too far down the street, would you boys be willing to pick some up for me?" She asks, in an almost defeated tone, as if she's embarrassed to ask for it. "Of course we can. Just give me some directions and we'll go get it after we've finished eating." Lucas says before JJ can even respond "Thank you sweetheart, I would go get it myself or send Theo but with our ages, I'm afraid something would happen." She continues. "Of course granny, it's the least we can do for you." JJ says with a smile.
"Alright it should be about 10 minutes down this street, on your left, it's pretty close and you can't miss it, here's the medication I take" Dottie says as she hands Lucas a medication bottle through the truck's window. He hands the bottle for JJ to look at and gives her a nod as he starts the truck. "Ready to kill some zombies?" Lucas asks JJ in a sarcastic tone, earning a laugh from JJ but honestly JJ was prepared for the worst. They arrive at the pharmacy and it seems pretty normal, no one is there, no zombies or anything. Lucas goes in first, quietly opening the door and peeking inside. "Dude what is that?" JJ whispers, hearing a faint rustling sound. Lucas walks towards the source of the sound and kicks the door leading to the back of the pharmacy. "Stop right there." A girl says. She's looks their age, she's around 5 '3 (a little taller than JJ), she has straight black hair and a bow in her hand, ready to release an arrow right into Lucas' face. "Hey, we're just here for medicine, it's okay." JJ says as he hands her the medicine bottle as proof. He drops his axe and lowers Lucas' gun, The girl lowers her bow as well, giving him a hesitant nod.
JJ looks for the medication white Lucas and the girl just stare at each other. "So uh.. What's your name, how old are you?" JJ asks hesitantly, trying to break the tension a little bit. "Violet, I'm 16." the girl says, not taking her eyes off Lucas. "Oh cool, I'm JJ. I'm 16, and that's Lucas, 17." JJ says introducing the two of them. "Where do you guys stay?" Violet asks them. "Oh uh, we stay at-" JJ starts before Lucas interrupts him "Dude we can't trust her." Lucas says, still staring at Violet. "She's just scared, just like we were when we had nowhere to go." JJ says "We stay at a ranch up the road. Dottie told me if I found anyone I trusted they were welcome to stay. You should come with us" JJ says, earning a mean look from Lucas. "That would be really great, thank you." Violet says letting down her guard. "It's nice to meet you guys, I'm sorry for being so hostile at first, just on edge." Violet says as she reaches her hand out to JJ.
