The Arts Club.
The day was a blur to him.
Getting glares from the music club.
Drew not talking to him.
Liam and Henry looking sad.
All a blur.
He looked at the library and he felt scared.
What if they were horrible people.
What if one of them were like Zander.
Pushing the thoughts aside, he opens the door.
There was Chloe smiling gently as she waited for him.
Her kind smiling face was always a shock given the way she dresses.
"Jake!" She hugged him.
He probably looked awkward to the battlefield others as he patted her back as he blushed out of embarrassment.
"Everyone! This is the potential new member that I have described to you." She talked out to the others.
A very tall female with ginger hair and brown eyes smiled at him. She was dressed up like a lumberjack and even has a few freckles on her cheeks. She waved her hand at him.
"I'm Michelle Williams. Nice to meet ya, Jake."
"Michelle here is a member of the drama part of this beautiful club. She does the costumes and she is also my cousin. We do plays here a lot especially when it's parts of books that we have in the library. My favorite has to be the time we did the Tempest." Chloe explained, excitedly as she pointed to some of the pictures that were in the library.
Jake raised an eyebrow.
"Did it have a weird blue fairy thing?" He asked, repeating Henry's words.
It happened when he was with the Music Club after lunch. Henry and Liam were explaining about the play that they saw in the library as Drew sighed and tried to explain what the play really was but the two were too loud and he didn't heard him properly.
"Yes it did. Their name is Ariel, not the little mermaid mind you. I got to play as them. I still have the costume in the back of the library somewhere, the wings were a bit too big to carry home on a bus." Chloe confirmed, as she started to think about her costume.
Jake sighed.
Another thing he missed because of the Music Club.
Was it really the right decision to go with them?
Shaking his head, he decided to ask the thing that was bothering him a little.
"Their?" He wondered out loud.
"It was supposed to be a man at first as in all textual versions, Ariel is referred to with the male pronoun 'his' twice in the entire play. One example is in the stage directions at III.iii.around 52: "Thunder and lightning. Enter ARIEL, like a harpy; claps his wings upon the table; and, with a quaint device, the banquet vanishes." and another when Ariel responds to Prospero but in the beginning in Restoration adaptations, it would have been played by a woman." Chloe explained to him, clearly excited about the chance she was getting to talk about the play.
Wow.
He didn't know that, Chloe must have a lot of knowledge about Literature.
"Also, the male actor Leslie French played the part in 1930, the role has been played by both men and women. In the 2010 Julie Taymor film version of the play, Ariel is played by Ben Whishaw, but in that same year's Stratford Shakespeare Festival version of the play, also filmed and available on DVD, Ariel is played by Julyana Soelistyo. In the Summer of 2013, Colin Morgan played Ariel in the Globe Theatre in London." She recalled as she counted them off on her fingers.
"Impressive as always, huh CJ?" A female voice said from behind them which seemingly startled CJ who jumped up a little bit.
He turned to see another girl, this time with dyed pink hair that were tied up in ponytails. She had a lolita style of dress and pink makeup to match her clothing, the opposite to Chloe's way of dressing.
"I'm Ivy Quinn. It's a pleasure to meet you, Jake." She bowed lightly to him.
"Ivy is one of the artist here. She likes to do both digital and physical art. Some of her drawings are displayed here." Chloe explained as she pointed to the horror type drawings in the horror book section of the library.
It's always the sweet looking ones, isn't it.
"Not only that I like to act as well. It's really a pity that the school didn't let me choose the two clubs I wanted to go but if I did, I wouldn't have been able to meet these guys." Ivy smiled, looking at her group members.
"That is very much the truth, Ivy." A male redhead dressed similarly to Chloe walked out said.
"Kain Montagne. Nice to meet you, Jake." He held out his hand.
Jake shook it and Kain smiled before going back to sitting on a couch in the further side of the library.
"Kain is another actor here and makeup artist. He played Caliban in the latest play and he does the makeup for the cast to make it more realistic." Ivy added to give context.
Jake looked confused.
"I played an 'bad guy' in the play who looked like a monster. I'm not really like that but...." He shrugged before holding up a picture of how he looked.
Jake laughed when he saw the picture so he didn't see the other redhead walked up to them, cleaning a paintbrush.
"I'm Keith, Kain's brother and we're triplets." Keith said, waving a blue hand.
Keith looked very much like Kain but Keith had part of his hair dyed black, half and half, and he more colorful clothing than his brother and currently an apron covered in various green and blue paint.
"I'm also an actor here but also an artist in both physical and digital." He scratched his head before pointing to the still life paintings in the front of the library, one of which was still wet.
"I played Prospero in the last play we did. I'm not too happy about it. As he is a old man." He explained rolling his eyes.
Jake covered his mouth to stop his laughing as Keith scowled.
"I think that you looked your part when Kain did the make up." A voice said as the owner of the voice made themselves known.
"I'm Kiyoka. I'm the other sibling." A redhead female in the back waved to him.
Kiyoka the sister to Kain and Keith.
She was the final piece of the siblings.
She smiled at him from her hiding spot by the desk to checkout the books to carry home.
"I'm the sound effects girl. So during the plays of it has thunder or even a cat meowing, it's up to me get the perfect sound." She smiled, proudly.
"Anthony is not here today, unfortunately. He's kind of monotone and out of it but he's a great guy and also the one who is the brains. There are also a couple others that are missing but that's because they either have detention or are missing a day." Chloe sighed as if this was a normal occurrence.
"Anthony is the DJ incase we plan to use some type of music." Ivy added with a bland expression.
"But his sister is here, meet Chica Emily." Michelle said as she pointed out to the brown haired girl with piercing grey colors, he assumed to be Chica who waved her hand and smiled in response.
She seemed to be the mischievous kind.
"Chica here likes to play the flute." Kain added as he watched his brother paint
"I do indeed." She laughed.
"Why is a musician here?" Jake asked.
Chica stops smiling.
"The music club doesn't accept everyone, you know." She admitted sadly.
"But that is not going to stop me. I want everyone to appreciate how good a flute can play." She yelled as the group cheered.
Jake perked up.
"Can I hear it?" He asked.
"Of course, I'll love to play for you." Chica happily agreed.
She pulled out her flutes and chooses one.
"This is Withered Dreams. Personally one of my favorites to play to calm down."
Everyone quieted down and sat around Chica to hear her play.
It was beautiful.
Chica was skilled at the flute, he didn't see why Chica was not accepted into the music club.
The song itself was calming.
He looked around to see everyone sitting and listening to the music.
"That was as beautiful as always, Chica." Ivy clapped.
"Thank you, Thank you. My adorable and lovely fans." Chica laughed as she bowed.
"I don't understand why they didn't let you in."
"It's simple really. They only take in people who they think are the best for their band." Chica sighed, sadly.
"Yeah."
Jake sighed heavily as he sat on the couch next to Kain.
"For the past month I'd go to lunch then straight to the club to practice for the band competition. I guess I'll just be joining you guys for today, since I don't seem to have anywhere else to go." He lamented.
Kain reassured him by patting his back.
"Well then, welcome to our humble little home!" He grinned.
"You're welcome to join us whenever you like, Jake." Chloe added.
Jake raised his head, surprised.
"You're saying, you're cool if I come back...?"
Michelle nodded.
"Of course, my dear. You're always welcome back here!"
"...Even if I don't join?" Jake asked, looking away.
" Even if you don't want to join," Kain ruffled his already messy hair.
"Either way, it's great to meet you, Jake!" Kiyoka said as she got up and wrapped her arm around Jake's shoulder.
Keith gives a thumbs up from his spot where he was painting again.
"It was rather lovely to meet you, Jake. I don't mind it if you came by more often." He huffed still having all attention on his artwork.
Jake gave them each a shy smile before turning away. He was taken aback by how welcoming they were to him.
They'd only met today and yet…they had no problem inviting him back.
CJ even knew what he did to get kicked out but she didn't seem to care.
"Besides, technically Anthony and Stacy are not members of the group. Anthony just comes to see Kain and decided to stay in our humble little family. Stacy just comes here to stay away from Luke and Zander." Ivy added as Kain tried to deny the fact that Anthony comes to see him alone.
Keith makes fun of them and it starts a fight which CJ stops by punching them both in the head.
Jake could see why they have Chloe as their leader while in the background said girl was scolding the two brothers as they knelt on the floor with their hands up in the air.
Jake's phone suddenly buzzed.
It was Milo telling him that he and their mom were there to pick him up.
“Sorry, my mom texted me, I think she’s wondering where I am.” Jake said, standing up from his spot on the couch.
"It's alright, Jake."
"I guess I shouldn't keep you waiting." Chloe said to him.
"Bye bye." Michelle waved.
"Byyyyyeeeeee." Chloe yelled.
"Bye." Ivy said softly.
"Au revoir, Jake." Kiyoka waved.
"See you soon." Keith said from his spot on the ground.
"Ciao!" Kain waved his two alright raised hands.
"Sayōnara!" Chica yelled as she waved goodbye to him.
A small bit of that weight had somehow dissolved. Jake felt like his talk with the club had something to do with that.
He’d have to thank them tomorrow.
