Their first fight and Carson's second love.
"You forbid it?!"
"Yeah, I fucking forbid it! You can't fucking work with her!"
Greta was moving up in the cosmetic world, working for Vivienne Hughes. She had been selected to help with a client who is on the high end of society. It was a big deal that she was selected personally. The only thing was that this client was Carson's ex-fiance and the event was her wedding to Charlie, Carson's oldest friend.
"Fuck you Carson, this is a huge oppertunity for me. I'm not walking away from it."
"Fine, then I'm walking away from you." Carson stormed out of Greta's house as Maybelle and Joe arrived. Greta had called Jo about the good news and as she was on her way told her that Carson broke up with her and it didn't really end well.
"Hey Cars..."
Carson ignored her which was very unlike her. She looked pissed and it almost scared Maybelle. She was one of the nicest people ever but before she could even apologize and say 'hi', Jo decked her in the face.
"What the hell?"
"That's for hurting Greta, asshole!" Carson's nose started to gush blood as she started to walk to her car. It didn't feel broken but it didn't feel great either. "Don't fucking walk away from me!" Jo grabbed Carson's arm to swing her around and Carson went for the punch but Jo was able to duck and tackled Carson. Jo went to punch her again when she heard her name.
"Jo!" Greta came out the front when she heard the yelling. "What did you do?" Greta went to Carson's side. Carson's white shirt was now turning red. She stood up and started to walk to her car, luckily the house had a semi-private driveway so no one could see what was happening.
"It's true. I'm a dick. I'm leaving now." There wasn't sarcasm behind her words, Greta knew that she meant it, that she believed it.
"Good. It's your turn to fuck off." Jo was red with fury while Greta started to cry, wanting to follow Carson to her car.
"Don't bother Bird."

They went into the house and Jo grabbed an ice pack for her hand.
"Fuck, that hurt. But it also felt good." Jo was opening and closing her hand. Greta ran to the bathroom, Jo and Maybelle heard her throw up and walked into her crying on the floor.
"What exactly happened?" Maybelle went to her side and started to rub her back.
"I took this amazing opportunity at work and apparently my client is Carson's ex-fiance. She flipped out and walked away." She didn't want to talk about the yelling match they had earlier.
"Whoa. After what happened between them, I would have been mad too." Greta looked at Maybelle with confusion. "Did you not hear the story?" Greta and Jo shook their heads. "It was all over the news and internet. She was the laughing stock of the country, and ended up not finishing the season." Greta wanted her to get on with her story. Maybelle took a deep breath and pulled up an article on her phone.
Carson Shaw Jumbotron Heartbreak
Carson Shaw, 10 of the Rockford Peaches was in for a surprise at last night's game when her, now ex, fiance was seen kissing Charlie Rogers. Rogers and Shaw have been friends for years and Beth and Shaw have been engaged for the last year.
Greta stopped breathing. She remembered hearing about the incident but didn't realize that it was Carson.
"Like I said, she took off the rest of that season and kind of disappeared. She came back for Spring Training and that's when it seemed that she had a different woman on her arm each time she was seen in public." Greta finished reading the article and started to cry when her phone chimed.
"It's Fuck Face." Jo glanced at Greta's phone. Greta took a deep breath and read the message that seemed more like a short story.
C: I hope you get this before you block my number. I want to apologize for my behavior. It's not my place to tell you what to do. This is a huge opportunity and I should be happy for you. I'm sure you've been told the story by now and I severely over reacted. I don't expect anything from you and if Jo hasn't started burning all my things, I can come by and pick them up later. I can drop your things off as well. I obviously have some shit I need to figure out but I wasn't lying when I said I love you. You do deserve love and happiness.
Greta started to cry and crawled to the toilet to throw up again. She left the text open and Jo read it out loud.
"What an ass."
*****
A few days later, Jo was over for a movie night.
"Is it wrong that I still want to be with her?" Greta passed the ice cream container to Maybelle.
"Abso-fucking-lutely! Greta, she's an asshole. You are not going back to her." Jo puffed her chest.
"You're really going to sit there and do the same thing she just did? When did everyone get to tell me what I can and can't do?" Jo went silent and Greta started to text Carson.
G: Can I come over?
C: Door's unlocked.
Greta grabbed her keys and walked out the door, telling Jo where she was going and that if she tried to interfere there would be hell to pay.
On the way to the house Greta tried to prepare a speech. She had things she wanted, no, needed to tell Carson. She parked in the driveway and walked into the house. She saw a box with her stuff in it, including a little box that wrapped.
"Carson?" She went to the kitchen but she wasn’t there. She was walking to the living room when she saw her outside. “Carson?” She stood up way too fast, knocking over her beer.
“Greta.” It was a whisper. “I…” But before Carson could get anything out Greta walked up to her and pulled her into a deep kiss. All of the sudden Carson was in the pool, sinking to the bottom. She was still wearing her clothes, including her jeans, hat and her Vans. She looked up and saw Greta slowly walking towards her, she already had her pants and shirt off.
Carson was still at the bottom of the shallow end when Greta reached her. She pulled her up by her arm. Carson’s hair plastered her face, her hat was floating around her.
“Talk. Now.” Greta was firm and Carson didn’t know what the outcome of the situation could be and was a little worried.
“I know you know the story by now. I have nothing to say except that I’m sorry and I love you. But what I did, the way I yelled, isn't acceptable. I trust you but Beth messed me up too much to be able to be secure. It’s on me.”
“Carson, listen to me. I love you too. And I’m taking this opportunity but I don’t want to lose you. You were a dick to me and you really fucking hurt me.” Greta started to cry. “Maybe I’m crazy, but I can’t think about not being with you.” She pulled Carson in and kissed her again. “You will never talk to me like that again, ever. And if you do, you won’t have to deal with me, you’ll deal with Jo. And I won’t be there.” Carson nodded and Greta kissed her again. It was deeper, more passionate.
