Chapter 34
"Remind me again why you've put me on bed rest?" Sebastian sighs, as he pulls the covers up over him.
It's eleven in the morning on a Saturday, and Chris has ordered him to stay in bed, putting him on bed rest. Usually he'd be fine with staying in bed, but today all he wants to do is stay out of bed.
"Because you're eight - nearly nine - months pregnant with twins and you can barely walk." Chris says. "And you could pop any day now."
"The twins aren't due for another three weeks, nearly a month." Sebastian says. "I'll be fine."
Or maybe he won't be. He's not told Chris because he doesn't want to worry him, but he thinks he may have started having contractions earlier this morning.
Though they haven't returned yet, so maybe it was just false labor pains? He certainly hopes they were. He's not ready yet to have these babies.
"Seb, you heard what your midwife had said last week." Chris starts, folding his arms across his chest. "There's a chance that the twins may come early."
Sebastian sighs, sitting back in bed. He knows very well that that's true. The twins could arrive any day now. And judging by what he thinks might've been labor pains earlier this morning, the twins will arrive any day now.
"Now, I got to go out. I've called Anthony so he can come over and keep an eye on you and the girls." Chris says. "I probably won't be home until later in the afternoon."
This gets Sebastian's attention. "What?" He asks. "Why the hell are you going out today?"
He's not aware of anything for work that Chris has to go to, so why the fuck does he all of a sudden need to go out somewhere? And he won't be home until later?
Now that he hears that Chris is going somewhere today, he's not so sure it's a good idea if he should. Especially not when he may have been having contractions earlier this morning....
"No reason." Chris says. "I just need to go across town to pick something up for work."
And for some reason, Sebastian isn't too sure if he believes him or not. What the hell does he need to pick up from across town for work that takes the whole day to pick up? It's certainly not something from his boss's place, he doesn't live very far away from them.
"Chris..." Sebastian sighs, sitting up. "Are you lying to me?"
Chris looks at Sebastian in confusion. "Why would I lie to you?"
Okay, he's absolutely lying to Sebastian. But for a very good reason. He's going off to the airport to pick up Sebastian's mother. It's supposed to be a surprise for Sebastian between him and Georgeta.
"Seb, honey. I promise I'm not lying to you." Chris assures him. "And I'll see you later. Anthony will be here soon."
Sebastian sighs, knowing he won't get anything out of Chris about where he's going. Which is rather annoying. He's not very fond of surprises, and would rather if Chris just told him where the fuck he's going.
He doesn't like not knowing....
Though he has a feeling that Anthony might know where Chris is off to. Maybe he can get an answer out of Anthony? Or maybe not.... Chris probably has him sworn to secrecy. Fucking alphas....
"You know I don't like not knowing, Chris...." He sighs, sitting back in bed.
"I know you don't." Chris says, walking over to Sebastian's side to lean down and kiss him on the cheek. "But you gotta trust me."
Sebastian sighs, shaking his head. "I do trust you, Chris." He says. "And does Anthony really need to come over?" He asks. "I don't need a damn babysitter."
"I know you don't." Chris assures him. "But it would make me feel much better knowing that he's here to keep an eye on you and the girls."
Sighing, Sebastian shakes his head. He knows that Chris is just trying to do what he thinks is best. And it's probably for the better if Anthony does come over anyway. There's no way that he'd be able to get himself to the hospital by himself if anything were to happen, as well as dealing with the girls.
"Fair enough." He sighs. "I'd rather you just stay here though, Chris." He says. "Or at least tell me why you really need to go out."
"Like I said, I just need to go across town to pick something up." Chris says. "And I need to stop off and talk with Steve about work stuff."
Actually, he doesn't. But Sebastian doesn't need to know about that.
"Okay." Sebastian says. "Just go then. And don't take too long. Please."
"I'll try not to." Chris promises. "But I might not be back until late afternoon."
He's not really sure when exactly he'll be back, Georgeta's plane doesn't come in until around two, so it's likely he won't be home until around five. Depending on how bad the traffic is, and if they need to stop off at the store for anything. And the airport is across town, so it'll take a bit to get there.
"Okay." Sebastian sighs, nodding. "I'll see you later then?"
Chris smiles, leaning down to give Sebastian a quick kiss. "Get Anthony to call me if anything happens, okay?"
"I'm sure he'd call you without me having to ask him to, Chris." Sebastian says.
Of course Anthony would call him without having to be asked if anything happens. That's why he's one of their closest friends and they can trust him with almost anything. It's why Chris had asked Anthony to come over to keep an eye on Sebastian and the girls in the first place.
Though he would've called Scarlett and asked her if she could watch them, as he knows Sebastian is close with her - probably more than he is with Anthony - but if he remembers correctly, Scarlett is out of town for a photoshoot.
"Alright, now you just rest, and I'll be home later." Chris says. "I love you."
"I love you too, Chris." Sebastian says.
Chris nods, before he leaves the room, leaving Sebastian alone to get some rest.
He just hopes that nothing happens while he's out. He trusts Anthony enough to watch Sebastian and the girls, but he's worried that Sebastian might go into labor while he's gone.
And hopefully for all their sakes that doesn't happen....
******
"Uncle Anthony!" Taissa exclaims, as she opens the door for Anthony.
"Hey, kiddo." Anthony says, walking inside as Taissa shuts the door behind him. "Your dad already left?"
He didn't see Chris's car out front when he arrived, so he assumes that he's already left. Chris had told him on the phone that he might already be gone by the time he got there anyway, so he was expecting Chris to not be there.
"Yeah." Taissa nods. "He didn't say where he was going though." She frowns a little. "Mommy's asleep upstairs though."
Anthony's not really surprised to hear that Sebastian is asleep upstairs. The guy needs all the rest he can get right now. Pretty soon he won't have much sleep or any at all, not when there'll be two new babies in the house.
And because of that, Anthony feels as though he might be called over more often just to help out whenever he can. Which he doesn't mind of course. He'll do anything for Chris and Sebastian, even if it means being a free babysitter for them. And luckily the girls love it when he's around.
Though, Sabrina has a tendency to throw things at him....
"Where are your sisters?" Anthony asks, following Taissa into the living room.
"Watching TV." Taissa says.
Anthony nods as he sees Emma and Sabrina sitting in front of the TV watching My Little Pony with the dog fast asleep on the other side of the room. No signs of the cats though.
He's glad that the girls seem to be occupied with the TV for now. Later on he has no doubt that they'll want him to play some games with them. He doesn't mind doing that.
"Hey, girls." Anthony starts. "I'm just gonna go check on your mom."
The girls don't give him a reply, but he assumes they heard him. Either way, he's sure that they can guess where he's gone.
Making his way upstairs, he finds that the door to Sebastian's room is open a bit, which he assumes is so Sebastian can hear the girls easier if they need him for anything, or if the girls want to see their mother. He thinks anyway.
As he opens the door a little more, taking a few steps inside, he finds that Sebastian appears to be fast asleep. Which is good. The guy needs all the rest he can get right now, and he's not about to go in there and wake him up.
Instead, he's going to go back downstairs and watch the girls while Sebastian rests. Maybe make them something to eat soon if they're hungry. It's almost lunchtime, so he assumes the girls will be getting hungry. And he can bring some food up for Sebastian in a couple hours when he wakes. Sounds like the best plan of action.
So he exits the room as quietly as he can without waking Sebastian, and makes his way back downstairs to keep an eye on the girls.
******
"He's put me on fucking bedrest, Anthony!" Sebastian says, as Anthony walks into the bedroom with a plate of food. "And all I want to do right now is to stay out of bed."
"Seb, man. You're literally about to burst any day now. The best thing for you right now is to stay in bed." Anthony says, setting some food down on the bed next to Sebastian. "Hell, you could burst right now!" He stops. "And I sure as hell hope you don't burst right now. Not when Chris isn't here."
Sebastian shakes his head as he reaches for one of the sandwiches Anthony brought in.
He knows that Anthony is right with that. Even though the twins due date isn't until another three or so weeks, they could still come any day now. And he finds himself afraid of that. He's not sure if he's ready yet. As much as he wants them out already, he's not entirely sure if he's ready.
"So do I." He says, watching as Anthony takes a seat at the end of the bed. "You don't happen to know where it is that Chris went do you?"
Anthony shakes his head. "Ah, I can't tell ya, man." He says. "Chris would kick my ass if I told you."
Just as Sebastian had suspected. Anthony knows exactly where Chris went off to, but won't tell him. And he's likely not going to be getting a word out of Anthony about it.
"Great." He sighs, shaking his head. "Of course."
"Sorry man." Anthony apologizes. "I would tell you, but Chris would kill me."
Sebastian laughs a little. "It's okay." He says, brushing him off. "I have a few theories of what he's up to."
He has a feeling that he knows what Chris is up to, but he doesn't know for sure. At this point though, he finds himself not really caring all that much. He knows that whatever Chris is up to isn't anything bad. He knows Chris would never do anything to hurt him.
Although there may be a very small part of him that fears that Chris might be seeing someone else. He highly doubts it though. But it doesn't stop the small voice in his head saying what if?
"Well, all I can safely say is that it's nothing bad." Anthony says. "Chris has allowed me to say that much."
Sebastian nods, about to say something but stops as a jolt of pain runs through his stomach.
Anthony seems to notice this, and is quickly getting up and making his way to Sebastian's side.
"What is it?" He asks. "Is something wrong?"
He's not sure if it's nothing for not, but if it's what he thinks it is, then he's not sure if he knows what to do next. He just hopes it's not what he thinks it is....
Shaking his head, Sebastian looks up at him. "It's okay, Anthony." He says, rubbing a hand around his stomach as the twins start moving. "It's nothing."
Unfortunately, it's not nothing and Sebastian knows exactly what it is. He's going into labor. And he's not sure if he's really ready yet.
"Uh, Seb... you're not going into labor are you?" Anthony asks. "Please tell me you're not going into labor...."
"Uhm... okay." Sebastian says, but doesn't say anything more as another jolt of pain runs through his stomach, and he leans a little into Anthony.
Unfortunately for them both, he is.
"Oh, shit...." Anthony starts, grabbing his phone out of his pocket. "I gotta call Chris."
"Uh... yeah you do that. Please." Sebastian huffs as the pain begins to die down. "Fuck... why now?"
He really was hoping that he wouldn't go into labor today while Chris isn't home. But of course, the twins just have to come now. He had a bad feeling that they would, especially from the fact he had first started having contractions early this morning. But he had brushed those off as nothing as they hadn't come back. Until now....
Sebastian barely pays any attention to how Anthony is freaking out while calling Chris and telling him what's happening. He didn't think Anthony would freak this much, but then again, he supposes he should've guessed that he would. He's not entirely sure if Anthony has even been around anyone in labor.
"Alright..." Anthony starts. "Chris is gonna meet us at the hospital."
"Sounds good." Sebastian nods, going to get up, but Anthony stops him. "What are you doing?"
Anthony shakes his head. "You just stay there, and I'll go round up the girls and grab your overnight bag." He says. "You've got one packed, right?"
"Uh, no, not really." Sebastian shakes his head. "I started packing, but never really finished."
"Okay. You just sit tight, and I'll go pack one for you." Anthony nods. "What do you need packed?"
"Anthony, I can get a bag ready myself." Sebastian says. "The contractions aren't that bad yet. And I need to stretch my legs."
Anthony stares at him, unsure if he should let Sebastian pack his stuff himself, or make him stay put before they go.
He's trying not to freak out, and he's not sure what the hell to do. He's never been in this position before, and he's got no fucking clue what the hell to do except get Sebastian to the hospital.
"I don't know..." Anthony says, trying not to panic. "Just... just sit there, Seb. Please. I can get everything sorted."
Truthfully, he's not sure if he can. He's barely stopping himself from having a full blown panic attack.
Sighing, Sebastian moves around, pushing Anthony's arms off him as he gets up slowly. "Anthony." He starts, "Listen, you just go get the girls, and I'll take care of packing my overnight bag." He says. "If anything happens, I'll call for you, okay?"
He's doing his best to stay calm right now, mostly for Anthony's sake. He doesn't want the guy to freak out too much, as it seems as though he's trying not to.
Besides, this is his fourth time going through this. He knows what to do, and he'll be just fine. Although the other three times he wasn't carrying twins.... Despite that though, he knows what to do, and the contractions don't seem to be so bad yet. He'll be fine to get his overnight bag packed with everything he'll need.
And in fact, he thinks he might already have some of it packed. He did attempt to start putting everything together a couple days ago, but gave up after about half an hour because he was just too tired to do any packing.
Anthony hesitates, unsure if he should allow this, but sighs. "Fine." He says. "But if anything happens, you shout, okay?"
"I will." Sebastian nods, sitting back down as another contraction runs through him. "Just go. I'll be fine,."
"I'll be back up here just as soon as I've got the girls ready." Anthony says, before he's running out of the room and downstairs to get the girls ready.
Sebastian stays seated for a bit, watching as Anthony runs out of the room. He just hopes that Anthony doesn't end up falling down the stairs in his hurry....
Once he feels good enough to stand as the pain goes away, he grabs the bag at the foot of the bed and begins packing in everything that he thinks he'll need. Which is not so much stuff for himself except for a change of clothes, but more things that the twins will need once they're born.
As soon as he's packed everything that he needs out of his room and the twins nursery, he makes his way downstairs just as Anthony is making his way up.
"You all packed?" Anthony asks.
"Yeah." Sebastian says, stopping to lean against the wall as he gets another contraction. "Still need to get the twins car seats though."
"Alright I'll get those in a sec." Anthony says, as he takes the bag from him and wraps an arm around his waist, helping him downstairs to where the girls are sitting and waiting in the living room.
"You gonna put any shoes on?" Anthony asks.
Sebastian shakes his head. "Not that I can even reach to put them on anyway." He says. "I've packed some into the bag though."
"Alright." Anthony nods, before looking over towards Taissa. "Tai, go take your sisters out to the car." He says. "Your mom and I will be out in a minute."
As Taissa leads Emma and Sabrina outside to the car, Anthony turns to Sebastian. "Okay, where's the twins car seats?"
"In their nursery." Sebastian says, leaning against the wall next to him as Anthony moves away from him.
"Okay." Anthony nods. "Don't move."
"Not planning on it." Sebastian mutters, watching as Anthony runs up the stairs to retrieve the car seats.
He hisses in pain, rubbing a hand around his stomach as another contraction passes through him.
"Oh, god." He breathes, leaning his head back against the wall. "I can't wait until this is all over...."
