Chapter 27
"Girls, we need you to behave while your mother goes in for his appointment, okay?" Chris says, helping Emma out of her carseat before getting Sabrina out of hers.
Thankfully Sabrina has calmed down since her outburst regarding the pregnancy, but Chris worries that she's just going to start up again as soon as they're in with Sebastian's midwife. Because of that he had tried to talk Sebastian into getting Laura or Anthony to watch the girls for them, but he still seems set on taking the girls in with them.
"We'll be good, daddy." Emma says, before running off to Sebastian's side and grabbing his hand in hers.
Taissa on the other hand just nods, leaning against the car, looking rather bored about the whole situation. Chris isn't entirely sure if she's very happy about getting another younger sibling or not, but he's just glad she didn't react badly to it like Sabrina did. It seems that Emma is really the only one who's excited about having a new sibling.
"You all good, Seb?" Chris asks, locking up the car while carrying Sabrina in one arm.
Sebastian turns to look at him, smiling a little. "I'm fine, Chris." He says. "Just tired, but what's new?"
Chris notes that there seems to be something bothering him, but doesn't push it. He can already guess it's because of Sabrina's reaction to the pregnancy that's still bothering him. They did expect some sort of negative reaction about the pregnancy from Sabrina, but they weren't expecting her to react as badly as she had done.
"Well, once we're all done here, you can get some rest as soon as we get home." Chris assures him, before they're making their way into the building.
Sebastian breaks away from the others as soon as they're in the building and makes his way over to the receptionist. While he does that, Chris leads the girls over to the chairs and gets them to sit quietly while they wait.
He also rather hopes that they don't have to wait too long for Sebastian's midwife to come get them. He's not sure why, but he often feels a little uncomfortable in these places when they've got to wait for more than he'd like to.
That, and he usually always subconsciously catches a couple omegas and sometimes betas staring at him, even when it's obvious that he's here with his own omega. He doesn't do anything about it though, and he's unsure if Sebastian has ever noticed, if he has, he's never commented on it.
"Okay, my midwife should be out soon." Sebastian says, making his way over to Chris and the girls, taking a seat next to Chris.
Chris nods. "Hopefully she doesn't take too long."
Sebastian nods in agreement. He very much hopes that she won't take too long, as he very much wants to see how the baby is doing and what the gender is. Both he and Chris are hoping that they'll finally have a little boy, though maybe not twin boys like Emma seems to think it'll be. With their luck though, it's likely to be another girl. He really hopes it's a boy this time though.
Thankfully, not too much longer passes by the time Sebastian's midwife, Miss Elizabeth Olsen, comes out from down the hall calling for him. His midwife this time around isn't the same as his previous three pregnancies on the count of his former midwife taking a years absence.
Sebastian was a little uncertain of this new woman at first, but she's kinda grown on him, and she's very sweet too. The fact that she's also an omega much like himself makes it much easier for him to feel comfortable around her. She also happens to be a couple years younger than him, but she appears to know exactly what she's doing - which he is very glad about.
"Alright, Sebastian. You know the drill." Elizabeth says once they're in the exam room, instructing for Sebastian to get seated on the bed and lift his shirt up over his stomach like he's done plenty of times already.
Sebastian lays back on the bed as he waits for Elizabeth to get the ultrasound machine going so they can have a look and see how the little one is doing.
Though before Elizabeth gets the machine up and running, she turns o Chris and the girls. "These must be your older girls?" She asks, kneeling down in front of them. "What are your names?"
Both Taissa and Emma look up towards Chris, who nods at them, assuring them that it's okay.
"I'm Taissa, and that's Emma and Sabrina." Taissa says, indicating to herself and her two younger sisters standing next to her.
Elizabeth nods, smiling kindly at them. "Hey, I think I might have something for each of you if you promise to be good." She then looks up at Chris, then over at Sebastian. "It's okay if I give them a lollipop each, right?" She asks, wanting to get the parents permission before she gives the girls sweets.
Chris nods. "Yeah sure, that's okay."
Elizabeth nods, before getting up and making her way through the door on the other side of the room to her little office type room. It doesn't take her too long afterwards to return back into the room carrying a basket full of brightly colored lollipops.
"Here we go." She says, holding the basket out in front of the girls. "You can choose one lollipop each."
The girls each take a lollipop for themselves and thanking Elizabeth, before they sit down on the chairs near the bed that Sebastian is seated on. That should hopefully keep the three of them occupied for the time being.
Sebastian notices that Chris seems to be debating whether or not to grab a lollipop for himself, but he doesn't comment on it. Though it appears Chris has decided against taking one for himself as he sits down on one of the chairs next to the girls, before helping them take the wrapper off their lollipops.
As Elizabeth takes the basket back into her office, Sebastian gets more comfortable on the bed for Elizabeth to perform the ultrasound. Luckily it doesn't take her too long to come back into the room, and she gets to setting up the machine. Though, it seems to take a little longer than usual to get the machine up and running.
"Sorry, we seem to be having a little technical difficulties with this machine. It shouldn't be taking this long." Elizabeth frowns, as the machine doesn't seem to want to do what it's supposed to. "I don't know what's wrong with it. It was working just fine yesterday."
Sebastian sits up a little more on the bed as he waits for Elizabeth to get the machine ready. He hopes she's able to get it working soon, as he's very much interested in finding out how the baby is and what the gender is, and hopefully it's a little boy. Even though he'll love the baby regardless of what the gender is, he's very much hoping it's a boy. Whether the baby is an alpha, beta, or omega though, he doesn't care.
"So how've you been feeling, Sebastian?" Elizabeth asks, making conversation while she tries to get the machine working. "I know you've said that the nausea has been pretty rough to begin with."
"It's getting better." Sebastian says. Which is a little true, the morning sickness has started to calm down lately, but it's still very much present. Just, not as bad as it was to begin with. "Mostly I'm just too tired."
Elizabeth nods. "Well there's got to be some relief knowing that in a few months you'll have the little one here." She says, smiling as she looks over at him, then back to the machine.
Sebastian laughs a little, shaking his head. She's exactly right with that, and he can't wait till the little one is born. Though, there's the whole issue of how Sabrina will react once the baby is born, and judging by the way she reacted to the news of the pregnancy, she probably won't react well.
"Yeah." He says. "I can't wait. I just want the little one out already."
"I second that." Chris chimes in. He can't wait just as much as Sebastian for the baby to be born.
Though really it's not as much as Sebastian, seeing as though Chris isn't the one having to carry the baby inside of him for nine months. Chris isn't entirely sure if he could cope doing that, but fortunately for him (and probably unfortunately for Sebastian), he doesn't ever have to find out.
Eventually Elizabeth gets the machine working, and she's spreading the gel across Sebastian's stomach once he lays back down. She grabs the wand thing, moving it around on the gel on Sebastian's stomach before turning her attention to the screen of the machine.
"Okay, the baby looks all good." Elizabeth announces, as she twists the screen around a little for Sebastian and Chris to see it more. "Unfortunately, the baby doesn't seem to want to cooperate enough to be able to tell the gender, and this machine still seems to be acting a little glitchy so it's a little hard to tell, but it looks like it may be a little girl."
At the news that it may be yet another girl, both Sebastian and Chris feel a jab of disappointment, but they'll love her regardless. It's just that they were really hoping for a little boy. Though, there still may be the chance that it's a boy, Elizabeth didn't outright say that it's a girl, just that it looks like it may be a girl.
She goes to turn on the sound so they can hear the baby's heartbeat, but frowns as it doesn't seem to want to work. "The sound doesn't seem to be working right now, so unfortunately we cannot hear the baby's heartbeat." She apologizes. "I'll have to talk to someone later about getting this machine fixed." She adds more to herself than to Sebastian and Chris.
Sebastian finds himself disappointed at not being able to hear the baby's heartbeat, but there's always next time. He also doesn't blame Elizabeth for them not being able to hear it this time, it's not her fault that the machine doesn't seem to want to work properly today.
"That's okay." He assures her. "It's not your fault the machine isn't working properly."
"We only really care about finding out how the baby's doing anyway." Chris adds, though he would've liked to hear the baby's heartbeat today.
Elizabeth nods, going to say something, but she stops as she appears to have spotted something on the screen. "Wait...." She moves the wand around more to the right side of Sebastian's stomach, which catches both Sebastian and Chris's attention.
Sebastian looks over to Chris, before looking over at Elizabeth. "Is something wrong?" He asks, beginning to grow worried that something's wrong, but tries to mentally assure himself that it's probably nothing, and it may just be something in regards to the machine not working properly.
"No, nothing's wrong." Elizabeth shakes her head, before looking to Sebastian, and smiling. "You appear to be having not one, but two babies." She says. "I can't tell what their genders are though, but I think one appears to be a girl."
"T-twins?" Sebastian asks, his eyes widening. He's surprised to say the least, but he guesses that Emma was right on the twin part. Maybe the fact that the pregnancy started off pretty rough was because of the fact that he's having twins, which honestly now wouldn't surprise him. Though he doesn't really look as though he's carrying twins.
Elizabeth nods. "Yes. Though they appear to be a bit small, so I'd advise you to be careful, and I'd like you to come in again in a couple weeks so I can monitor their progress." She says. "I also want you to call me if you think something's wrong, even if it turns out to be nothing."
"I told you that it's twins, mommy!" Emma exclaims from where she sat on one of the chairs next to her father and sisters. "It's twin boys."
Sebastian smiles at her, she was right about the twin part, but not exactly right about the boy part. Though, they can't quite tell what the genders are, so there could still be the chance that she's right about it being boys, and he very much hopes that she is right.
He looks over at Chris to find him staring at the screen in shock. Sebastian doesn't blame him, he too is shocked that they're having twins. He wasn't expecting to be carrying two babies, not one! Though he's rather glad it's not three babies.
Elizabeth laughs a little at what Emma had said. "Well, the babies don't seem to want to cooperate so we can tell their gender, so it may be twin boys." She smiles.
Emma shakes her head, getting off the chair and making her way over to Elizabeth's side. "I know they're both boys." She says.
Both Sebastian and Chris aren't sure if she's just saying that they're both boys because she wants a brother, or if she really thinks that both babies are boys. Either way she seems pretty set on believing that they're both boys, and Sebastian just hopes that she ends up being right about that.
"Well let's hope you're right, and you'll be getting two little brothers in a few months time." Elizabeth tells her.
Emma nods at that, before she's looking around at the machine in interest. "What does this do?" She asks.
While Elizabeth explains to Emma what the machine does, Sebastian looks over to Chris, who hasn't said a word about the fact they're having twins.
"Chris, you okay?" He asks, catching Chris's attention.
Chris pulls his gaze away from the screen of the machine to look at Sebastian. "I-I'm fine." He says, quite in shock over the fact that they're having twins.
Now this definitely makes him feel bad about not being home when Sebastian first found out about the pregnancy, and he guesses that it would explain why the pregnancy has been quite rough on Sebastian thus far. "Just... my god, two babies at once?" He asks. "How're we going to cope?"
The two of them have no idea how they're going to cope with the fact that they're having twins, especially with the fact that Sabrina is only a year old, and isn't exactly happy about the fact that her mother is pregnant. They still need to talk with her and try and get her to understand that everything's okay, and that this is a good thing though. Unfortunately, they're not too sure how well that's going to go down.
It's just a good thing that Sabrina hasn't started to act up right now. Bless Elizabeth for giving the girls a lollipop each to keep them occupied.
"I'm sure we'll be fine." Sebastian says, trying to assure himself just as much as Chris that they'll be fine. "We've still got Laura to babysit the girls for us whenever we need her to." He reminds him. "And there's always Anthony, and Scarlett if they're not too busy. Also there's the fact that Tai has school and Emma has preschool during the weekdays, so I'm sure we'll be able to manage."
He has to admit though, he's not too sure how the cats and Dodger will react towards two new babies in the house in a few months. Though, the cats usually keep to themselves and Muffy and Sooty usually stay outside now most of the time, and Nala mostly hiding out in one of her many hiding spots in the house, so they should be okay. Really it's just Dodger that they're not so sure about, but hopefully that energetic doofus of a dog will be fine.
But now that they know that they're having twins, they're going to have to buy double of everything, and get to thinking about two names, not one. Unfortunately they don't know the genders yet though, which does make buying stuff a little difficult, but hopefully by Sebastian's next appointment they'll have found out the genders of the babies.
For now though, they're going to have to figure out how they're going to get Sabrina to understand that the pregnancy and new babies are a good thing for them all.
Only... how are you supposed to make a one year old understand that what's happening is a good thing for them all, and not a bad thing?
