Ellie only heard a constant beep in her ears. That was all. That was all she heard as she stared at Joel opposite of her. “Joel?…” she weakly whispered, scared. Because he was completely bloodied. Because he looked dead.

Because he was dead.

“Joel” Ellie cried, missing the boot that went for her head just before darkness overcame her.

Ellie stared at the blue in front of her. It was all so blue.

Blue water. Blue sky. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue.

She breathed heavily before a sob escaped her. She missed Joel. She missed Joel so fucking much.

Abby was going to die. And hopefully it was the last thing she would do.

Ellie blinked. Oh. It was already night. Huh. Well, by now she could walk through the night. There´s no one stopping her, after all. No Dina. No Tommy. No Riley.

No Joel.

Ellie looked at the dagger in her hand. She killed so many people and so many Clickers with it… She could kill one more, right? She just needed to turn it around, and she would be history.

She would only be a memory. Like Joel.

In the next morning she put the dagger back into her bag. She still needed to get to Abby.

“Ellie! Ellie, help me!” Was all that ran through the darkness. It was Joel screaming. Why was it Joel screaming? She was at the Slope. Oh god, she was at the Slope. She needed to go down the stairs.

Since when were they so long? They weren´t actually this long, right? Or were they?

Why was the door locked? It shouldn´t be locked! “No! Joel!” She screamed, when the sound of a skull cracking filled the air and Ellie woke up with a gasp.

It was just another nightmare. Just another nightmare.

But at the same time, it was reality.

She knew Joel would be stronger. Of course he would. He survived his real daughter dying. She was just someone he imagined as his daughter, after all. She should be dead. Not Joel.

Because Joel? Joel wouldn´t ruin himself as much as she did.

“I didn´t kill her” Ellie whispered into the dead of the night. Hoping Joel would hear her somewhere. “It would only… It would only be a cycle then, wouldn´t it?” She asked, closing her eyes as she laid down onto her back. “I was idiotic for thinking this would do anything…” she whispered to herself, opening her eyes.

And she could swear she saw Joel smile above her.

***

Ellie pulled out her gun as she heard footsteps behind her. There was silence, and Ellie knew it was a human. “Come out!” She called, her eyes narrowing. And slowly steps came closer. “And don´t try anything” she added, and a chuckle came from the trees.

Ellie´s eyes widened.

“Dina?” she whispered, and the other woman stepped out, a young boy holding her hand. “Ellie” she greeted, and Ellie put her gun away, her eyes not leaving Dina. “You alright?” she finally managed to ask, and Dina nodded walking right in front of her. “Did you get what you were looking for?” she asked, and Ellie went quiet. “Revenge?” Dina continued, but not unkind.

Ellie shook her head. “It wasn´t revenge” she whispered, and Dina smiled. “I know”
