Everett Ross x reader x Tony Stark

You were hurrying down the hall when you saw him in person for the first time. The sight of him made you stop dead in your tracks. Tony Stark...the one and only Tony Stark...Iron Man himself, in the flesh, was standing only a few yards away from you.

“My god, does he look handsome in person,” you thought to yourself.

He was wearing a white button-up shirt underneath a black vest that complimented his dark hair beautifully. His red tie was slightly loosened like he’d been messing with it out of frustration. The mental image of grabbing it and pulling him into a kiss seemed to form right in front of your eyes. You were vaguely aware of your tongue tracing its way along your bottom lip of its own free will.

“If you’re quite done, we have work to do,” you heard your deputy chief and private-life boyfriend say from somewhere behind you.

Damn it. Totally busted.

“Yes, sir.”

———————————————

Tony was lounging in his office at the Avengers training facility pretending to handle paperwork and slowly working on a glass of scotch when the feminine voice of JARVIS’s replacement drifted into the room.

“Sir, there are a couple of CIA agents requesting a moment of your time.”

“Identify them for me, will you, FRIDAY?”

“Agent Everett Ross—“

“The hobbity-looking guy from Germany. I remember him.”

“And Agent Y/N.”

“I don’t know that name. Show me security footage.”

On the desk in front of him, out of thin air, appeared a 3D image of the two agents waiting for him.

“Oh, I remember her now...the cute one. This’ll be fun. Tell them I’ll be right there.”

———————————————-

“I shouldn’t have brought you along for this,” Everett said as he paced back and forth restlessly.

“And miss the chance to actually meet Tony Stark, not on your life.”

“Because the last time you saw him wasn’t a complete embarrassment. As I recall, we had to call the janitor to mop up all your drool off the floor.”

“Ev, are you jealous?”

“Ha! Why would I be jealous of him? Just because he’s a billionaire superhero with a reputation for being a playboy.”

“And a genius...a brave, funny, charming, handsome—“

You stopped and cleared your throat awkwardly when you noticed the highly annoyed glare Everett was giving you.

“Sorry to keep you waiting,” a voice on the other side of the room spoke.

There was ‘the’ Tony Stark sauntering across the floor. He was dressed down today, wearing a t-shirt and a pair of slightly tight-fitting jeans that probably cost more than your car payment, but damn were they worth the money for how they hugged his—

“It’s fine,” Everett said beside you, interrupting your thoughts, “it’s nice to see you again, Mr. Stark.”

“Have we met before?” Stark asked.

“Yes, we have. It was in Germany when we apprehended Barnes.”

“Yeah, I remember all that. Your face just isn’t ringing any bells though. But yours is,” he added, pointing his finger at you playfully before offering you his hand.

“It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. Stark,” you said, taking his hand to shake it. In the blink of an eye, he flipped it over and raised it until the back of it was almost up to his lips.

“Please, call me Tony.” Then he closed the distance between his mouth and your hand and kissed your knuckles ever so gently causing a tiny giggle to escape against your will.

Stark looked at you with a surprised but terribly pleased expression on his face. You didn’t have to glance at Everett to know he was glaring at the scene in front of him.

“I didn’t know government agents were allowed to giggle,” Stark said, “but you should do it more often. That was adorable. Well, you should. It would be weird if he did,” he motioned with his head in Everett’s direction. “Please, sit down.”

He guided you over to the nearest couch and, as soon as you sat down, planted himself on the cushion next to you, leaving Everett to sit on a chair several feet away.

“What can I do for you?” he asked, smiling at you cheerfully.

“We’re here to see if you’ve heard from any of your former Avengers since their disappearance,” Everett said quickly, as if trying to beat you to it.

Without looking in Ross’s direction, Tony replied, “Cap wrote me a letter awhile back, which is totally like him, all old-school about everything, but that’s it.”

“What did he say? Anything that would give any clues as to his location?” Everett asked.

“No, nothing like that. Wanted to apologize for how he handled things with Barnes. Hoped I was doing alright. Mostly seemed like he was trying to salvage our friendship. I forgave him.”

“That was very big of you, considering everything that happened,” you said.

“That’s just the kind of guy I am.”

You heard what sounded like a groan of agony come from Everett’s direction.

“Did you say something?” Tony asked, finally turning his attention to Ross.

Everett put on that forced smile you knew so well, the one that was usually reserved for idiots and people he wanted to shoot, before saying no.

“Well,” he added, standing up, “since you don’t know anything, I can’t see any reason to keep taking up your time. Come on, y/n.”

“Oh, y/n, that’s a pretty name,” Tony said with a grin. “I should probably get your card just in case I hear from any of them, then I could give you a call to update you...or to date you...either way.”

In a flash, Everett’s card was in between yours and Tony’s faces. Tony looked up at him with a smirk that said he was enjoying this game way too much.

“Let’s go, y/n.”

“Goodbye, Tony,” you said before getting up and walking out the door with Everett close behind you.

“Can you believe that guy?” he asked once you were outside. “He just never turns it off, does he?”

“You were jealous,” you said playfully, sliding up and sneaking your arms around him. He simply snorted in reply and didn’t look at you.

“Oh, don’t be mad,” you said, nuzzling your face in his neck. “So I’ve always had a little crush on Iron Man, so what? I love you, and I don’t want anybody else.”

Leaning back to look at you, he asked, “You mean that?”

“Of course I do. Now come on, let’s get out of here.”

He gave you a quick kiss on the lips and then walked around to the driver’s side of the car. Before you turned to open the door to the passenger seat, you noticed Stark leaning in the doorway waving at you and giving you a little wink.

In a whisper so that Everett wouldn’t hear you, you said to yourself, “Of course, it doesn’t hurt to daydream.”
