Chapter 20
"Shannon, it's Inspector Nicholson."
"Don't come any closer."
"I won't."
"I have already told you, I'm not talking to anyone except my Serena. Where is she anyway?" Serena took a deep breath before talking.
"I'm here. And I'm not you're Serena. Not anymore." Serena said nervously as she saw Shannon.
"There you are. Hello gorgeous." Shannon smiled.
"Suddenly you're calling me gorgeous. I think I can count on one hand the amount of time's you have called me that."
"What are you talking about? I was always telling you how gorgeous and sexy you were."
"How can you stand there and tell a bare faced lie." Serena snapped as she walked a bit closer but Inspector Nicholson grabbed her arm to stop her going any further. "You know full well what you did to me. And what you used to call me."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"You know what I'm talking about."
"All I ever did was love you."
"No you didn't. You don't even know what the word love means."
"I LOVE YOU." Shannon shouted.
"NO. I LOVED YOU." Serena shouted back. "I was just someone who you could bully and treat like shit."
"Just give me another chance. You're all I want, Serena."
"Trust me, the last person I want to be with is you."
"We can try again, Serena. Move away, make a fresh start."
"I wouldn't go anywhere with you. Besides the only place you're going is prison. That's the only reason I'm here. I want to see you get what you deserve.``
"Not If I jump."
You haven't got the guts to jump. Do you know what I've realised about you Shannon?"
"No but I have a feeling you're going to tell me."
"You're a bully. And you treat all your girlfriends like shit. Because you know that they are all too good for you. So you made us all feel like shit about ourselves so you feel good about yourself.”
“That's not true.”
“Yes it is. I'm going now.”
“Don't go. I'll jump if you do.”
“Do what you want, Shannon. I couldn't care less.” Serena said as she walked away straight into Bernie's arms.
“Are you alright?” Bernie asked as she hugged Serena.
“Will you just take me home please?”
“Of course I can.” Bernie Held Serena's hand as they walked to her car. Bernie drove them back to Serena's in complete silence. All Serena did on the way was look out of the window.
“Here we are home sweet home.” Bernie smiled as she pulled up outside Serena's house. “Serena, are you sure you're OK?”
“You are going to come in with me aren't you?”
“Of course I will.”
“Thank you.” Serena smiled as they both got out of the car and went inside Serena's.
“Sit yourself down sweetheart and I'll put the kettle on.”
“Thank you for coming with me today.” Serena said as Bernie put down the drinks and down beside Serena.
“I didn't really do anything. You were the brave one.”
“You were there that's the main thing. I couldn't have done it without you being there.”
“Yes you could. You're braver than what you think,baby.” Bernie smiled as she stroked Serena's face softly.
“I love you Bernie.”
“I love you. You are the best thing that's ever happened to me.”
“Let's go to bed.”
“At 1.00 in the afternoon.”
“Yes Bernie. I want us to make love to each other.”
“Are you sure? I mean you have had a tough day so far.”
“And I want it to end better. I want you.” Serena smiled as she leaned over and kissed Bernie. “Are you coming to bed or what?” Serena smiled as she stood and held her out to Bernie.
“I certainly am beautiful.” They held hands as they walked to the stairs. “SERENA.”They heard as they were halfway up the stairs.
