Chapter 19
“Why is she asking for me?" Serena asked nervously.
"God knows. I've told Dom that you're not going anyway."
"But what if she jumps because I don't go?"
"Serena most people who say they are gonna jump have no intention of jumping."
"But some do Bernie. I know I have done funerals for them. What if Shannon does jump, I will never get the chance to tell exactly what I think about her."
"Do you still love her? Is that why you want to go?"
"Do I heck. I want to make sure she pays for what she did to me and her girlfriend who's in hospital and god knows who else she has hurt. "
"And what about your Dad? I have just promised him that I would keep Shannon away from you."
"Don't worry about Dad. Bernie I want to see Shannon get whatever punishment is coming to her. And so will Dad. But I can't do it on my own. I need you by my side. Will you please come with me?"
"Of course I will."
"Thank you. I love you." Serena said as she held Bernie tightly.
"I love you too."
Serena and Bernie drove to the hospital in silence. As they got there they saw all the people that had gathered to have a look at what was happening..
"Are you ok?" Bernie asked as she held Serena's hand.
"My stomach is churning.I feel as sick as a donkey."
"You don't have to do this. I can turn the car around and take you home."
"No, I want to do this. I need to do this. Even though I am more scared then I have ever been in my life. I am not going to let her see that I am scared. I have to do this Bernie. I want to be brave. But I can only do this with you by my side."
"I'm not going anywhere."
"Promise."
"I promise." Bernie squeezed Serena's hand before they both got out of the car. When they got out of the car Bernie immediately held Serena's hand as they walked to the hospital entrance.
"Bernie I thought you said you weren't coming" Dom said as her and Serena walked onto AAU.
"Serena wanted to come. Serena, this is one of my best friends Dom. Dom this beautiful woman is my girlfriend Serena."
"Very nice to meet you." Dom said as he held out his hand.
"You too."
"I've heard a lot about you."
"All good I hope."
"Definitely all good." Dom said as Bernie gently squeezed Serena's hand.
“I take it she’s still on the roof?”
“Yes. Come on, I'll take you up and you can talk to the copper in charge.” Dom said as they followed him up to the roof. "Wait here a minute."Dom walked over to a stern looking man. They chatted for a minute before they both walked over to Bernie and Serena.
"I'm inspector Nicholson.Thank you for coming." He said as he held his hand out to Serena."From what Shannon has been saying, is that your ex-girlfriend right?"
"Yes, that's right."
"Did Shannon ever hit you?"
"No. She, wounded with words instead."
"Shannon was very controlling with Serena." Bernie said.
"And you are?"
"I'm Serena's girlfriend Bernie Wolfe. I am also a Dr downstairs on AAU."
"You'll have to stay down here."
"NO" Serena shouted "If Bernie can't come up with me then I am going home."
“Ok. before we go up you mustn’t get too close to Shannon.”
“I won’t.”
“And if she gets too close to you then we deal with it.”
“Not if I get there first.” Bernie said as she squeezed Serena’s hand.
“I’ll pretend I didn't hear that. Are you ready Serena?”
“As ready as I'll ever be.”
“Serena, Are you sure you want to do this?” Bernie asked.
“I have to.”
“No you don't, baby. We can go back to the car and I'll take you home.”
"If I don't confront her now. I will be scared of her for the rest of my life. And I don't want that. I want to make sure she never hurts me or anybody else ever again." Serena kissed Bernie softly as they followed the inspector up to the roof.
